Chapter 86: Pet Shop (Part 3)

Alan laughed so hard that he had to hold his stomach in pain, “HAHAHA, your contract beast… Jim, aren’t you a proud owner of a tiny bird?”

Jim’s expression turned sour immediately, he looked at Kairos with eyes that said, ‘could we choose another one?’

“Hahaha. Don’t worry Jim, Aisa told me that I have a good eye for picking beasts.”

When Kairos said that, Jim immediately calmed down. Even though Kairos did not say specifically how unique this rainbow parrot is, they could already guess that it isn’t something ordinary.

Of course, he couldn’t say that in front of the shop assistant, or else they wouldn’t be able to purchase it at merely thirty Blue Silvers.

When the rainbow coloured crystal fell into Jim’s hands, Aisa almost yelled in Kairos’ mind for them to take it.

The correct name of this crystal egg is called the True Flame Heavenly Bird, but since the people in Saint Empire have a commonly found rainbow parakeet that lay eggs that looks similar, they couldn’t really differentiate between these two.

“I think we’re done here. Please bring us to the magical beasts section. I’ll like to see the infants as well.”

“Alright, please come along with me young sirs.”

After the incident with the demonic kitten, the assistant is acting with his usual jovial self but now have a mix of indifference in his eyes. It was as though some parts of his personality or memory had been altered.

Tommy who is curious at his reactions brought the kitten before the young man’s eyes and started asking questions about it.

“Take Tinny away from my face.”

The reactions of the young man are entirely bewildering. When Aisa named the kitten Tinny, only Kairos heard her voice, but at this moment the young man said it out as if it is the most natural thing.

After this incident, Kairos stopped Tommy who is holding on to Timmy, the kitten from approaching the young man.

The group followed the assistant to the infant area of the magical beast section where many tiny spirit beast litters slept in cosy hand-made nests.

There are baby wyrms, wriggling sproutlings, large-eared gremlins and even snow apes.

When Edward walked closer towards one of the viewing crystal panels, a wind wyvern flew majestically downwards from the top of its stall, landing right in front of the surprised archer.

The other hatchlings in the room scurried back in haste, leaving it with a wide circle of space.

It preened itself proudly, its emerald scales glittering in the light of the room as it seems to wait for Edward to choose it.

“We’ll take that one,” Edward said without even asking for the price.

“That is a royal wind wyvern. Rather rare for its species and we seldom have one in store. Not only that, since it is a baby, it has great potential to grow into a divine beast, and it will set you back fifty White Gold… only.”

Edward immediately turned and looked at Kairos with eyes asking for approval. After all, the money was made by their captain.

“Sure, we’ll take it,” Kairos agreed, also without hesitation.

“This wind wyvern is a female and is more violent than the male counterparts of the species. They are powerful and proud but fiercely loyal once it takes you as its master.”

The assistant took out the beautiful glittering wyvern and handed it to Edward.

Till this point, no one realised how odd it is to be handed their pets without any form of protection, but everywhere in this shop, there are anti-hostility talismans placed for the protection of the customers.

Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings.

Should any beast run wild with the intention to rampage, those charms will activate and soothe it. However, the talismans cannot stop frightened beasts from running away, and so every creature had to be kept in their own stalls.

The truly odd thing is that the assistant has not secured any of the contractual beasts that Kairos and group have taken out. It seemed as though the previous incidents of the snow stout running off from Jones’ arms is something intentional if one thinks about it.

After purchasing a bird, a kitten, an ermine and now a wyvern, only Kairos and Alan still do not have their own contractual beasts yet.

When they checked out every selection and are about to leave the infant section of the magical beasts, a presence appeared out of nowhere within their Soul Perception. The aura it gave off felt like a majestic torrent of power that pulled all of them in like a suffocating whirlpool.

Alan turned around. His gut feeling is telling him that this is his fated beast.

A tiny figure came towards them unseen, from the corner of a shelf that is somewhat above their heads. Its movement is steady and smooth, taking its time as if it is a lord among the beasts.

Alan’s heart pounded as he looked excitedly around with the feeling that his fated beast is approaching.

Finally, everyone caught sight of a small, tiny, thing that is moving steadily towards them from the shelf.

It slipped off the edge, passing through a barrier, and at the same moment Alan looked up.

A tiny thing fell flat onto his face, and in the boy’s shock, he fell backwards and landed flat on his back.

“Oh what a cute magical beast. Let’s get it for Alan,” Jim hinted, his voice filled with the glee of vengeance.

“Okay, we are purchasing this no matter what’s the price!” Edward said

“What a perfect pet for him. BWAHAHAA,” Tommy said.

“Totally suitable!” Jones nodded.

“How much is it?” Kairos said, his voice deathly serious.

“It is only fifty Green Coppers. This magic turtle is kind of useless in battle, and most people only purchase it as a domestic pet since it is rather pretty.”

“A..A…A magic TURTLE?” Alan pulled off the small beast that had started to rest happily on his face after landing right on his nose.

Looking at the tiny black magical beast in his hands, it really is a turtle!

“W..wh..whatt the heck?! What can this tiny thing do in battle?”

“Umm…I just told you that it is not meant for battle. Well… I have heard of some richer fellows battling turtles and will sometimes collect these sort of pets. It is a rather interesting gambling sport. The first turtle pet that hides in the shell loses.”

“I don’t care about turtle gambling! I want a good combat contract beast that looks majestic!”

“Nope. We’re getting this one,” Kairos said with a snicker, rejecting his wishes without mercy.

Of course, Aisa had confirmed that this is indeed a powerful contract beast, but at the moment he had no intention to reveal that yet, especially since his brother’s expression is so interesting to look at.

The black turtle is actually something impressed but mistakenly identified as a normal magical beast.

Suddenly Kairos felt a calling in his heart that made even Aisa who is connected to him could also feel.

That way, Kairos.

The boy and his dragon walked off suddenly with everybody looking in surprise.

He assuredly strode towards a dimly lit area at the back of the shop, only stopping in front of a locked door and watched at it silently. The way he stared seems as though he is admiring a view or a beautiful painting, but for everyone else, it is only a plain old door.

“This is the hatchery where we place the unknown eggs. Let me open it for you,” the assistant said drearily like he had already expected Kairos’ reactions and he took out a key. Since this room has all kinds of unidentified eggs, it is difficult to keep track if one went missing, so the shop had kept it locked.

To even enter this room, the presence of a store attendant must be present.

When the door swung open, Kairos strode forward, walking confidently as though he knew exactly where to find what he wants. He stopped directly in front of a dull and unassuming crystal egg and picked it up. It is the kind that most people would pass it over, the layers of dust upon it was proof of the years it had remained untouched.

The crystal appeared colourless and rather lack lustre in his hands, but somehow it is the one that had attracted his attention.

“How much for this?”

“The way we judge the value of the eggs which we could not identify is by the area where it was found. This plain looking egg was discovered at the deepest recesses of a ravine that only triple S practitioners dared to venture. As such, the value of this egg will cost you eighty White Gold even though we are unable to provide any information on what it is.

Because of its steep price and dull appearance, everyone who had asked about it had passed it up. To be honest with you, this might just be an ordinary beast’s egg.”

The assistant’s manner of speech is still helpful, although his tone is no longer the same as when they met at the door.

“I’ll take it,” Kairos said, and handed over a pouch filled with coins.

In total they have already spent a hundred and ninety White Gold, thirty Blue Silvers and fifty Green Coppers to purchase six contract beasts & eggs. In return they bought from the pet shop a demonic white kitten, a variant type of the cosmos wanderer species, a royal wind wyvern, a million years snow stoat, the egg of a true flames heavenly parakeet and an unknown dull coloured egg.

After they walked out of the store, the assistant went to the store manager to report the sales.

A blank look appeared on his face again, as the streaks of gold slowly disappeared from his irises.
