B3, Chapter 88: Assassins (Part 3)

Vouno waved off their concern as the boys tried to help him up.

To protect them, he forcefully absorbed the assassin's attack with the help of his Chaos Sea constitution. The power that is far beyond his level almost tore him apart. Even though he released it immediately after, the wounds he sustained were serious.

Since the Silent Lambs Empire trip, Vouno had improved tremendously. Cultivating his meridian channels and Dantian, he could contain a much greater force than before. In fact, unlike the average cultivators, his body could hold much more energy. But unfortunately, with his current cultivation, it was far from enough.

"I can only do this once more," Vouno whispered while gritting his teeth to push down the urge to cough out a mouthful of blood. He could tell that by reversing the Crescent Moon Spear attack, it wasn't enough to finish off the assassin.

Kairos and Jones nodded, but they both know it is too dangerous for Vouno to try this a second time. As origin energy users, they are sensitive to the life force around them, and the cost for the previous move had brought Vouno to his limits.

The assassin took a while to return. His face was completely red with shame and anger from being struck with his own attack.

When he flew through the hole from the ceiling he bellowed loudly, "You mortal realm scums! How dare you trick me? I don't know what treasure you used to reflect my blow, but watch as I tear you apart together with it!"

He swooped down like a bat, and crashed onto the floor, breaking apart the tiles and rubble, then he stood up and with each step causing a small tremor he steadily approached.

Just from his aura, the others could tell there is a huge difference between them. Not only is his Ki radiant like a blazing sun, but the purity of it is also incomparable. He was like a being that came from a place untainted by this world's impurities.

Of course, Kairos, Jones, and Vouno, who had seen Old Ye, could tell that this level is still inferior to the immortal, Old Ye's aura.

Kairos looked around, ensuring that the employees had mostly cleared out of the shop. When they clash in a moment, they wouldn't have a spare effort to protect anyone.

He saw that there are a few staffs helping others to get away, especially those patrons of the shop that were caught in the battle, and among them there was Relestia.

Kairos' look turned ghastly at once as he gritted his teeth.

Infusing Mana and Origin Energy into himself, his cultivation shot up without reserve. At the same time, he barked a battle command, "Northern Swords Array!"

Like a practised army, the fifteen disciples took their places immediately, while Vouno and Jones were not any slower. The group synchronise their breathing together, and an invisible link appeared between them allowing them to share their strength.

There were not many combat formations that could provide the fluidity to let them change the number of participants or to shift their positions as they wished. Without needing to wait for the rest, Kairos rushed into battle.

The enemy was surprised at the speed he charged. His figure blurred with afterimage with every step he took, and the next moment he would appear several meters ahead. Even the Triple S ranker was shocked at his unnatural quickness.

"Immortal realm movement technique? No way!"

In just one breath, the boy has reached his side and attacked him with a gentle flick of his finger.

Despite how weak it looked, the assassin instinctively backed away as he felt cold sweat drench his back.

He turned around, looking at the direction Kairos flicked his fingers towards but saw nothing.

"Was my premonition off?"

He felt he was being fooled, but before he could react, Kairos attacked a second time. Using that phantom-like movement technique, the boy appeared once again right next to him and flicked his finger again.

This time, the Immortal Realm practitioner was certain. This ghostly movement and strange action is an attack!

Although he does not know how powerful it is, he wouldn't stupidly stand in the way.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

"Let me see how confident you are!"

With a shout, the assassin countered using a move of his own. He drew his weapon, an Immortal rank, Huang Grade, sword. For a cultivator that came down from the Immortal Realms, such godly equipment are more common for him, but for those in Gaia, it is already something at the level of a national treasure.

He infused his Ki into his blade, then let loose a ferocious slash to cut down whatever attack Kairos had sent his way.

Suddenly, his weapon seemed to be caught in mid-air as it struck an invisible pocket of Ki. Its gleaming edge twisted slightly as an unseen pressure tried to crush it. The sword that is made of immortal ranked ores threatened to be warped by the strange power.

At the same time, he could feel that the energies he had used to envelope his weapon with are rapidly draining away, but before he could pull back, a loud boom sent him flying back.

The sword clanked and slid to the side as he crushed noisily into the wall behind.

Whatever the boy had attacked him with were enough to blow him back despite the great disparity of their cultivation ranks.

*Cough Cough*

"A... Double S ranker managed to throw me back?"

He couldn't believe his eyes. In terms of combat techniques, the Immortal Realm should far outstrip what Gaia has. Then, how could a skill powered by a weaker opponent outmatch him?!

"I don't know what trick you used. But, in the face of pure power, all your ruse and ploys are pointless!"

The entire Gilded Snow shook with every word he spoke. It was as if a titan was roaring. The eighteen fighters felt their head spin, and those that still did not manage to escape in time fell down trembling.

"Quickly, exit the building and run as far away as possible," Kairos urged, no longer able to hold the enemy back.

His eyes turned to look at Relestia who had stubbornly stayed till the end. Although Kairos is worried sick, the princess knew that the safest place is near him. She couldn't think of any other person that the assassin is interested in, except herself. If she flees, she will be even more vulnerable. Furthermore, with her speed, it will be safer for the others to escape than to lure the assassin out.

She returned his gaze and saw the pleading in his eyes. At that moment, she wanted to go to his side instead of run away, but fortunately, logic took control.

"Go! Run for your life, as fast as you can move!"

When the princess yelled at those still paralysed with panic with all her heart, her ability as a soul healer shone through. The princess transmitted her urgency to everyone, and they felt a sense of direction overtake their body, and they picked themselves up with limbs shaking.

Although Relestia could calm and ease them with her latent talent, she needs to be calm in the first place, and right now it is impossible for her.

Still, the effect she wanted was met, and the crowd struggled to the exit.

"Oh? You vermin haven't given up yet? Ah, my target hasn't escaped yet? But she might, and that wouldn't do, would it?"

The Triple S ranker clapped his hands once, and his aura rolled out like a tsunami that smashed into the beach. Those with lower cultivation all fell on the floor vomiting blood, including Relestia.

Even Vouno who can absorb all forms of energies had turned pale.

"Everyone should stay for the party," he smirked.

"A single blade slices apart the heavens! World Sword!"

A razor-sharp sword Ki suddenly strikes at the assassin. Jones had attacked!

At the same time, another voice rang from above, "Lightning Spear piercing through the nine realms! Thunder God Descends!"

When no one noticed, Kairos had flickered above the crown of his enemy and dived downwards with his Swallow in hand. He had unleashed a modified version of his Formless Style combat arts. Just as Jones' had placed all his efforts on his sword mastery, Kairos was not less serious in training with his weapon. By now a year has passed, and he had grown adapt with his Swallow.

His weapon was radiating a gleaming white glow after being engulfed by his Origin Energy. The Pseudo-Immortal Rank weapon roared as it cut through the air towards its target.

His robes fluttered in the wind, his black hair seemed to glow with the reflection of the sun, and his stance held untold power about to be unleashed.

His figure that looked like lightning itself etched in everyone's mind, as he appeared one with his weapon.

They couldn't hear a slight crackling around him, as he swooped down on his foe, showing the results of his training.

*Boom*

The Triple S ranker hurriedly unleashed his attack to meet with Jones' blade. At the same time, he activated a protective treasure to block Kairos' Swallow above his head.

A resounding explosion happened the moment he defended. There was a devastating power hidden in Kairos' body when he unleashed the attack.

It was a simple, yet elegant strike, but the assassin found it impossible to dodge. However, he showed no signs of being worried. Feeling the lack of Ki undulating from that technique, he already concluded that there are only speed but no strength.

He was sorely mistaken.

The Spirit Contract of the boy had enchanted his every movement with lightning. Even if the enemy merely brushed against Kairos, he would receive a nasty shock.

At the same time, the Formless Style is a powerful combat technique that allows one that strikes and defend as one will. Every move he makes has become a technique!

No matter how simple it appears, it isn't something one can easily receive.

The two attacks struck him like a cannon. He was shocked at how powerful these two SS rankers were. His sword that met with Jones' blade, and the protective shield generated to defend against Kairos' strike, both crumbled. With his focus divided, he couldn't muster enough speed to throw up another defence to protect himself.

For the fourth time, the Triple S ranker flew away, bouncing across the floor before rolling to a stop.

The others breathed a sigh of relief at this sight. Even if all energy had fled their bodies, at least they are now safe.

"ENOUGH!"

A bellow that tore the Gilded Snow into two blew everyone backwards. Even the ground had cracked, causing a deep fissure to appear.

Then, as if nothing had happened, the assassin stood up once again. His figure flickered as he reappeared before their eyes, more furious than ever before.

If Syriong had receivedtheir attacks, he would be coughing up blood by now, yet this guy merely lookedas though he had been badly insulted.
