Chapter 44: True Holy Dragon

Chapter 44: True Holy Dragon

Kairos held his weapon lightly in his hands, his body relaxed but filled with energy. His eyes turn serious as he glared piercingly at the Orcs before him, looking for a way through. However, he quickly comes to realise that all his routes are blocked, even the new ones he created has been filled up with new enemies. It is as though they could read his path and move ahead of him.

The worse thing is, they are all too strong for him to breakthrough.

As he was panicking from landing himself in this mess, a fleeting cry from something non-human suddenly resonated to his soul.

“What was that?!”

Soon after that unidentified sound, a bright glow started shining somewhere from below his eyes pulled his attention, and Kairos together with the Orcs looked downwards in unison.

He saw a spherical rune unlike anything he had seen before at the back of his right hand, and he started studying it out of curiously. But, unlike his calm composure, the Orcs growled in panic, shuffling backwards in fear.

This is the first time he ever saw the Orcs afraid, and it caused him to be alarmed. The runic symbol did not give off any strand of energy, but no doubt it is something of unimaginable power.

Before he could determine its effect, a sudden pain shot through his head, and his mind went blank.

The intricate, yet beautiful runic symbol cracked then shattered, disappearing into the night air.

The Orcs looked back up at Kairos in shock. His eyes are now glowing golden, absolutely divine against the dark forest.

*Do not interfere*

A voice resonated throughout the dark forest. It obviously belongs to Kairos, yet there are no movements on his lips.

It is a light and gentle tone of voice, yet the very magnitude of authority behind it had caused not just the Orcs but every living being nearby to be in deference. At this moment, it was as though the entire world was subdued, that not even the sound of a single cricket nor the whisper of the wind could be heard.

“My apologies my Lord.”

A feminine voice replied, and at the same time, all the trees and plants around him seem to bend towards him trembling in awe and fear. It felt as if nature herself apologised, remorseful at planting the unknown rune on Kairos’ hand.

As if in acknowledgement, the glow in his eyes flickered and then disappeared, reverting to the black colour his eyes were before.

Kairos saw the Orcs prostrated towards him in submission, and refused to come closer. He looked in stunned confusion, and somehow, felt a tinge upset, disappointed at the easy way out.

He catches himself. He is not a person who longed for battles to have such emotions.

“Isn't it a good thing that they are no longer aggressive?”

He walked back to camp untouched, even when he came closer to the Orcs, they would give way to him. In just a few minutes, he returned, completely stumped.

A ghostly projection of the Orc King, almost undetectable, appeared on a tree nearby watching Kairos as he departed from the forest.

.....

Back in the camp, under the orange glow of the torches hanged on the timber walls, a silence loomed as the others went about their guard duty without knowing what had happened tonight.

Kairos strolled towards the war tent without pause, but Alan intercepted him midway.

"Captain, I was worried."

Stolen novel; please report.

"Hmm? You realised I left?"

"You still dare to ask?! Well, since you’re back, I guess it’s okay,” Alan sighed, dismissing his previous concerns, then he continued saying, “It wasn't that I actually noticed that you had gone off, but coincidentally you weren't there when I went looking for you. Just where did you go, captain?"

"I… uhh… went to talk to the Orcs..."

"What? Are you kidding me? You went out of camp to TALK to magical beasts?! ...By the way, how you did that without any of us knowing?"

Kairos ignored how his friend recovered from the shock and moved on like nothing happen before one sentence even finished. He had plenty of time to get used to Alan's easy-going nature, but he couldn't help rolling his eyes.

"I simply avoided the places where you sent you Soul Perceptions… Hold on, I’ve found something important, let's discuss this in the war tent. Is there someone to replace you on guard duty?"

"Yep, Edward took over. Let's go!"

In the war tent, Snow and gang are still there pouring over the map of the training grounds and studying on possible upgrades they can do to George's camp.

"There are very few upgrades that we can do with the Orcs being so close to our doorstep," Kairos says the moment he walked in.

"SIR!"

He gestured for them to be at ease with a sigh. It's getting on his nerves that they are such a stickler for the rules, but there is no doubt that each of them is brilliant.

"I come with news. The Orcs have a new King," He announced, almost nonchalantly.

“WHAAAAAAAAAAT?!”

A great cry arose from everyone, including Alan who walked in behind Kairos.

"Huh, what’s wrong?!"

This time, he was the one shocked, wondering why there was such a great reaction over what he said.

"HUUUUHHHH?" their exclamations went up in both volume and pitch, “How could you stay so calm? The Orc King is an incredible legendary being!”

"My goodness!"

"If it's true, we're doomed!"

"Wait, are you certain? How did you find out?"

"Yeah tell us!"

"Whoa, calm down. I just snuck into the forest and met it face to face. But, since I came back unscathed, so there’s nothing to worry, okay?"

"WHAT? Are you like five years old? Why would you go into the enemy territory alone!? You're our commander!”

“I... I can't take it anymore... Snow scold him!" Leaf says, leaning against the table as she rubbed her temples with her hand.

"I... I can't even... what do you want me to say... to... to this... Simply unbelievable!"

*SQWARKKK!*

The uproar died down when what sounded like an angry cry from a small animal pop up out of nowhere. Everyone in the tent looked around searching for the source until they spotted a beautiful gleaming white creature that rubbed its tiny head with a paw right behind of Kairos' feet.

"What's that?" Kairos asked.

"Huh? You're the one it's following, and you ask us?"

*Sqwark!!*

It cries out angrily again as if it was upset at those who raised their voices at Kairos.

"Maybe it followed me out from the forest?"

Snow crouched next to the tiny thing for a look but otherwise did not dare to touch it. After a while, she stood back up and silently pulled out a thick record of beasts in a manuscript and started flipping its pages.

"Dra...gon.. hmmm," She mumbles, "Here!"

She put the large tome down and pointed at an artfully drawn picture of a white dragon and then indicated at the small white animal that is peeping at them from behind Kairos.

Name: Holy Primordial Dragon

Ancient Dragon. An embodiment of natural Laws. Also known as one of the progenitor of True Dragons, Ancestors of Dragons, Holy Dragon Lord. Last seen - Unknown. Other information - Unknown.

"W...whaaat's this? Holy primordial dragon?"

"But… what's a dragon doing on the training ground?" Kairos asked.

"That's your concern commander? Don't you know that these beings are incredible?"

"Really? But it looks so cute," Kairos says as he slowly moves his hand towards the dragon. Seeing his gesture, it moved closer and happily rubbed its snout against his palm.

"D..dodododoo....do You even know what's a primordial dragon?" Leaf grabs Kairos' hands and says, her face flushed red with panic and awe.

"Nope?" Kairos shakes his head. Behind him, Alan is also shaking his head.

There will be something wrong if these two know such a mythical being when they did not even know about common things like basic Ki training.

Snow rolled her eyes, took a deep breath, and took over, "I'll explain. Dragons are considered the leaders of the divine beasts. Their might and status are only equalled by very few others like the black phoenix, or the fire-eyed stone monkey.

In our land, we no longer have any d Dragons around, only the mixed races like wyverns, wyrms and serpents. Therefore, we were all surprised when Kairos brought one back.

Not only so, wild dragons are incredibly dangerous and as powerful as they are wise, therefore traditionally there are only two ways to obtain one.

The normal way is to find one from an egg and have it hatch for you.

And the second method is to have one choose you as its master.

However, unlike dragons, the primordial dragon race are not hatched, and since they are much more powerful than usual dragons, they prove much harder to obtain from being chosen. Therefore it is incredibly difficult to have a divine beast like this follow you!"

"How do primordial dragons come about if they're not hatched then?" Alan asked.

"Stupid, it must be from natural birth then!" Kairos says by guessing.

"No… They actually willed themselves into existence," Leaf says, quietly shaking her head.

Seeing the shock on two of their faces, Snow laughed. They have not even reached the shocking part of the explanation.

"Legend says that the primordial dragons are actually a part of nature's laws and exist before time itself.

When they gain awareness of themselves, they can think themselves into existence.

Technically a primordial dragon cannot be destroyed. Even shattering them into pieces they can recreate themselves with nearly no effort at all.

They are more like a powerful force of energy than actual living organisms but somehow are still able to reproduce.”

"Ancestor Dragons? Natural's laws? And, able to recreate its own body? Ow, my poor head," Alan said looking stumped.

Seeing the cute and gentle white thing nearby, he couldn't help moving his hand towards the small dragon to check if it is real.

*Chomps*

"OWW!"

"Don't even try. If it followed him, then only he can touch it. " Snow says

"Hey, shouldn't you tell me that beforehand? And, if it's an ancient dragon that exists before time, how come it's this tiny?"

"I guess, it probably willed itself into existence recently, but since the tome has a record of it, our ancestors should have known it long ago. So, I'm not sure why either."

"The little one is one of the earliest primordial dragons that willed itself into existence, but after it was destroyed it had slumbered to await my arrival," Kairos explained.

"What did you say?"

Suddenly, Kairos shook his head, and he looked at everyone staring at him.

"Huh? Did I say something?"

"You did! ..... You said the dragon was waiting for you!"

"I said that?" He scratched his head confusedly. Lots of weird things are happening today.
