In a rundown hut made of rotting logs tied together with vines, a young boy sat by his fireplace in the quiet morning. The only sounds that accompanied him were the insects, the birds, and the occasional beast howling from the nearby forest.
With his back hunched over a wobbly table and the only light source is the sunlight seeping through holes in the wall, he worked furiously over an expensive looking parchment that did not fit in his home.
In fact, the processed Skycalf leather that he is writing on is worth more than the hut he is in, much less the table he is using. In this village, having such possession would be a grave sin. Not because his neighbours are covetous, instead they are generally hardworking and honest, however, Rutea is a small and backwards place, and poverty can drive a man desperate.
Fortunately, few are foolish enough to challenge the boy – a second-year cadet from the nearby elite school, Saint Cadets Academy. Even a combined attack of all his neighbours is not a match for a practitioner at his level.
Yet, the boy is lucky. The Skycalf skin may arouse the greed of mere villagers but fall beneath the notice of the truly rich and powerful. However, he did not know that the thing he is scribbling had a value that would make empires tremble and spark even the jealousy of gods.
Unimaginable wars will start and end for it, for what he has written unconsciously leads to the Grand Dao; The Universe’s Truth.
While waiting for his manor to finish construction, Kairos was crafting a cultivation method for his father.
The boys are on a delicate balance and need all the help they could get.
Calculus and the Devilheart family are after the Origin cultivation method, and Principal Gai is heavy on inviting him to the Fifth Prince’s faction. For now, there is no danger, but it is not unthinkable that it may happen in the future. Especially with the Gai’s character, if he believes that there is no longer any chance for Kairos’ group to join the Fifth Prince’s side, he will not hesitate to turn nasty.
Not only this, but there are also many parties out there that have an unhealthy interest in his newly invented runic and sealing weapons. On the surface, everyone wants a trade relationship with the Snowdrifts, but the truth of the matter is, there is simply not enough opportunities to offer everyone. Underneath all those niceties, there are definitely some parties that are willing to take some risk to make a gain.
The young boy also knows this and recognises the need to prepare for the worst, because if they could not get him to properly refine weapons for them, they might resort to taking hostage of his loved ones.
No matter what preparation he could make, there is nothing that beats actual strength itself. Unfortunately, his father has little talent in the area of cultivation.
When he sent a strand of Origin Energy into the meridian channels through Vouno’s wrist to see the kinds customisation needed for the Origin Cultivation Method, he discovered the worst constitution he saw so far!
It is complete chaos within his father’s Dantian, and almost all the meridian channels are clogged or too thin. With such a physical condition, even if his father doesn’t have a physical handicap, he shouldn’t be able to be a practitioner at all.
“W..w..what What’s this this, dad!?! How can you even have internal energy??”
“RAWHAHAHAHA Isn’t it incredible? I was very stumped when I realised I could not cultivate like others. Aren’t I amazing to still have this level of power?”
Kairos’ father has failed his first-year mock battlefield exam in Saint Cadets Academy years ago. After he left school, he continued the family business of rearing pigs, but without much talent, in farming, he managed to feed all his animals with something suspicious and lost the farm.
At that time, Jones’ father introduced him to his current job as a ranger, and after years of surviving countless dangerous beasts in the forest, he managed to improve his cultivation to I rank. It took him a good twenty years, but he finally managed to break past J rank!
Of course, those ‘countless dangerous beasts’ are merely dangerous for Vouno’s level. In truth, there are hardly any powerful creatures this close to the capital.
“With your constitution, it really is a miracle to break through anything at all. But, dad, that’s not anything to be proud about!!
Gosh, now I really need to think about how to alter the cultivation method to suit you.”
The cultivation method for Vouno will require a lot more changes than what he had done for others so far. In the first place, the inner energy within his father is ridiculously unrefined. To be able to control Ki is already a miracle.
To be able to increase his energy from J rank to I is another miracle. The capacity his Dantian had is so pathetic that he would lose to most twelve years old.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
The meridian channels that should carry his internal energy all over his body is also not working as it should be. Now that he is nearly 35 without a breakthrough, his foundation is already fixed, and his growth has slowed down. To create any cultivation method for him, would definitely require a huge amount of thought.
As Kairos’ concentration delve deeper into his thoughts, his eyes started glowing golden again. The brightness gradually increased, and the speed of his thoughts accelerated. At this point, Vouno is already staring hard at his son’s face.
There is something odd about this glow in his eyes. Every person that saw it did not think to question it.
“Aisa, come here.”
The tiny white dragon that was playing outside of the hut with the Land Wyrm heard his voice, and she flew right into the room.
“I’m going to send an F rank amount of energy into him. Help me protect his body.”
The tiny dragon nodded her head, and she touched Vouno with her snout. The small dragon seems to know exactly what Kairos wants.
She infused a small amount of heavenly laws into Vouno, and holy runes appeared within his flesh similar to what happens when Kairos activates the body tempering method.
Kairos, it’s ready to go!
The boy nodded and then looked at his father’s face.
“Dad, this will be painful. The energy I send in will refine and unclog all your meridian channels. Hold on.”
“Alright, I’m ready. Do whatever you need!”
A powerful and scorching energy blazed down his meridian channels, followed slightly after by a frosty energy that is just as strong.
The two forces intertwined within his body charging throughout his body and causing tiny explosions whenever the two opposing elements meet. The tremendous amount of power threatened to break apart his meridians and destroy his flesh, but protected by Aisa, he somehow managed to sustain.
In fact, what Kairos is doing is extremely dangerous. For Vouno to start cultivating at his age, the flesh that had matured needs to be reformed. It was an excruciating process of intertwining destruction and recovery targeting his clogged and unused meridian system.
The best method would be for Vouno to learn the body tempering method himself before such a thing is done, unfortunately, with his father’s cultivation level this is simply impossible.
That is where Aisa comes in. The holy primordial dragon is formed from the Heavenly Laws. Although she is still in her infant stage due to her rebirth, controlling some holy runic energy to protect the flesh is still within her power.
The holy element includes the attributes of healing, cleansing, protection, mental-shielding, and blessing. Moreover, each of those attributes could be used in to attack in unimaginable ways, making the element’s offensive ability incredibly high.
Such power is expected of a transcendent element, allowing the otherwise impossible cultivation process to be smoothly carried out.
The meridian channels in Vouno’s body started to clear out by the large amount of energy that Kairos is pouring into them. The F rank amount of energy is too much for his I ranking capacity, and several times his father felt as if his entire body is about to burst into flames, but every time that happens cool healing life energy will wrap around his flesh and patch him up.
After an hour of such torture, the ordeal is finally over. However, Kairos is not yet done with imparting the cultivation.
“Father, I am going to fuse the body tempering method into your Dantian. And as your Ki centre, it will slowly modify your entire body.”
Instead of letting him practice the body tempering method by himself, Kairos intends to make it automated. The main problem Vouno is facing right now having an incredibly weak physical constitution, so even if he managed to slowly improve his inner strength, his potential would be limited.
While the body tempering method could slowly improve certain latent talents, it will take far too long for someone who started late like his father to divert half his attention for external martial arts. Thus, Kairos came up with a creative solution and imprinted the technique within Vouno’s Dantian – the focal point for cultivation – and each time he refines his energy, his body will also be slowly tempered.
The advantage of doing external cultivation this way is its constant influence on the body. It allows the practitioner to focus on increasing his cultivation ranks without his physical ranks being too far behind. Unfortunately, it is also a slow process that takes years upon years for there to be any real differences.
On the other hand, if there is such a convenient method, every practitioner would jump to the chance, yet the number of people who have such means is zero. If there are any, it remains an undisclosed secret.
It’s not like there are no other who thought this up, but to create such techniques, the level of understanding on cultivation methods is far too advanced and complicated. Anyone with such abilities would place their attention on better endeavours, like creating a deadly secret art for example.
After a short moment, Kairos looked up at his father with a pleased smile on his face, “Alright! It looks like this is a big success. The next step will be to remedy your unrefined Ki. Father, your current internal energy is exceptionally chaotic and coarse, but for your body, however, it is in its natural state.
This means that you have gotten used to the wild, unrestrained energies. I will now tell you the martial chant to the cultivation method suitable for your constitution. It will further improve your physique and make it perfectly compatible with the chaotic energy types. This method shall be called the ‘Chaotic Sea’ technique.”
“Brat.. did you just name my martial arts? Hahahaha. Okay, it sounds pretty cool!”
A large grin appeared on the boy’s face, and he said, “It’s not only a cool name, but this cultivation method also helps you absorb any type of energy you meet directly into your lifestream. Ordinary practitioners will have to refine the energy that they take into themselves first, and then slowly make it their own over time, but you don’t need to and can immediately use it.
The trade-off is that you are unable to refine any Ki of your own, the Chaotic Sea technique entirely depends on external sources. So if you meet only Water Ki sources, then you only absorb water, Ki.”
If one disregards the slight inconvenience of being unable to cultivate by oneself and the con of being unable to generate Ki in one’s element of choice, it is an incredible cultivation method.
Like Kairos, Vouno will be able to absorb all sixteen elements without any problems, and it is possible for him to take in another cultivator’s energy, making him almost unbeatable among those his rank.
Unfortunately, to cultivate, one requires very pure energy, and he could not refine them from natural sources.
Kairos imparted the Chaotic Sea technique to his father then left him to practice on his own. After finishing this task, it’s time for his training.
