CH. 115

Hae-Hyuk looked at Min-Su and asked him: "Do you know what those eggs are?" and, as he expected, Min-Su shook his head negatively. Hae-Hyuk explained: "These are Armada Wurm eggs. These beasts are nicknamed the Sand Whales. They originate from the desert conclave and are one of the most destructive spiritual beasts in that area. They have no limits to their growth you see"

Both Min-Su and Jin looked at him with wide eyes. No limit was a notion very peculiar. It meant that they could keep on growing. As long as they weren't killed, they could evolve. The Carnassid was well-known for its ability to grow up to the 60th stage. 'Up to' being the important part. But these...had no limits.

Jin couldn't help but interject: "If they are so impressive, how can they even be brought to such a place?"

He wasn't wrong to ask. It was a type of beast beyond what could be seen in general. It was something far too powerful to be appearing at this gathering. The Carnassid was already close to the limit of what could be expected. This was something beyond high-level cultivators.

Hae-Hyuk answered Jin: "It is indeed impressive but it can't be reared that easily. That's why it appeared here. Those eggs are useless to people who don't understand the Armada Wurms. Most cultivators might think of these as a treasure beyond treasures but they aren't. In fact, they are often used to scam cultivators. Well, when they appear"

Min-Su: "But Master, didn't you say they have no limits to their growth?"

Hae-Hyuk: "True. But how do you think they grow? This Carnassid can eat pills and such like us. But not this Wurm"

Min-Su patiently waited for Hae-Hyuk to arrange his thoughts and explain everything to him. On the other hand, Hae-Hyuk thought of the potential of the wurms. If Min-Su could raise them... On top of the Carnassid... But to raise them would be too difficult. Even raising just one... Hae-Hyuk sighed. It was truly a shame.

He told them: "The hatching aside as I can help with it, the way to feed and grow those things is too heavy. They only eat spiritual minerals. And they can only absorb energy from those. You might be easily able to get them up to the 30th or even the 40th stage but beyond that? Even I wouldn't be able to do so"

Min-Su understood what his Master meant. The cost to rear them was too huge. That was it. It wasn't because it wasn't worth it but because it was simply too difficult. He looked at the two eggs with a peculiar expression. Was there really no way to rear those? The attractiveness of an ally with unlimited growth was high...That's when he recalled how Hae-Hyuk mentioned that there were a few wild ones at the conclave. He asked: "But what about the wild ones then?"

This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

Hae-Hyuk chuckled as he told him: "They are peculiar wurms who live in herds. And in the desert. They can dig up the minerals they need themselves. Of course, there shouldn't be any beyond a certain stage. I don't think there is any beyond the 60th stage. Otherwise, the entire world would have had to mobilize. They are that strong"

Min-Su pondered before he tentatively asked: "Then, wouldn't it be worth it even if they remained at the 40th stage?"

Hae-Hyuk considered for a moment and explained: "It would be an impressive deterrent against other forces and they might make perfect gatekeepers in a way. But if you met someone at around my level...It would be pointless. All those resources could be used for much more important things"

Min-Su asked sadly: "Are they really not worth it?"

Hae-Hyuk answered him: "It depends on what you plan your future to be. If you want to be a wanderer, no. But if you plan to settle in a single place... They are very good at digging so they might be perfect for building things. Their size is impressive too. The decision is yours to make"

Min-Su never had any grand dreams. If he could reach a high-level enough that he could settle somewhere peacefully with a harem of his own or a single wife worth loving, he would be happy. After thinking for some time, he decided to hatch and rear them. Even if they ended up becoming useless, so what? It was fate that brought them to him. And he could already imagine himself riding on a wurm...

He turned to his Master and asked for his help. Hae-Hyuk agreed. It was Min-Su's decision and he would respect it. He would have sold them instead if it had been him but it was fine to try rearing them too. At the very least, it wasn't as risky a business as the Carnassid. Not many beast masters would covet those wurms who only devoured resources without bringing in any benefits.

Jin asked at that moment: "Doesn't it mean that they can sense and harvest spiritual minerals?"

Hae-Hyuk and Min-Su turned to him. Min-Su had an excited expression on his face. If they were spiritual mineral detectors, wouldn't they be more than worth rearing? They could bring in immense profits! But Hae-Hyuk crushed his dreams right away while chuckling: "They would be worth a lot more if that was true. In fact, they can detect those minerals but they eat them right away. Even if their master were to order them to bring them out to him, they wouldn't do it. They are gluttonous due to their inner wurm nature. It is unfortunate but they really don't have much worth"

Min-Su deflated but remained intent on rearing those. The three beasts were his treasures and he believed they were worth it. Hae-Hyuk wouldn't agree but it wasn't his opportunity and rejecting or accepting it wasn't up to him. As a teacher, his role was to guide and teach. The choices remained in his disciple's hands.
