B3, Chapter 38: An Unexpected Crisis

Chaos began with a blast, as chaos often does. At one moment, the students were participating in the class activity, attempting with all they have, to come up on top of their class.

But the next moment, a fearsome howl announced the start of an unbelievable display savageness that few had seen in their life.

The dreadful sound caused everyone to freeze unwillingly, caused by a terror that felt as though an apex predator had locked its eyes on them.

The few with stronger vitality, those from the Snowdrifts, broke out from the chains of this instinctual fear. Despite their alarm, they were more anxious about their brother’s condition.

In his berserk state, knocking Tommy unconscious will be almost impossible, and none of them can stop him without severely wounding him, yet if they do not try, it would be worse to let him continue.

With his strength unfolding like a majestic wave, a powerful force rocked the entire arena with Tommy at the centre. Snow started falling from above them. The first signs of a violent blizzard that brewed.

His power started rising abnormally, from his original rank at Entry B, it shot up to Peak A rank in the blink of an eye.

Then, to the horror of those observing, it did not stop.

Instead, it picked up speed and raised, far faster than anyone’s anticipation. He had a horrific aura that made even Kairos and the boys turn pale with fright. Only when he reached Entry S rank did that unbounded power stop increasing.

But at that moment, he rushed forward towards the Wurm with death in his eyes.

He has become the harbinger of destruction and desolation.

With a single palm strike, he pounded his far larger opponent into the air. It flew up like an arrow, but before it could lift off above their heads and disappear into the horizon, Tommy leapt after it.

Spinning in mid-air, he sent it flying with a side kick. The massive Wurm shot off faster than a cannonball, and the other beasts and tamers that were unfortunate to be behind it were knocked away.

It was a perfect execution of force, achieved by his countless practice. The burst of speed when he lifted himself off the ground, the twisting of his body and the timing of his kick were all flawless, despite his apparent insanity. It was a beautiful move despite the savageness.

The academy’s staff flew into action, saving those who were struck, but they could not prevent a path of crimson blood to be drawn by the draconic serpent’s flight path.

On the other side, the enraged white kitten had badly mauled the Blue Wolf. The latter whimpered as it desperately tried to scurry away from its assaulter.

The furry kitty hissed ferociously, its small figure betraying the power hidden underneath its appearance.

It took the collective strength of several tamers and their beasts to get the cat off the wolf. No one, not even the kitten itself, knew the reason for this unearthly rage.

It could feel its blood burning like lava. The blood feud of their race ran deep within the young cat’s inherited bloodline memories, and it drove it towards vengeance. Despite not knowing the actual cause, it felt a fierce indignant to ensure those with Hati’s blood must not breathe a second more.

Although it is well-known that the feline and the canines beasts are often at each other’s’ throats, there were hardly any reported cases of tamed creatures that went out of control like this. But that was only because of the low purity of blood in the land of Gaia.

With the cat’s emotion strong enough to cause the tamer to go berserk, Tommy screamed with unstoppable bloodlust. They all felt the violent presence of a warrior god that had descended from the heavens to stand among them. It was so domineering that it caused their knees to buckle.

However, with his Origin Infusion technique, Tommy could only safely reach Peak A cultivation at best, any further would bring him great harm.

Unlike the forbidden arts used to increase one’s strength in exchange for shortening one’s life span, the Origin Infusion technique uses the life force to empower the user. Though it is much safer than the prior, by overloading the amount of power brought forth, the user’s flesh would be unable to sustain under pressure. In the worst case, he would die in an explosion of blood if they can’t stop him in time.

The guys prepared to pounce on their buddy and stop him. Besides the four of them, no one else could restrain him.

Even the instructor and the staffs present are weaker in cultivation than Tommy at this moment. And quite a few students that are nearby started suffocating from the force he is releasing; most were knocked unconscious just by the aura of an enraged S ranker.

The threatening vibe in the air increased by the moment. Most contract beasts started protecting their partners using their natural gifts. After forming a bond with the humans, if either side were killed, the other party’s soul would be irreversibly damaged.

Everyone was tensed. If Tommy started attacking, it would become a slaughter. Only those with powerful life-protecting treasures may survive, but even then they would no doubt be shaved off an inch of their skin in the process.

Then, as if an invisible wall appeared to shield everyone, the intense atmosphere seemed to ease.

At first, they thought that one of the higher ranking cultivators had created a Ki shield to shelter the others, but, those that were quick-witted realised that it is impossible for any of them here to do something like that in such large scale.

It took them an extra moment to notice that nearby, a tiny hedgehog started counteracting the overwhelming force in the air.

To protect its master, Luciette, the Death Thorn summoned a ring of spikes around Tommy. They quickly appeared from underground, pointing towards the centre, and immediately the soil around the thorns began to fester with decay.

When the crushing pressure of an S ranker came near the spikes, it quickly degenerated.

“I... it’s the Rule of Entropy? Is that the Death Thorn?!” A few knowledgeable staffs exclaimed. Unlike, Lalhal who had personally marked every creature brought back from the mountain, they were sorely uninformed.

However, they had worked for the Beast Taming department for long enough to know of the elusive Death Thorn that is protected within a nest of Life Vines. Since the plant demon had been tamed, they had suspected that its counterpart has also appeared. But, rodent-like creatures are as common as grass, and those with spikes could be found by the wagon-load. Because no one had seen one before, and even old records did not write much about this peaceful species, they could not be sure.

The Death Thorn, however, had a unique ability to decay and deteriorate its target.

However, although the oppressive power had been cordoned off, in the middle of the Circle of Entropy, Tommy’s cultivation started to rise again, pushing towards Mid S Rank.

The Snowdrifts ran forward at this moment, each of them equipped with a Sealing Stone in hand. They had acted as swiftly as they could, but everything had happened too quickly.

Before they could reach his side, Tommy suddenly coughed out a large mouthful of blood, then his eyes rolled back and fell with a great thump.

Before he could break through to Mid S Rank, his body had broken down first.

The gang reached him a moment too late. Their faces filled with gravity.

They placed their hands on their brother for a second, scanning the cause with their Soul Perception then as one they started to send their Life Force to Tommy.

What they saw in his body was a terrible mess. He had a stout physique that fortunately allowed him to survive the violent overload, but there’s no doubt that his body was completely destroyed from the inside. The organs had ruptured, and the blood vessels had torn. More critically, his meridian system…

Their faces paled as a pregnant second passed without words, then Kairos was the first to withdraw his aid. He turned, and suddenly in his hands is a metal brush which he used to draw a complex symbol around them.

Alan was the next person to take his hands off, and he took out the three treasured plants for Ki recovery. The Silverthorn Weed, Goldbristle Grass and Platinum Flowers.

After a while, Edward stopped, and he prepared healing salve and medical pills for his brother.

Then, last, but not least of them, Jim took out the Yggdrasil fruit and began mashing it into a pulp.

When each person is done with their task, they returned to transfer Life Force in a steady stream to their wounded friend.

Though they acted in public, none could tell the difference between life energy and Ki transference, instead, the others cannot believe just how calm and organised the four reacted in the confusion.

Their speed is far ahead of any professional medics stationed in the class. By the time the academy’s staffs came close with their medical kits, Kairos is already about to finish the healing Stratagem he was drawing.

The internal damage that Tommy sustained in that short time was too serious. The backlash of overloading Origin Infusion is far more dangerous than they had imagined.

Every nerve in his body had burnt out, like candle wicks that were used.

It is a rare symptom, but definitely fatal if not for their quick response.

“Not good,” Kairos whispered to his brothers.

“What’s wrong?” Edward asked. They had seen worse when they saved Jones and Alan in the past. Tommy’s case, though severe, still pales in comparison.

“His physical strength at Man Rank Heaven Grade could not hold the power of a Mid S ranker, so the first thing that happened was his Ki circuits completely burning out. The damage had been too severe and it was made much worse over the time lapse.”

Almost all S rankers are at Beast Ranked physical strength, while only a rare few like Jones and Kairos have attained the Titan Rank.

When one cultivates, the person’s body will naturally prepare itself to be able to handle stronger energy. Only those that rush in their training too much will face a similar problem, but they cannot be compared with the devastating recoil that Tommy experienced.

Kairos continued, “Saving him isn’t the issue. The damage his meridian system had sustained did not heal correctly. We can’t reverse this, and at this rate, he will lose all his cultivation.”

The others had their eyes widen in shock, and they quickly sent a strand of Soul Perception to check, but the result was just as Kairos mentioned.

Jones had the legendary Asura Constitution that enabled him not only to heal old wounds back properly but even upgraded his aptitude while Alan’s meridian system was unharmed despite his grievous injuries at that time.

Though Tommy is in a much better state than either of them, he risks becoming a handicap in cultivating.

Those that are unable to cultivate will be treated like trash in Saint Empire. There is no doubt how crushing this news will be to Tommy when he wakes.
