B5, Chapter 37: Heavenly Sight

Flash.

Kairos’ figure flickered and reappeared on top the roof of his rented courtyard.

He immediately saw the nearby shopping alley. In this late hour, there are still people going around looking for food or exiting the bars. The light crystals are dimmed but as a Cultivator the shadows did not hinder his view. He can see as far as the other end of the city, down to the wires that bind the houses together. For his current cultivation at Entry S rank, this will be rather alarming if other cultivators found out. This should the ability of a Triple S ranker and it is not limited only to his eyesight. His other senses are just as sharp - at least two major stages above similarly ranked cultivators. The reason for this is undeniable because of the Origin Cultivation Method. After all, it is a top-class cultivation method with no equal – so far according to his knowledge.

Kairos activated his Veritable Sight, and immediately he can see through illusions, energy types, energy flow, and various other information normally unavailable to the human eyes. He could see the thermal differences, ultra-violet reflections, mana wavelengths, life force, and even magnetic fields – albeit some doesn’t appear as clear as the others.

However, there are more things he couldn’t see than he could. Although blurry, he can make out of thin threads that he cannot identify. The first time he saw them was a year ago, and when he asked Aisa, he was told that the greyish ones are the threads of fate. It chains up a person’s past and present, and it leads towards one’s possible future.

The black ones are curses that one is entangled in. Everyone – more or less – are bundled up by those pesky things. While harmful, it is normally tolerable, but if a person gathered too much black threads it could become deadly.

The white ones are blessings, each endow a quality, ability, or asset. Every person is born with some and may acquire more later in life.

There are also translucence threads, more numerous than anything else. It seeps into everything, passing through them without resistance. These threads are the flow of time. Connecting past to future, they ignore everything except the strongest kind of gravity.

Supposedly, there are other things Kairos cannot see yet, like an immortal’s immortality or a celestial’s divinity.

Once everything falls within his vision, he activated the magic he prepared, uttering its name softly, “Heavenly Eyes.”

There was no need for incantation. At least, his Chantless Spellcasting has matured enough to achieve this, but for a while this skill does not seem to be reaching the next stage where he can throw out magic without speaking.

Because of this, he picked the spell’s name to be ambiguous enough to confuse others of its function.

Two purplish magic circles made of pure mana appeared, one in front of each eye.

They shrunk quickly until the size of his pupils, then quickly flew into his eyes like lens.

He felt a slight breeze blew on his eyes and suddenly the world changed completely.

The things he saw previously changed into various colours, outlines, and webs made from countless threads. From the colours he can tell what kind of energy a person possesses: Life energy, Mana, Ki, or Origin Energy.

They appear like balls or shapes within a person, when Kairos looked at himself, he could see a dim prismatic light coming from where his Ki Centre is, wriggly purple lines traveling around his body as traces of magic flow through his mana conduits, and countless white glow in every cell of his body that represents his Origin Energy.

For those who did not practice Origin Cultivation Method, instead of a white glow, there is only a greyish silver light that represents life energy.

Unfortunately for Kairos, the white glow in his body is dull enough that it seemed to be going out at any time.

The outlines surrounding a person – or even some objects - are other natural forces like thermal, magnetic fields, static electricity. But there is also more abstract energy fields like Aura or lifespan.

They look like different shades that envelops the person, spreading outwards to show how far their effect extends.

If Kairos could fly far from the surface of Axis Mundi, he will be able to see a gigantic outline that covers the entire world that represents the planet’s gravity.

Because he is surrounded by it, everything appears a shade darker than when he isn’t using Heavenly Eyes.

Fortunately, as the creator of the spell, Kairos understood the reason well.

Besides colours and outlines, everything he can see is embedded in countless webbings. Right now, the webbings appear like ghostly wisps that are hardly visible for him.

Each thread should represent fate, time, curses, blessings, or other strange things that are unthinkable at Kairos’ current cultivation.

He quickly thought about removing them from his sight. After all, if he cannot really see what they are, then they will only become distraction.

Just as he thought, the webbings disappeared, leaving only outlines and colours in the world.

Kairos smiled, pleased at the result.

The spell is an exceptional visual aid that greatly enhanced his current ocular abilities.

Originally, the Veritable Sight use heaps of Origin Energy and is the reason why he does not activate it all the time. Origin Energy is activated life energy, and life energy recovers slower than stamina, Ki, or most other energy forms; similar to the speed it takes for a wound to heal.

However, with the Heavenly Eyes spell he can replace Origin Energy using easily accessible mana and greatly increase how frequently he can use his ocular abilities.

Besides that, the spell also enhances what he can see. For example, he could only see threads before, but now there are webbings.

Not only so, but he can also easily adjust what he wishes to see, including enhancing the visuals or completely hiding them. With a thought, the colourful outlines surrounding objects faded, leaving only those from living things and items with particularly strong energy fields.

A smile appeared on Kairos’ face again.

The spell worked better than he hoped.

With such visual enhancements, he can easily spot treasures in a pile of trash. Of course, Kairos is already equipped with the ability to do that – otherwise he wouldn’t be able to find treasured ores and powerful magical beast eggs – but the difference is he can now do it passively.

His cognitive ability is exceedingly exceptional, but he still needs to purposely set his mind on things in order to achieve them. This means, unless he is actively looking for treasures, he wouldn’t find them.

The Heavenly Eyes spell is made to remedy that, helping him search for anything that should be of interest – and of course it is not limited to objects.

Kairos quickly adjusted the colours representing the different energies in and around people and creatures.

Ki, stamina, Aura, and mana became more visible. Immediately, any being that is attempting to use their power became exceptional glaring in his eyes.

At the corner of an old house, a cat is covered in shadowy magic as it stalked a rat.

Nearby, a spider is waving two of its eight arms sprinkling strange powder in the air to attract flies.

At the far end of the city, a man’s arm lit with bright orange fire magic as he lit the fireplace in his home.

Pleased, Kairos moved on and added some trigger conditions to automatically change the brightness and visuals.

Immediately, some less important energies at the sides dimmed in his eyes, but wherever he looked over, things will brighten.

Spotting someone is about to cast a spell, Kairos quickly turned his head away. Immediately when he looked away the patch turned dark, but a once-insignificant object suddenly flared up brightly indicating it is being used.

Kairos privately approved of this result. His innate combat talent may be improving slowly over time because of his cultivation method, but his reaction speed is still too slow because of his exceptionally low starting point.

Untalented.

Such a word might be coined for a person like him.

Regardless, a person’s limitation is set by how big one’s heart is, and Kairos’ could contain everyone.

With the spell assisting him in combat, things he might’ve missed will be minimised.

He turned his eyes completely away.

The things that went out of sight remained marked. In his vision, tiny arrowheads appeared to represent things he already saw. Tiny numbers marked the distance those things are, and their colours – red, orange, yellow, and green – displayed the level of danger to Kairos right now.

The colour warning changes according to threat level. That means if Kairos saw two people locked in combat nearby, it will be a yellow arrowhead. After he registers something, it will be recorded by his Heavenly Eyes even if he looks away.

Even if Kairos stop looking at them, his Heavenly Eyes spell will calculate the estimated time that the two will take to complete the battle. And if the victor is an enemy, the arrowhead will turn orange or red according to how fast this new hostile target will engage Kairos.

With the Heavenly Eyes, it is way better than him actively trying to notice every danger on the battlefield.

Kairos slightly let out his Soul Perception. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead despite this used to be the most basic use of his Origin Energy – an ability that he was using since rank F.

Immediately, the Heavenly Eyes spell’s range extend to cater to his Soul Perception.

He let out a heavy breath and stopped using his Origin Energy.

A shudder rock through his body.

The Heavenly Eyes spell is a great success and will improve his combat prowess by leaps and bounds.

However, there is one last thing he wanted to add.

Kairos added even more perimeters to the spell and then looked at the closest passerby at the shopping streets.

Individual appears to be married from the wedding band mark on left arm fourth finger. Accessory is removed indicating the individual is trying to hide his marital status. Target is likely a miner from the coal dust found on his clothes. Soil colour on boots are only found from the nearby Black Peak mines.

Kairos read through the information and smiled.

He looked at the dwarf again.

There are now indicators that display weak points and recommended course of action should a battle take place: Target belongs to the dwarven race and possesses stamina levels that exceeds every other known race. Greater physical strength than all currently known races with the sole exception of the Orcs. Attack pressure points and cut off blood flow to drain target’s energy. Attack limbs to disable movement. Caution needed against the increased frequency of low attacks due to height differences.

Kairos quickly simplified the combat recommendation into symbols he can understand and smiled again.

The spell’s analytical power came from Kairos himself, but because of the easily readable indicators, he can immediately spot all the weak points of multiple enemies with a single glance.

In the past, although he can do this, there is too much distraction on the battlefield. Now, he does not need to actively analyse his opponents, because the spell can filter out important information and send them to his brain.

For someone without much combat talent, this function filled up a huge gap between him and a true prodigy like his brother, Jones.

Kairos secretly smirked. He looked forward to fight Jones one day. At that time, he promises himself that Jones will understand what is called cheating in a fight.

“Huuu huuu huu… Wahahaha!”

“Ahem…”

Itching for a fight, Kairos looked around the city again and spotted that there are still gnomes going around.

Ah, since they wanted to behave like gangsters and block his shop’s renovation, he shall roleplay as a punk as response.

The grin on his face turned smug. The inherited acting skills from Vouno kicked in smoothly.

With a snap of his finger, Kairos added one last feature to his Heavenly Eyes… a hiding function so that others will not see the golden glow of his eyes when he uses his ocular abilities.

The spell will help replace the bulk of the Origin Energy needed to maintain the use of the Veritable Sight as long as he wished, but he will need to keep its function to the lowest levels. However, with the trigger conditions he placed, the spell will automatically adjust the amount of functions he need accordingly.

Because he plans to keep it activated all the time, it wouldn’t do for everyone to see his eyes glow. Unfortunately, the hiding spell he used is merely diffusing the light coming from his eyes. If he activates all the power his Veritable Sight has, his eyes will still glow.

Fortunately, now it changes in colour and that is ten times cooler than before, at least in Kairos’ opinion.

At basic strength, his eyes appear the same as usual.

At medium strength they will become purplish because of the mana.

At high strength, they will turn red.

At max strength, they will be bright golden orange.

Just thinking of how his enemies will feel when his eyes changes colour in the heat of battle made his grin even wider than before.

He looked at the gnomes blocking the shop that King Hogard gave him and quietly thanked them in his heart.

With a step forward, he jumped off the roof and walked into the streets towards them.
