Chapter 56: What genius means

Chapter 56: What genius means

In the past few days, Kairos had only made insignificant progress on the way Orcs communicate. He had hoped to stop this mindless assault by talking to them, but in the end, he learning their language proved too difficult.

After all, even with his sensitive soul perception, it is a difficult task to distinguish between magic waves. It was just like trying to hear someone talk in a foreign language while using a cracked listening stone.

Not like Kairos ever had a listening stone in the first place…

However, his effort for the past week was not without results! Finally able to differentiate between positive and negative words, Kairos attempt sending the leader of the Orcs a sincere message of peace now that he finally see it face to face.

*Smiley Face*

Wuuuuut?! What is this human trying to sayyy?

…...

At this time, at another place in a beautiful white and blue coloured sect hall, an old man with long eyebrows like an insect’s feelers stood humbly in front of a beautiful fairy-like young woman. Though he looks like a revered deity, at this moment, he is acting frightfully like a child being reprimanded.

“Old Ye! Are you kidding me… You did not bring the young chap back?

Oi, do you not know he has the Asura constitution?

How were your eyes grown, BACKWARDS?!”

The old man is indeed the old immortal that once sat at the top of the flag pole back at Saint Cadets academy’s training ground, but right now he is very unlike those heavenly beings portrayed by the mortal realms and is instead trembling and sweating like a pig for the slaughterhouse.

Because they detected immortal energies where it does not belong, his task was to seek out the sources of the anomaly in the mortal realm. The ‘immortal energies’ are indeed referring to the soul force that Kairos and his gang learned from the tome of the Origin, but after seeing the five younglings with immortal energies had such poor talent, he quickly returned to the Immortal Realms.

His haste in returning is because that staying a day in the mortal realm will cause him to lose nearly a month’s length of cultivation, but this decision completely irked the young woman.

A person he can never risk to affront. She is called Ah Du Eh and is a higher ranked immortal, in-charge of the recruitment for their heavenly sect. Old Ye was sent by her to recruit those who found the way to cultivate immortal energies, thinking that they must be exceptionally talented people.

However, once in a while there will be children that somehow gained immortal energies but have poor talent. Such people are generally ignored for they are just lucky to have wriggled their way into immortal cultivation and are unlikely to become powerful existences in the future. If they are picked up and brought to the sect, they will just turn into sinkholes for their limited resources.

At this point, their sect may have already completely disregarded Kairos and his group, but their interest in Jones had not faded in the slightest.

The old immortal called Old Ye had been unable to identify the boy’s constitution until he jovially described seeing someone who had an interesting sword intent to Ah Du Eh. When she heard about Jones, she asked several more questions, and her face started to turn serious with an unsuppressed glint of excitement in her eyes as she confirms her thoughts.

The boy’s constitution is incredibly rare, something that is only referred to as a possibility in the books but not yet seen by anyone before. The Asura Constitution!

“Old Ye. Go right back, right now and bring him here! At once!!” She yells out loudly, and even before she finished, Old Ye has already run out.

……

Back at the uneven forest grounds under the thickly covered canopy. Among all the students facing the Orc King, the first one to initiate an attack is unsurprisingly Jones.

Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.

The boy had joined this battle for the sake of testing his mettle and did not hesitate to challenge the Orc King with a strike.

In an instant, Jones gathered an unreasonable amount of power. It crackled like lightning and infused with deadly sword intent. Just watching from afar, the students could feel how unbridled and fearsome the energy was. If they were to receive an attack from Jones… no even just getting close to him now was impossible.

As everyone stared at him wordlessly, a gleaming weapon made of his Ki manifested in his hand. With a single thought, he shattered it into a thousand shards, and they hovered menacingly around him.

Facing down the powerful C rank Orc King, Jones calmly prepared his assault. Granted, just recently, he almost lost his life just to defeat a regular C rank Orc Knight. But instead of becoming frightened, the experience has somehow emboldened him to attack an even superior being.

He dashed forward in a blinding speed as the shards flew around him like countless weapons. He readied a physical sword hanging by his waist and drew out strength from his Dantian.

Then, before he reached the Orc King, the shards shot out at odd angles. They flew at a speed that whistled sharply through the air. It was an attack that would’ve sent Orc Knights reeling back to safety, but the Orc King merely stood there looking amused as the blade shards rained unto it.

*Gasp!*

Luciette exclaimed just as Jones started attacking. But her alarm was not because of the fight before their eyes.

Instead, she watched with wide-eyed disbelief as any injuries it sustained, including the wound she inflicted, healed in an instant.

The damage she did wasn’t something simple that could recover just because of a beast’s robust vitality. The puncture left in the middle of the Orc King’s torso was the White Snow’s family art, filled with aggressive parasitic Ki that would feed on the victim’s lifeblood and grow in damage. But, the Orc King overwhelmed it with so much energy that the technique exploded like an overfed whale and then it regenerated itself instantly.

Such strong healing power can only be described as an abnormality even among beasts.

Not only so, but it was also undertaking Jones’ Sword Ki blast without flinching.

On the side, Calculus smirked as the supposed ‘strongest blade’ amongst the first years could do nothing.

“Not really all that impressive now huh?”

Killing this Orc no longer means anything to him. Blood feud? Was there such a thing?

The young Devilheart heir has never treated the Orcs as anything more than dull creatures. Learning their culture is a ridiculous notion, and he had absolutely no inkling of the complications he had landed himself in. Besides, hasn’t an opportunity presented itself? He doesn't have time to waste on brooding over useless pig caresses.

Right now, he has another motive.

His plan is simple.

Deadly, but uncomplicated.

If he succeeds, not only he can satisfy his hatred, he might even further his current position. And, in any case, he can get away with whatever he do, so why does he need to hold back?

He ran towards the Orc King but at the same time he treacherously bided his time.

Luciette who was just nearby misunderstood his intentions, and she ran forth to help. The Orc King is far too strong for any of them alone. Only if they join forces that they could hope for a chance to win.

If the Orc King survives, then humanity will be in danger once again.

One must say that although Luciette is a brilliant strategist, she is still an innocent child that could not judge a person’s character very well. In her family, she is greatly doted upon by her parents and her kindly grandfather, but it painted her a cheery picture that made her think that everyone else is kind.

She even thought that Calculus had realised the predicament they are in, and volunteered to be the vanguard.

On the other hand, Kairos’ group, with Jones included, are well able to judge the worth of Calculus’ character with limited interactions. Their humble backgrounds had equipped them the good sense to take many things with a pinch of salt.

“Northern Star array #2: Northern swords!” Kairos yelled decisively. He could tell Calculus have a wolf’s heart even with his eyes closed, and a rabid beast needs to be put down quickly.

His team immediately fell into place around Kairos, in a unique formation never seen before. The Northern Star formation is the one that requires the least amount of people, and like some other formation, it also has many variant types made for specific purposes.

These all took a while to describe but they got ready in an instant.

Seeing how all the humans were charging towards it, the Orc King’s hideous face turned into a smile that looked like a grimace. It lightly lifted a foot, and before anyone could reach its side, it stamped downwards for an immense shockwave that knocked everyone off their feet and sent them hurling backwards.

A simple stomp had forced back six E and two D rankers and also broke apart the Northern Swords array. The earth around them shook terribly and blasted away the very air.

Jones who was the closest to the Orc King also had the fastest reaction. When he saw the stomp coming, he quickly jumped up to prevent any trembles from weakening his balance. However, he soon realised that this move was a bad one. He had sorely underestimated the Orc King’s unreasonable physical strength. Without any resistance after jumping into the air, he was sent flying off into the forest like a bullet.

*WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA*

A long cry accompanied his exit, as the rest stared in stunned silence.

“BWAHAHAHAAA!” at the same time Kairos burst out laughing, loudly and without any reserve. In his heart, Jones is his brother so naturally, why shouldn’t he enjoy seeing that hilarious flying figure?

The rest of them quickly steadied themselves the moment they landed. But when they stood back up, the deep crater before the Orc King because of that one little stamp of its feet, caused an unnatural coldness to creep up their spines.

However, before anyone had a chance to move, a flurry of Ki swords rained down on the Orc King. From the same direction where Jones was blasted away.

Those are not mere shards, but entire swords, larger than the ones he used when fighting Kairos. Even when flying off, he had somehow managed to set off several powerful counterattacks. Creating even one Ki sword should have required time and intense concentration. What more, the attacks not only had the exceedingly sharp aura typical of Sword Ki, but they gave off an ethereal feeling that expulses from them as they flew.

For the first time since the fight began, the Orc King became serious when facing an attack, and it immediately put up its guard.

With its keen senses, it could tell that something is off about the Ki strikes, and once again the King felt the unlimited potential that humans have.

The first time it had such a notion was from Edward’s arrow which reaped the lives of numerous warriors. Then afterwards, a boy with a Warrior Lord’s aura blasted the Orcs out of the ‘cave’ with a punch, no doubt if he is allowed to mature, he would become yet another great threat. Even a while ago, a thin, frail-looking, human child managed to stab through its body with a metal twig.

Time and time again, the humans have proven that they are a dangerous race capable of great destruction.

These Ki swords collided mercilessly against its magic barrier. Each was exploding into a silvery cloud of dust, and in an instant, its guard shattered as deep cuts appeared all over its body.

The mysterious energy infused in the blades had overwhelmed its guards, and now wrecked its body. Its wounds continued to worsen, until its energy spent.

As the Orc King’s defences were broken through for the first time, Kairos and gang were in far greater astonishment than the rest. They are the only ones that could recognise what had happened.

Soul Infusion!

Somehow, just from a single contact with them, Jones found out the way to use soul energy, and even mixed it with his sword Ki creating this ridiculous result.

What does it mean to be a genius? This!
