B4, Chapter 30: Medal of Honour (Part 2)

Aisa did not tell him why she wanted to hit the person, but as a primordial dragon of the Holy element, she is the representation of all that is good and sacred. And, if she doesn’t like someone, then it is likely the person is the bad one.

Kairos distinctively remembers that the little dragon once told him of her ability to sense if a person is good or bad.

“This Biyo is definitely bad,” he muttered to himself.

Unfortunately, his disciples does not know this, and Kairos had no evidence to convince them otherwise.

At this time, another person had joined the conversation with Tommy.

This is a woman of great beauty. Just a single glance at her would make her unforgettable.

Coincidentally, Tommy and the other boys did seen her before.

The Ghost of the Dance Hall, Purple Ghost.

No one knew when she arrive. All they saw was a woman with unparalleled charm sashaying into the middle of the crowd. Once a while she would pause and ask a soldier where Tommy is, and unthinkingly, the person would point her his way.

There was no obstacle nor any guards that tried to stop her, and in a good half an hour she found Biyo talking to Tommy and let herself in.

Strangely, only Tommy raised an eye-brow at her entry, while everyone else behaved as if it was natural for her to be there.

The Ghosts of the Dark Hall are undeniably worthy of their title.

Of course, not every Ghost could walk right into an army like her, but only to be able to do so in one way or another is one worthy to receive the title; even the Combat Hall’s Red Ghost. He might be a muscle-head and sometimes a dunce but that is his personality trait and not his ability.

Unfortunately, for the Purple Ghost, her charms are weakened against those in love.

Especially, right now, when Snow is glaring at Tommy like an owl that had locked on a possible prey.

Tommy only felt cold sweat running down his back and none of woman’s charm. He had never felt as anxious as now during his past few days of hard battle.

The Purple Ghost felt eyes staring at her but she promptly ignored the girl and curtsied at Biyo while the old man slightly bowed forward like an experienced butler.

After doing so, she returned her attention to Tommy and said, “Commander Tommy, congratulations on your victory.”

“Purple Ghost,” Tommy smiled, “I didn’t expect to see you here.”

It was an honest and likeable smile, but for some reason, she felt chilled to her bones. Perhaps it is because her Soul Slip is in the other party’s hands. As one of the top agent of the state, she had brushed past death countless times, but this is the first time she felt this helpless.

She returned his smile with one of her own, showing none of the jittery in her heart, and with an apologetic tone said, “Call me Purple will do. I’m here because, unfortunately, an emergency had happened and you are required to return to the Dark Hall immediately. You may hand the control of your army to Earl Biyo temporarily until we can get you sorted out.”

A glitter flickered across Tommy’s eyes.

Biyo’s appearance was a surprise while predictable. Purple Ghost on the other hand is exactly according to plan.

Biyo turned to Purple with a questioning look, “Young miss, did something happened to the Dark Hall?”

“Hur hur,” Purple laughed without a shred of mirth, covering her mouth.

She did not dare to reveal that their Jade Hall had been robbed. All their Soul Slips were replaced with dummies, and the actual copies are now in the hands of the Snowdrifts.

For most of them, their Soul Slips recorded their vows of loyalty to the throne.

After Calculate Devilheart – head of the Devilheart family - became Regent seized control, they recruited a newer batch whose Soul Slips recorded their vows of loyalty to the Devilheart family instead.

Right now, these slips are still in an inactivated state, but if the Devilheart family lost claim to the throne, then more than 20% of the Dark Hall personnel will become traitors and their slips will shine in alarm. And, this group of people is including Kairos and those from the Snowdrifts.

It’s because, to serve the interest of the Devilheart family will clash with the interest of the Vestimore family.

At first, Calculate planned to turn the entire Dark Hall into one of the Devilheart family’s arms. Those that had sworn their loyalty to the throne can just create another Soul Slip with their fealty to him.

However, the Ghosts and the Hall Master vehemently rejected this proposal, even in face of threats.

In the end Calculate understood the worth of the Dark Hall and finally compromised.

The Dark Hall and the Devilheart family had a deal to inject as much fresh blood as possible, and all of them had to give their loyalty to the latter.

In addition, they must take the Snowdrifts’ combat team under their wing by hook or by crook.

While their enemies could plan as much as they wanted, Kairos already launched counterattacks in the dark. Despite trying so hard, and after everything was said and done, the ball is still in the Snowdrifts’ courts.

Tommy looked at Biyo with an apologetic smile, then said, “To receive a medal is a great honour. I will definitely visit the palace at first chance. Is there a date for me to arrive?”

Biyo, surprised at Tommy’s willingness, quickly masked the expression on his face.

“Ah, I forget, these bunch of boys had already been subdued by the Dark Hall.”

He instantly turned more joyous than before when speaking to Tommy, it’s like he is speaking with a comrade now.

“The parade would take a couple of days to prepare. It should be okay for you head to the Dark Hall first then detour to the palace. Purple, have you arranged a way back for our young friend?”

“I’ve setup a temporary teleportation ward. We can return at any time and get back here just as quickly.”

Tommy nodded and decided to follow Purple.

Biyo laughed heartily and exclaimed he will return to Saint City as well. After finding out that the teleportation ward returns to a place not too far from the city, he and his entourage joined Tommy to return.

Kairos, Jim, Alan, and Edward, stayed behind with Tommy’s new private army, and they went into discussion with Esley on the next course of action.

In a few minutes, Purple led the group to a hidden spot out of nowhere and she took out a metallic purple sceptre.

The rod was covered with engravings that gave out a feeling of eeriness and a strange malevolent pressure.

The inscriptions are definitely runic in kind but their use escapes Tommy. The expert in Runes Mastery in their group clearly isn’t him, however, he is certain that this is a powerful artefact that Purple is holding.

Possibly a high-level treasure created by the Dark Hall that signifies her status.

Sadly, what Purple did with it next made Tommy feel like hitting his head against the wall, repeatedly.

With the treasured sceptre in hand, she started using it to dig up the soil.

Despite looking like a refined lady of great charms, she smashed up the ground like an old farmhand.

Tommy felt like shedding a tear for the poor artefact.

A few hits later, a layer of dirt was removed and a tacky looking emblem was revealed.

Purple sent a wisp of Ki down her sceptre and used it to touch the strange picture, and immediately, a house materialised before their eyes.

It was partly illusion and partly summoned. An existence that is trapped in the middle of two planes.

“The Gates of Dark Hall. As impressive as always,” Biyo exclaimed.

Purple smiled like she was praised personally. The house was a ran-down wooden hut with ancient timbers and a musky smell.

Its door is made of a strangely lacquered material that is neither wood nor metal, but it gave off a gleaming sparkle, reflecting a deep auburn red from the sun.

Upon the door are words of a lost civilisation – the Dark Hall (暗馆).
