V3 Chapter 66
“...that’s an incredible ability,”
Rain said, amazed.
The power sees through lies- that would be a very convenient ability, especially in this world.
If he has this skill, then no one would be able to deceive him and make use of him. And he can also snuff out problems even before they started to bud.
However,
“Well, because of that, we are also hunted though,” the yellow one muttered with an aggrieved expression.
“Hey you can’t say that!” the green one cried out in a worried expression.
“It’s fine, I don’t think he would do something like that,” the red one smiled faintly. She’s really mature for her size.
“What does that mean,” curious, Rain asked.
“Well, stupid humans catch us and use us as a material for alchemy to create a magic potion that can give one the power to use our eyes for a short amount of time. That is to see through lies and illusions,” the red one lamented. “That’s why we are being hunted, causing us to seclude ourselves from the material plane.”
“Is it really okay telling me that?”
Hey, that sounds like trouble. And this fairy, isn't she too trusting? What if he was actually a bad guy who would be tempted to it, they would surely be caught, you know!
“Humans already know this anyway so there’s no point in hiding it. And besides, though, it’s should be an inferior skill compared to ours, you have the Fairy Eyes, do you? You don’t need that stupid thing. If you used that potion, you will instead lose your Fairy Eyes.” she said.
So that’s why she was not worried about me catching them. It’s because she doesn’t consider me making use of them to make that potion.
But he didn't have any skill like that, though.
He was able to see them because of another skill. And he so didn't have the cheating ability to see through lies and illusions...
Rain wondered, then suddenly he recalled something.
“Are you talking about the Pixie Dust?” he recalled reading about it from the book Sarete lent him. However, the book was so old, and the information about the Pixie Dust was incomplete, its page was in pieces.
Even Sarete doesn’t know to make it as well. From what she had said, it can only be heard from legends and myths, and no one had able to recreate it since the Lost Century.
In the first place, Fairies which was one of the most important materials for it is incredibly difficult to find. Or rather, there are even rumors about them already being extinct in the current era.
“Pixie Dust? Oh, that thing? You also know about it, huh? I thought that the accursed item had been forgotten. Are you an Alchemist?” the red one asked suspiciously.
“Yeah, but don’t worry. That item is indeed already lost. Well, at least, I only heard about it now. And even if not, I don’t have any interest in alchemy that requires stealing lives,”
“Not a lie,” she smiled sweetly. “Well, I’ll tell you, Pixie Dust is different. Pixie Dust can grant you the ability to fly without using magic for a short amount of time. And also, it gives you the blessing of the Fairies, thus, granting you excessive luck and fortune for a while. I heard it was an incredibly popular item in ancient times. But to us, it's the darkest era. We faeries have been hunted by many, pushing us to a large decline of our number,”
“Ironic, receiving a Fairy Blessing after using a Fairy’s life to create it?”
“Isn’t it?” the red fairy grinned. “Well, Pixie Dust is actually just an improved version of the Fairy Dust we usually generate from our wings,” after saying that, she suddenly started wriggling, flapping her wings. Then, sand-like red powder started falling from her wings, piling up on his palm. “Here, I give this to you as a present, let’s be friends,”
“Okay, my name is Rain... Rain Revert. It's nice to meet you, cute fairies~”
“My name is Nono,” the red fairy giggled and she came over, sitting at his thumb. “She is Lay Laylay, and the other one is Rifa,”
“Hello, Rain, I’m Laylay, let’s be friends,” the yellow fairy flew over, and suddenly hugged his face. She's the innocent type, and very touchy as well.
“I’m, I’m Rifa,” the green one was quite timid. Still, she looked cute with her green hair tied into a ponytail.
“Then, we are now friends,” Rain chuckled, thinking these little fairies are really cute. Then, his attention turned towards the red powder that had gathered on his palm; “So this is fairy dust?”
“Hm, it cannot grant you the ability to fly, but it can still give you the blessing of fortune, as well as improved power and efficiency in Flame Magic.”
“Then, I will also give you my Fairy Dust, Rain.” said the seemly energetic Laylay.
“Then, then, me too,” said Rifa after seeing the two of them gifting him fairy dust.
Now, on top of his palm, three colored powdered hills could be seen. According to what they said, Red Fairy Dust can give enhanced efficiency in flame magic; Yellow Fairy Dust can increase the speed of growth of plants and herbs when sprinkled, and lastly, Green Fairy Dust can let someone use wind magic temporarily even those without the affinity for it. And this type of fairy Dust can help one fly like the legends.
So there are types of Fairy Dust... or rather, Fairy Dust actually depends on what type of fairy they came from...huh.
The Fairy Dust seems to be depending on the fairies themselves, more or less, the three Fairy Dust in his hand seemed to be the most common. Only a few have special effects, and only high-ranking fairies can give them. Still, whether they are rare or not, Rain was still very grateful for them.
He carefully stored the Fairy Dust in three different vials, before thanking the beautiful, and adorable little fairies again.
Laylay’s laughter echoed in the area like little bells. In fact, she had already let down her guard against him and even dared to sit on his shoulders as if it was natural.
Among the three, she’s really the most cheerful, like a naive little girl. As for Nono and Rifa, they were sitting at the top of his head, playing around his hair. They talk and chatted about many things, including the things happening in the Desolate Cave as well as the so-called Imaginary Plane: the Spirit World.
Rain had learned many things. Though the little fairies only talk simple things about the Spirit World, their knowledge about the Desolate cave is not so little either.
It seems as if they knew about the Desolate Cave upside and down, and Rain heard about many things he doesn’t know.
Suddenly as they were laughing, having fun, the three little fairies suddenly stood up and flew in the air.
“It seems like it’s time,” Rifa said with a soft voice, seemly sounding very reluctant.
“Mou, I still wanted to be with Rain,” Laylay pouted. “Play, play, play!”
“You know you can’t,” Nono said with a wry smile. Though, she’s also quite reluctant. “The Spirit World would be closing soon, we need to go back,”
“Are you leaving?” Rain asked.
“Hm, we need to leave. The Fairy Queen forbids any Fairies to stay in the mortal world for a long time. We will be punished if we are discovered.”
“Then, I guess it's a goodbye,” Rain said. Though he also wanted to be with them for a little longer, it would be bad if they were punished.
“Hmmm, I still wanted to play with you,” Laylay flew towards his face, and rubbed against his cheek like a spoiled kid.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
Rain chuckled in amusement and cup her with his palm, “I’m always here, aren’t I? if you missed me, just come and find me. I will play with you every time. I won’t leave the Desolate Cave, so if you got trouble don’t hesitate to find me as well,”
“Hm, we will do so,” Nono nodded, along with Rifa. Though, the latter seemed to stare at Laylay in jealousy, envious of how direct and straightforward the little yellow is.
“Ah, that’s right,” suddenly, Rain remembered something.
He then opened his Grimoire and pulled out a bottle of yellow honey. It’s a fist-sized round bottle. It’s pure honey that he had brought from the system shop, one that can be found and seen in the modern world.
It seems like the honey in this world is quite rare- well, seeing that honey can be collected mostly from bees, and these bees are meter-sized monsters with incredible firepower, honey became quite a rare delicacy.
What’s more, he also realized that the honey from the modern world is much sweeter than the honey found in this world. Though it has no incredible special effects such as healing and recovering from fatigue or wounds- special effects of the rare honey that the giant bees made, but the taste and flavor-wise, the honey from Earth is better.
Even the Lamians can’t help themselves but get addicted to it, and it became almost a staple dessert. They even called it the Nectar of the Gods. Though, it’s just normal honey.
So, since even the Lamians loved it, Rain felt that the fairies would surely like it as well.
“This is? Nectar? Or was it honey?” Laylay flew over and sniffed at the mouth of the small bottle. “Smell so sweet!!” she cooed.
Excited, she dips her little finger on the honey, and then took a taste with her cute little tongue. Immediately, her entire body trembled, and she cried out in excitement.
“Wow!! It's so sweet! It’s so delicious!” she said and continued sucking her finger. Nono and Rifa become interested and they have almost the same reaction.
Rain laughed in amusement.
“Here, I’ll give this to you as thanks,”
“Really?!” Laylay shrieked happily, and immediately hug the bottle of honey. “Are you really giving this sweet to us, Rain?”
“Yeah, take it,” he said, giggling.
The small little girl happily hugging a small bottle of honey that is much bigger than her, is quite an amusing sight. Though, judging from the glittering things under it, she must have been using magic to make it float.
Well, that’s a given, with how tiny her arms are, it would be impossible to carry it.
“But you must share with Nono and Rifa, okay?”
“Okay~”
“Thank you, Rain,”
“Th, thank you,”
“You’re welcome,”
The three tiny fairies hugged his face for a while, and he even felt two of them leave a kiss, before they flew away, turning into shards of light and disappearing.
They are really cute... I can't believe that humans pushed them to the brink of extinction.
How are they able to have the heart to hurt such love creatures...?
Really, how disappointing. Humans in this world are idiots~
Rain stayed there for a moment, then, shaking his head, he dusted his pants and started walking away.
He had never expected he would actually meet a legendary and mythical elusive race such as Fairies. It seems like there are still a lot of things he didn’t know about this world. And now he was eager to find out about them.
Exploring this world seems to be a thrilling and exciting adventure.
Anticipating an unknown future and races he would meet along his journey, just like how he meets the three cute, and adorable fairies, he once again continued on his journey.
… …
Rain’s exploration has progressed considerably, and after getting some useful skills along the way, he doesn’t need to put any marks to lead back home anymore. In addition to new skills, fighting against new monsters has also improved his skill levels and combat skills.
As he walks through the thick foliage, his brows suddenly frowned.
His ears start to pick up the faint sound of leaves rustling and low grunting. Though he slows his pace to quiet his travel, soon the grunting sounds start to become progressively louder.
A monster?
He didn’t forget to check on the map of his smartphone, and indeed there was a monster around him. He looks around but could not see anything. Where?
He glares at the surrounding trees and his eyes dart up and down to check the treetops as well but still, he doesn't see the monster that should have been closer to him now.
He frowned and trodden carefully for a few more steps until a loud snap of a tree branch sounds out from on the road. His skill immediately activated; his aura, presence, and figure slowly disappeared in thin air. He then darts behind a tree, pressing his back to it and peeking his head out the side to get a look at what caused it, his eyes widening when he catches sight of the creature.
Lumbering slowly down the road are two Minotaurs.
Each of the monsters is easily seven to eight feet tall with large, heavy hooves that leave imprints on the soft ground. Its leathery skin is dark brown and its body is covered with light patches of very short fur.
Rain furrowed his brows, sizing up the monster's forearms- as expected of high-rankings monsters even in the Desolate Cave. They do exude some incredible pressure. Especially, looking at those intimidating sets of upper-body muscles and broad shoulders.
One carrying a rather hefty-looking steel ax in a sheathe on his back that seems to wrap around its bare chest. The head of the ax tapping up against the simple loincloth it wears as well. The other hand has a halberd-looking spear, or whatever it was, perhaps a combination of both.
He had heard some Minotaurs are living deep behind the cave, not on the surface, but underground. And their territory should be in the South. But what is it doing here?
With how territorial monsters and demi-humans are, they would avoid trespassing on someone else's territory, or else, they would be hunted. And if things go wrong, this might even cause a war between two tribes/races.
However, what caught Rain's attention, however, was their conversation.
They were talking- well, grunting and groaning actually, not much of a speaker these two.
Rain thought it was nothing, but as he continued listening, the grunting slowly becomes clear words.
“$#%, &R%^, (& found, ^&^*&%%$$$#% mates, back, &uck”
His cheat-skill [Language Comprehension] once again displays its incredible power.
[You have learned [Minotaurian Language]!]
“Much, have now, breed,”
One of the Minotaurs said. And when he did, Rain noticed the large bulges on their groins twitched. The corner of his eyes twitched as well. Don’t tell me…
And as expected, as he continued eavesdropping on the two Minotaurs' conversation as they walked past where he was hiding, he can finally confirm his suspicions.
Though he doesn’t know who, or what race they are, he was certain that these monsters had kidnapped some women and brought them into their lair.
A preparation, perhaps, for the upcoming winter.
Well, I heard from Zarda and the others that most Monster Tribes do something like this, especially in this kind of season. But hearing it really makes me annoyed for some reason...
Some even monster tribes gathered exploration groups to exit the cave and attack human settlements, or adventures; enacting murder, plunder, and kidnapping people. Well, it seems like Lamians does something similar as well, before. Though, they have stopped doing it now.
But most Monster Tribes in the Desolate Cave have that kind of tradition.
Rain didn’t have the interest to blame them, nor accused them of such savagery. As he knows that this kind of life is normal, especially among monster tribes. And if he condemns them, it would be like condemning the Lamians. As they are no better in the past.
And besides, in the first place, condemning a dog doing what a dog should do, would be stupidity. This is already an instinct to the Monster Tribes and a few Demi-human tribes like the Lamians which were pushed into doing this kind of thing by their circumstances.
Still, knowing this kind of cruel thing happening in front of him, still feels bitter for some reason. And then, before he knew it, Rain had already started tailing the Minotaurs and planning on how to save the captured women.
Perhaps, they were looking around to find some prey to bring back? Or... women?
Rain wondered as he noticed them wandering around, seemly not having any particular destination unlike what he had expected. Still, he exercised incredible patience, quietly and carefully following the two giant bipedal bulls. He saw them encountering a Mad Boar, and how they easily deal with it.
Strong, though only brute strength and their speed was not even a danger for him. However, the toughness of their hide was incredible. Seeing how they easily stopped a Mad Boar’s charge with their arms alone, and even wrestled it on the floor, before killing it, Rain knows that he would be in for a dangerous battle if he fights them both at the same time.
Still, it’s not like he was helpless.
Strong they may be, they are still weaker than the Goblin Champion he had fought inside the Dungeon. Well, that Goblin Champion is a unique being after all. A mere Minotaur wouldn’t be able to compare against it.
While thinking about plans for his next action, suddenly, a sound of weeping reached his ears. Though, it’s completely different from the voices he had heard from before…
Not children's voices, like the fairies, rather, it’s a woman’s clear voice.
But what made Rain somewhat feel strange, is that this voice didn’t reach his ears, rather, it seemed to be permeating in his mind directly.
As Rain heard it, the Minotaurs he was following also seemed to notice something.
One of the Minotaur said about a monster’s aura- did they not hear the voice, perhaps?
But who could it be?
