Now that they are given a chance to learn the things that were barred from them before, they cherish every lesson they could go to.
They know how important it is to know a skill they could need on the battlefield. The knowledge could be the difference between life and death, no matter if they could use it or face someone who does.
And, the knowledge sealing techniques are especially valuable, giving fighters an edge in both offence and defence.
Relestia happily slide off her seat, as though she had not noticed the frown on their faces, and she chirped, “Okay~ let’s go play!”
This time, it is Diff who panicked.
She was just told, moments ago, to take special care of this girl and almost immediately, the girl is leaving the class.
The instructor’s reaction did not escape the boys, and they immediately stood up, intending to leave; knowing that the girl, which their instructor is apprehensive of offending, will follow.
Seeing this, Diff almost felt her heart dropped, and she called out to them straight away, “Wait.”
She paused, gritting her teeth.
“I will overlook this impudence just once. Now get back to your seats.”
It was a shameless attempt at reconciliation, but nevertheless, the boys sat down.
She breathed a sigh of relief and returned to class. Diff had some guesses on who Relestia is, and wasn’t willing to test out what she can get away with doing. If the girl’s background is as big as she thought, she might lose her job just because the girl’s parents found out her education was delayed from skipping class.
The guys had smiles on their faces, knowing that they could stay. Only Alan looked around confusedly. He had really thought that they would be leaving, but they sat down again.
“Didn’t… didn’t everyone want to go? Why are we sitting down just because the instructor said so?” He asked as though he is expiated. He was willing to skip the class of such a disagreeable instructor.
Relestia who is nearby patted his back and shook her head, whispering, “Big Brother, is so dumb.”
When Kairos and bunch turned their heads over in shock, she flashed a playful tongue, and they burst out laughing.
“This girl is really straightforward.”
“Well, Alan is quite oblivious as usual."
Their instructor did not notice the small exchange. Taking the silence of the class as a positive trait, she hurried and began her lesson through clenched teeth.
“Seal Creation is the art of containing energies of all forms,” she said without any intention to pause, “and in every form, there exists a counter-form.
There are two kinds of counter-form.
The first type repels energy, forcing it back.
Take this Mountain Iron for example. Certain pieces will push away other pieces by projecting a special energised field.”
The boys instantly understood that Diff was trying to explain magnetism. It is a concept far too complicated for the research level of Saint Empire, but the boys had already learned it from Aetnaeus, the Greater Metal Spirit.
The instructor went on to explain about magnetic fields, to the best understanding of what Saint Empire has, and then she moved on to the second kind of ‘counter-form’.
“Besides Repelling, there is something that is called the Insulator, named after the great Insulator Devilheart.
As you can guess, it is My ancestor, that proved the existence of this counter-form.
Of course, what it does is even more spectacular than mere repelling.
It would not interfere with energy directly but simply prevents it from passing through. Just think of Insulators as walls that stop energy.
I can see the confused expressions from the five of you, but don’t worry, I already expected you kids to lack the brain cells needed to understand this, unlike our Relestia who can skip years.”
The things she just said is a repeat of her first lesson that the boys had missed. Because of Relestia joining, she had to compromise by going through the introduction once again and indirectly helping Kairos’ group, even if she did not want to.
“We all know that seal symbols were created to invoke the two kinds of counter-forms, but first, we need to identify the energy before we can determine how to seal it.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
Kairos. Come to the front!” she called him with a smile on her face.
She is confident that the ‘miraculous’ prodigy of Saint Cadets Academy will soon be humiliated in her hands.
She had prepared an energy type for him to identify. A purple coloured flame that is renowned as a puzzle that even grandmasters of Saint Empire couldn’t identify.
It was found more than ten thousand years ago, yet there is very little information known about it, regardless where it had come from, or what properties it has. Even Galahad himself had researched it for a while with little results.
All they know is that the flame itself could be splintered into smaller fires or merged to restore itself, and it gives out high-heat, but it neither spreads nor can be extinguished.
As Kairos made his way towards her table, Diff took out the flame contained safely in a fire-proof glass bottle.
A dim purple light cast onto all who is near its vicinity when Diff placed the bottle down.
Oh! It’s a lightning dragon’s flame!
The moment the light wash over Kairos, Aisa chirped the answer directly into Kairos’ mind, and the mystery is solved.
At almost the same time, Tempest also spoke to him through their spirit contract bond, “Breath of the Lightning and Flames Monarch, Sango, or in this realm… he is better known as Surtr. I believe I have not seen his flames for ten thousand years now.”
If the researchers knew that what they had researched for millennials were revealed like worthless secrets, they would have cried. Though Kairos had no idea there was such a meaning for this flame, but he smiled internally, knowing that his instructor is trying to make things difficult for him.
“Tell me what energy type is this,” she asked triumphantly as he arrived at her table.
“A beast’s flame,” Kairos replied immediately.
Diff’s jaws dropped upon hearing the answer. She had heard that it took countless years before the brightest minds in the empire finally made the supposition that the flames should have originated from a monster, not of this land.
It is still an unproven theory, but nevertheless, a theory generally acknowledged.
“You must have heard that somewhere. However, it is also possible that this flame is a creation of high-level practitioner ten thousand years ago.”
“No, it is a certainly beast’s flame,” Kairos shook his head and repeated.
“Go Kairos~” Relestia cheered from her seat, as though he is the best, and it caused Diff’s face to turn grim while Kairos smiled helplessly.
The brothers grinned mischievously at his reaction. They had no idea who this new classmate is, but they are enjoying the rare chance to see their leader behaving in this manner.
“Ah, finally, someone to counter the infallible leader,” They thought silently to themselves.
What they did not know is that, not only them but in fact, none in the Academy except Principal Gai himself knows that Relestia is the little princess of Saint Empire.
“Foolish stubbornness. Well, if you are so confident, then you should also be able to tell what properties it has to back up your claim!” Diff barked in Kairos’ face before the class.
“You are right to say so.”
“Arrogance! This is the Unknown Flame Sovereign. Even the Emperor could not tell its origins for certain, much less its properties. Because of this, this flame is unsealable!”
In her rage, she revealed that the object she took out for Kairos to identify is unknown, even to herself, the one who posed the question. But at this point, she no longer cares, all she wants is to win.
Kairos, on the other hand, had no interest to compete with her, but his curiosity won him over, “If I tell you its properties, you can seal it?”
“I… I’d think so,” She stuttered, surprised by his confidence.
Kairos merely nodded and then activated his Veritable Sight. This was the first time Differential saw his eyes glow golden, shocking her silent. Its colour was mesmerising to look at, and the aura that undulated from Kairos in this state made her wish to bow down in reverence.
Hehe~ Kairos, your sight has become stronger again!
Sensing the familiar power rolling off him, the dragon cheered.
Although both Aisa and Tempest know of this flame, they are unable to tell its properties. Given time, the Elemental would be able to discern what this flame that holds lightning within could do, but it is faster to tell by using his sight.
Diff had a strange thought as she stared at him, that what if this boy before her is, in fact, the reincarnation of a god. In that case, it would make complete sense why Kairos was able to defeat Calculus who has superior background and training.
It is quite often that higher beings which sought to achieve greater cultivation will place themselves into an endless loop of reincarnations until one day attaining the rank it wishes.
For the plethora of lesser and greater gods in existence, it is a common thing for them to cultivate in this manner, but for the multiple realms below, it is a rare event to meet one.
Perhaps only once in several tens of millennials would a divine one that chose to cast off its former shell, take on a mortal form in one of the many mortal realms. A length of time short for the divines, but impossibly long for mortals.
A moment later, he reached forward and took the bottle into his hand and asked in a mystified tone in his voice, “If I can tell you the properties to seal this flame, can I keep this?”
“What? What would you want it for?”
The boy’s request shook out of her reprieve, but she nodded her head stubbornly, “Fine, there are multiple copies of it in the Empire. Giving one to you would be no problem, but if the answer you spout is some nonsense, I will have you be known as a braggart.”
Although the purple flame is unique, there was an entire sea of it when it was first discovered. Compared to what was collected, the flame within the bottle, merely the size of a thumb, is insignificantly tiny.
Kairos nodded slightly to Diff, his golden eyes making her tremble unknowingly and in the process made her more uncertain than before.
If it had been anyone else, she would have already backed off, but she didn’t because Kairos was the one who shamed her family several times before. Now it is too late to take back her words. Though she felt she felt she had been foolhardy, speaking out of uncontrollable spite, she could only clench her teeth and hope that her guess is wrong.
“This flame came from a divine lightning dragon. Its properties consist, in equal portions, both fire and electricity, with the addition of a tinge of curses.
I’m uncertain what curse it is, but it definitely is beast magic.
Its flame gives off high heat and travels through most materials, but does not consume anything it touches for it feeds only on the Heavenly Energies of Lightning and Fire elements instead of corpus forms.”
This information is enough for Diff to attempt a sealing art upon the flame. She looks at Kairos with eyes wide with disbelief. No matter how much she wishes to refute him, within her heart, she already knows she has lost.
