B5, Chapter 43: Three Strangers

B5, Chapter 43: Three Strangers

The next day, Leo, Linda, and Relestia wake up to find three new strangers sitting quietly in their courtyard.

They sat there curiously looking at each other for a while and only after half an hour did Kairos came out of his room to greet them.

The battle last night was so taxing on him that he fell unconscious in his medical solution until now.

When he saw them waiting for him, Kairos quickly introduced the two sides and what had happened.

The three of them introduced themselves.

The Aura Mage is a famous knight who had participated in numerous battles.

Kairos and Relestia are travellers who have not lived through the current times, but they still know that Axis Mundi had been filled with strife in the recent years.

The wars within the human kingdoms had been violent and plenty, until recently a new overlord emerged that united all the Jarls under her rule.

However, her rule was far from concrete having her victory gained with outside help.

In exchange, Royal elves that aided in her conquest wanted the humans to summon heroes in attempt to kill their own elven king.

For such selfish reasons, both races have committed many atrocities.

The kindly Jarl killed himself because his wife and daughters were slain.

The fatherly Jarl that didn’t want to participate in any wars until he was forced to submit because they were killing his people by the doves.

The Aura Mage had personally taken part in both of those missions.

The weight of his sins are no lighter than that of the bearded noble, but their choices were vastly different.

Unlike the Aura Mage, the spellsinger became a mage from her wish to protect her friends and family. Despite seeing some terrible things, her desires had never changed throughout and this simple but pure thought protected her today.

Likewise, the only Aura Knight left is a soldier who merely followed orders which was why the two of them could bear the weight of their own conscience.

Despite being Class 7, the Aura Mage shown himself to have the strongest mental fortitude compared to them, even above a Class 8 Aura Knightlord.

It is proof that willpower is not the only way, purpose, beliefs, conviction, even desires could make one a strong Aura Master.

After hearing their stories, Kairos sat down together with everyone and addressed what’s next, “The three of you wanted to follow me because you are attracted by the light. However, to decide if you want to stay, you need to know my purpose.”

The three of them heard about the existence of devils and saw for their own eyes the True Holy Dragon – Aisa and turned speechless with googly eyes. What kind of existence did they summon?

The three of them nervously looked at Kairos, feeling somewhat guilty to be part of the group that disrupted the champion that is destined to save all the worlds.

Kairos saw through their panic and laughed, “According to Aisa, I’m not the only champion but at least, you can serve a great purpose if you decide to remain. I understand there is a war going on in the shadows on Axis Mundi. If you need to return home, you can do as you please.”

Seeing that no one spoke, he continued, “Otherwise, we will be attacking Garden City next. My plans is to force the gnomes to submit and then take over the whole of Axis Mundi.”

The words he spoke was like a megalomaniac that wants to destroy the world rather than save it.

However, Kairos begged to differ.

“We won’t be killing anyone uninvolved. I came from a shabby little village that is a few days’ ride away from the nearest city. In that backwards place with no governance and frequently attacked by bandits or monsters, all we wanted is a lord that can protect us.

For the common citizens, they don’t really care about who is ruling over them. All they wanted is safety and a chance to survive.”

Most wars ends up with the common people suffering because of the heavy taxes, food rationing and broken families left after each battle.

On the other hand, Kairos do not have an army. There’s no citizens for him to tax and no soldiers for the enemy to kill.

Most wars are caused by a few individuals. If he goes after them, it is possible to conquer Axis Mundi without unnecessary bloodshed.

But for five adults and one kid to carry out a world domination plan is quite ridiculous.

No, if it is Kairos who had been chosen to eradicate the devils… it might be possible.

After all even in the Axis, the devil race are infamous.

Even a lesser devil can destroy this entire world. For someone that can defeat such an existence, to hear him claim Axis Mundi as his own is still believable.

And perhaps Like Kairos said, it may be a good thing instead to unify this chaotic land.

On the Axis, every few decades there are a major war, every few years a minor war. If it is not some Jarl that decided to invade his neighbours, it’d be the gnomes attacking race who cut down a tree, or the elves killing people over dietary choices.

The dwarves that are the only neutral party happen to be the most warlike race. Besides, their cities are loaded with the most coveted metals, weapons, gems, and technology, they have plenty of reasons to become good fighters.

The three of them quickly agreed to join the cause.

The Aura Knight jumped up excitedly, “My lord, are we going to attack the Garden City now?”

As a soldier he don’t need to think too much. Whether a mission is possible or not is decided by the commanders, all he need is to act accordingly. Regarding if he will be in danger, the knight frankly did not care too much. He would’ve been dead last night if Kairos had not let him off.

The Aura Mage and the spellsinger both stood up immediately after. They know how decisive this young man is. He had singlehandedly destroyed their operation before it even started.

But Kairos only sheepishly shook his head, then looked at the spellsinger, “Can you heal me first? I need a Circle 9 healing spell to recover my wounds but in my current condition I cannot draw mana greater than what Circle 3 spell needs.”

The mage looked at Kairos with a strange look.

He had utterly overpowered them without much wounds, at most some concussive shocks because of the Arcane Archer.

Unauthorized content usage: if you discover this narrative on Amazon, report the violation.

Then, was his wounds from before? This means that the young master had been fighting them while injured?

No, it wouldn’t be a simple injury if he needs Circle 9 healing. Those that need such potent healing spell are at the verge of death. Such a person that should be bedridden beat all of them?

The mage shook her head, “I have affinity with healing magic but I can only cast Circle 7 spells at most.”

Kairos nods. He expected her to be capable of as much. Circle 7 is already plentiful in his current situation. It should recover him to a-tenth of his usual strength, although to heal further will require Circle 8 and 9 healing spells.

He estimates that Circle 8 will be able to recover him to a-fifth, while Circle 9 healing spell will get him to a-third of his previous health.

Unfortunately, because his physique is already as strong as some weaker immortals, it is much harder to restore.

But if he receives Circle 9 healing spell, his condition can naturally improve and over time – possibly a month - be completely restored.

That, of course, is after taking into consideration the Ki generated by his Yggdrasil Treasure artefact aiding in his recovery.

While the spellsinger can only cast Circle 7 healing spells, it is good enough to stabilise his condition.

With his permission, the mage began to make preparation for the spell.

Unlike in Gaia where mana is abundant, there is a need to use magical objects as catalysts for certain spells.

The trinkets, wands, and staves are all such objects, but sometimes creature parts or lock of hair might be needed.

Of course, even if there are plenty of mana, some spells still require catalysts due to complexity.

These are magic that cannot be used in battle.

For example, the Greater Luck Blessing spell is normally casted with several objects that is generally considered to be lucky like a horse’s shoe or an infant’s first tooth. Those items replace part of the spell circle but theoretically unnecessary if the caster is capable enough to complete the full spell circle using his mana circuits.

This is why no one thought Kairos had used Greater Luck Blessing during the fight just now. Moreover, it was an enhanced version.

The spellsinger is considerably talented even for the magically endowed elven race. While her affinity lies in protective spells more than mending ones she quickly conjured up a powerful white magic that invigorated Kairos.

The heavy and tired air lifted from the young man’s shoulders. His complexion brightened and blood restored to his pallid pale skin.

Suddenly, an intense yet gentle Aura burst forth from him. With the pain lifted somewhat, his concentration is renewed.

Kairos could disconnect his sense of pain – or any other senses - if he so wished. However, he did not choose to do so because the moment he is relieved of pain he will slip into unconsciousness. He can only do so when he is safe from battle but didn’t want any bad habits.

Kairos checked his condition happily. Now he can use Class 9 Aura, Circle 7 magic, and some of his physical combat abilities are restored.

Additionally, his Yggdrasil Treasure is freed to accumulate Ki for him once again. The amount is pitiful but countless times better than when his Ki was deteriorating by the seconds to suppress his wounds.

With so many trump cards restored Kairos’ confidence to take down Garden City increased tremendously.

He quickly discussed the operation plans with the rest and the three new members provided many crucial information, the enemy’s internal structure, even their usual timing for change of guards.

No one saw the princess’ mouth curved upwards into a wicked smile.

With the three’s help, and this being an exceedingly simple mission, the discussion finished within an hour and they are ready to set off.

Little did they know that at the same time, the upper echelons of the gnomes are frantically preparing to mobilise their elites to the Blacken Soot City for Kairos.

In the wee hours of the previous night, their scouts had returned with dire news about how their embassy was utterly and completely smashed into smithereens.

Kairos’ purpose was met. He had taught his enemies who they were dealing with.

Of course, this is meant to buy time as he quickly increase his forces by deterring the Jarls and the elves.

For the gnomes, regarding if they became frightened or not, he didn’t really care.

After hearing the news, the ones who sent the gnomish representative quickly looked through the spell recording of the battle.

Two other elders sat by the gnome king as they watched the holographic replication of the fight.

Mana gathered and formed into Kairos’ figure as he destroyed the embassy’s fence and strolled into the courtyard. None of the guards dared to stop him, and he easily walk through their midst towards the embassy.

Except that the scene turned miniature, the colours, sounds, even the smell of the night air was no different from them being present last night.

“What a powerful sword aura,” the black clothed elder mentioned with a stern look.

The red clothed elder on his side nodded just as seriously, “Definitely a Class 9, but he is only showing Class 7 standards.”

The two elders and their king are ancient beings that had been on Axis Mundi since the land had gnomes. Their lifespan are longer than even Triple S cultivators simply because of their species. Some trees can live even for thousands of years much more gnomes that descended from a divine garden.

Although their strength are limited by this world, they have a treasure trove of knowledge accumulated through the years. With just a glance, they can see through many Kairos’ true abilities.

At this time Kairos had already arrived at the second level of the embassy facing the fifteen people who came out of the meeting room.

Surprisingly there wasn’t much exchange of words then, the lad attacked like lightning and two persons died immediately.

A look of shock appeared. Kairos’ movements were smooth and swift. But before they could comment, he struck a second time.

This time, he took out three gnomes in one breath.

Their faces turned grim.

It was too quick for them to see what exactly happened and Kairos already took their lives.

The three of them looked at each other while quietly contemplating if they can react to such an attack.

A look of horror crossed each of their faces as they realised that they can’t.

Not only that they couldn’t defend against such an attack, they also recognised the same is true for each other.

This is a terrifying discovery. There are someone hostile that can easily take them out.

They soon understand this is only the start and they were startled too early on.

With greater shock than before, they saw how he decimated his foes using nothing but Circle 1 spells.

The difference between them and this young man is clear. This is someone who can harness knowledge beyond their understanding.

They are completely outmatched.

They turned grimmer than ever as their estimation of Kairos’ combat potential kept raising as the fight continued.

But when they noticed how urgently he retaliated against the Arcane Archer a frown appeared on all three of their faces.

And when he casted the Stasis spell … all of them became frightening silent.

They understood the implications.

This way of using the Stasis spell is extremely rare but not unheard of for those who had lived for thousands of years.

This means that Kairos is severely wounded, to the brink of death. And yet, he so easily decimated powerful foes.

In the history of Axis, there is few that can match such a fearsome being.

But a dark figure appeared in their minds. Someone who had achieved similar things like Kairos in the past.

A person acknowledged by the Elf King Veritas who is strongest being in this world – the Mage King.

That being who claimed to be a reincarnated being from a place called Earth.

An illustrious elf that was renowned and feared through his baffling manner use spells for unexpected results. Equipped with knowledge thousands of years ahead of what their alchemists can accomplish.

The only being that the Elf King treated as an equal.

The Mage King might have died from old age… for even elves are not immortal, but his deeds had carved deeply into the history of this world that made him legendary.

The three gnomes panicked.

They have lived through the era of the Mage King. If such a being is to grace Axis Mundi, it is folly to take opposite sides especially for the sake of some unfulfilled benefits promised by elves and humans.

Unfortunately, they already aimed their swords at the lad, not knowing who they were up against.

Now the three have some idea, they know it is too late and too costly to seek reconciliation with Kairos.

The three of them stood up at the same time. They had fought alongside since the beginning and do not need unnecessary words to convey their thoughts.

All at once, the three walked out from the throne room and started addressing all their officials.

They must send out everyone possible to hunt down Kairos when he is still wounded.

After all, hospitals have Circle 5 healers. They don’t know when this young man had been wounded, but it must have been severe. They don’t understand why he attacked when he was injured, but they cannot let him have a chance to recover.

The gnomes outside were startled to see not just their king but also the two elders acting with such haste.

Those three are the pillars of the gnomes, to have them feel rushed, it means whatever they are instructing is vital to the survival of their race.

Very quickly, assassins, mages, healers, brawlers, guardians, soldiers, mercenaries, and all the combat forces they can muster are coordinated.

They will flood Kairos with countless sharp blades until they can drain him of his stamina and hunt him using the best fighters in their ranks.

This is a war against a single person and the Axis is familiar with how to handle such an operation. After all, this is a land of might and magic, and a single being – the Elf King – had blocked the way of many ambitious conquerors.

Although they had never succeeded against Veritas, they have confidence against a sickly counterpart of the Mage King. They did not know that this weakened target they intend to remove is currently on his way to smash their naïve thoughts.

Kairos fully intend to let them understand, no king can muster an army great enough to face a calamity.
