V2 Chapter 4

But then suddenly, Lafetti’s words struck Rain.

His brows furrowed.

Dead guy…

“What is he that builds stronger than either the mason, the shipwright, or the carpenter?”

Is it as simple as opening the hidden room? But why that particular riddle? The riddle’s answer is a Grave Digger…Grave…Corpse.

“Grave…that’s right!”

Struck with a realization, his eyes widened and his lips curved upwards.

“What about the Grave?”

“The key is differences from the ordinary. When cases arise, something must be different from usual… pay attention to details, and finding the difference is the first step. It doesn’t matter if it’s something anyone would do or how small it seems. The unusualness is the biggest clue! That’s what I had heard a long time ago…and then here comes the riddle… why is that riddle here in the first place? Why used that kind of riddle just to open this secret room…?”

Rain said as he started walking towards the coffin.

“And besides, though there is a coffin here, there is a corpse that signifies someone is living here and died in here… but don’t you think something is wrong?”

“Something…what? I hardly saw anything wrong here, except that treasure chests full of treasures with a deadman. Locked chest, no key,”

“Yes, I can see that. And that’s also one of the questions. Why is a deadman here…?” Rain said, stopping in front of the coffin. “You see the desk, the chair? The surface is clean with no scratches…even the clothes seemed to be newly made, with no signs of them being used. Not even the chair, not the desk. The treasure remained intact, and no spoiled food either…then, and everything is in order, everything in its rightful place as if it no one had touched it.”

“…?!”

“And now came the great question as to the reason why there is a deadman here. There is a coffin here. A corpse inside, sleeping peacefully…but there is no sign of someone actually living here…that’s the first doubt which confronted me. If this girl was here, trapped inside with nowhere to go with her treasures, then, there must be signs of her staying here—scratched walls, letters, vandalism, anything that could be a sign that she was all alone here…better or for worse, loneliness is the worst companion. It drives even the great men insane…”

“Then, are you saying that someone purposefully left the coffin with a corpse here,”

“…a conjecture, but the most likely. Now then, if this thing is just a prop then, it could only mean one thing—the riddle is the key.” Rain smiled confidently. He was very sure of his conjecture.

“The Key? You mean the answer to the riddle; the Gravedigger?!”

Lafetti’s eyes widened in realization.

“But I don’t think a riddle can open a chest,”

Rain laughed.

“It’s not that kind of key, I’m talking about. The key I meant is about the crucial information that can lead us to that most important key…basically it’s a clue!”

Lafetti’s eyes widened in surprise.

“I got what you are saying. It means the key is somewhere around the grave!”

“Yeah, well at least I think so,” Rain pushed the coffin, and with his strength it was easy. “If my conjecture is right, then, the thing we are looking for is under the ground. Now, time to become a Gravedigger,”

Rain started digging on the ground with bare hands. Fortunately, what he was looking for was not too deep, and a few inches from the surface, a small wooden box was found. “Bingo!”

“Amazing! You’re so smart!” Lafetti laughed as she pulled Rain in a hug. Although she was not really that concerned about the treasure chest, Rain able to think about the problem, and even found the answer when all hope is gone, to her, when thinking, he looked even more handsome and attractive.

He laughed embarrassingly, but his expression couldn’t conceal his true feelings. It was actually nothing- a very elementary problem. However, being praised is not really a bad thing. Not to mention, he was able to show off in front of his lover, which is really a good thing.

While being hugged by Lafetti, he turned his attention back to the small wooden box, and carefully removed the lid, opening it. Then his eyes sparkled as he saw, within was a golden key just like he had expected. At least, no surprises anymore. A few inches long, and its appearance look like those old keys in medieval times.

He took it, and inspected it—it was certainly made out of real gold.

Quite a fancy thing.

“Anyway, let see what kind of treasure is so heavily locked up, shall we?”

Following Rain, Lafetti, Granite, and Scarlet walk towards the last chest. He then began unlocking it with the Golden Key. But suddenly, his eyes widened in shock.

「…Opening treasure chest… Estimated Completion: 20%… 50%…」

What the fuck?! Even this is a Game?!

Rain couldn’t help but admire the creator’s meticulousness in this Dungeon. He/She even made this kind of setting.

「Click!]

The moment the percentage reached 100%, finally the chest was unlocked. He glanced at the key which now had its durability reduced from three to two.

So this is like a Quest Item, not something tangible, and can only be used inside this Dungeon.

And besides… I can still use this two more times. So it means, there should still be locked treasures chests along the way.

Rain carefully stored the golden key into his bag and then turned to see what it is inside the last treasure chest.

A tattered silver bow, designed to resemble a tree branch. Although it looks as if it was made of silver, he was certain that it was surely made from Mythril and some other ore he was not familiar with. And whatever it was, it’s a silver-like wood.

The middle of the bow appears to have been stripped of its outer layers to make it easier to handle. Four golden leaves are present o the bow; three on the lower edge, and one on the upper edge.

[Failnaught --- It doesn’t need arrows because inputting magical power on the bow can automatically generate enchanted arrows while simply pulling the bowstring.

Description: A sealed tattered Spirit Bow. The spirit within is in a deep slumber. It must be awakened, and then it must be smelted with rare metal before it can become new godly equipment! At the moment the Bow’s spirit’s awakening is at 0%!

[ Those who don’t fear shall never miss. ]

“It’s a magical bow…huh,”

Lafetti picked up the bow and started inspecting it from every angle.

“It’s also an Artifact,”

“Artifact?”

“Yeah—magical items mostly found in ruins and dungeons. They are Magical Items that were created a long time ago, and that is far better and stronger than those that can be made in this time.” Lafetti explained while giving back the magical bow.

“Artifacts, those considered to be ancient Magical Items tend to be better than those made currently due to many factors, including [Lost Skills], which techniques and skills that now had been long forgotten after the Lost Century. Furthermore, the [Materials] used which are very rare and precious but now at the current era are already extinct- and well, still many more, other reasons that would suggest that the ancient era was better. Although Artifact is heavily damaged, as you can see, it’s already better than any high-ranking magical weapons we have. And if this was sold in the mainland, it would surely fetch quite a massive wealth, enough to build an entire country.”

That shows how much value it actually possesses. Well, even though it was a great artifact, but not to mention Lafetti and Granite, even the Ant Queen; Scarlet didn’t have any interest in it.

Lafetti and Granite don’t like using bows, while the Ant Queen, although she could, was not fond of using it, and might as well give it to him. She knows that other than the sword, Rain also likes using small knives and bows. Of course, even without saying, he knows what they are thinking about.

With a wry smile, he just set aside the silver bow first and looked for what’s left inside the treasure chest.

At the bottom of the treasure chest sat three things.

One is a piece of paper- a tattered, but a seemly heavily-guarded old book, with a language clearly written in English—which Rain was not surprised anymore. And lastly, a gemstone pendant.

But what caught his attention the most was that single piece of paper—perhaps it was a torn piece from the tattered book? But why is it torn away? Why put it there? And most of all, why does he felt a strange attraction force seemly urging him to pick up that piece of paper?

Rain doesn’t know what material this page was made of. It was as thin as a cicada’s wing and was even a bit transparent. It had dense and difficult text written on it. It’s not even a Language he knew of—not even English for that matter. And for some reason, his [All-Language Comprehension] skill, for the very first time, failed.

He can’t understand it.

He picked it up, then, suddenly a notification chime rang inside his head.

[You have found a mysterious page. It’s a page of a mysterious, legendary book.

Death is My Domain: Gain the ability to increase self-healing by 20% and 10% increase in all physical attributes when surrounded by Death. ]

“What the hell is this broken—?!”

As Rain was startled upon seeing such a godly, broken item, suddenly the piece of paper suddenly emitted a blinding light. And before he knew it, he was swallowed by the light, and he suddenly fainted.

… …

“Rain, are you okay?”

When he woke up again, Rain was greeted by Lafetti and the others looking down at him with confused, but worried faces.

Rain opened his somewhat heavy eyes and his consciousness was still somewhat dim. He then felt as if a heavy boulder was weighing down on him, and this almost made him feel very hard to even breathe. He moved his body but realized he could barely move his body, as his entire body was aching as well as lacking strength.

“What…what happened?”

He put a hand on his forehead and slowly massaged it, feeling the assaulting pain, like a hangover after drinking dozens of bottles just the night before.

“That’s what I want to ask you…just what happened to you? You suddenly fainted,”

Lafetti looked at his eyes with a very concerned gaze, and her usually indifferent expression was filled with worry and anxiety that was clear to all who saw her. She was stroking his hair as if trying to comfort him, and ease whatever pain he had, while her lap was being used as a pillow for his head.

“Fainted? I did?”

Rain frowned, rubbed his temples, and weakly sat down on the ground using all of the strength he had just barely accumulated.

"Yeah,"

Lafetti hurriedly tried to support him. At this moment, his head felt as if was loaded with several pieces of rocks, making him very uncomfortable. However, as time passed by, his consciousness slowly became clearer, and he also began to slowly recover most of the senses of his body. But still, his head was still aching painfully, making his brows furrowed.

“Rain, are you alright?”

Along with Granite, Scarlet also asked. They were surrounding him, and their expression was equally full of worry. Rain suddenly fainting and losing consciousness really shock them. Though, they didn't know what had happened to him, but nevertheless, seeing him regaining consciousness finally made them breathe a sigh of relief.

“I’m fine, only my head is feeling a little uncomfortable, but I don’t know why?”

Rain answered very weakly with a listless appearance. His voice was weak and hoarse that Lafetti and the two girls felt their heart's squeezed in pain hearing the pain coming from him. Just what had happened?

“How long was I out?” he then asked.

“For a while…”

[...Approximately five minutes, Master,]

Lafetti answered simply, while Sylphy who was inside him give him an accurate answer.

“Just what the hell happened…?”

He mumbled as he closed his eyes, trying to recall. Suddenly, he tightly held his head and looking painful, and the entire cave trembled. Even the ground felt as if there was an earthquake occurring, becoming stronger by the passing of time—dirt and rocks started falling from the ceiling.

This was the aftereffect of his power going out of control. And the atmosphere churned, startling Lafetti and the others.

The wind started to blew violently, and his body started emitting weak electric sparks. Hurriedly, Lafetti cupped his head, then, slowly channeled magic power towards him to help him clear and calm his mind.

Among the Elemental Magic in the world, aside from Holy Magic, Water magic actually possess the greatest calming abilities.

Like a soothing wave washing over you, Rain immediately felt his burning and messy mind calming down. He felt as if calm, soothing water was poured into his head from Lafetti’s palm, then the pain on his head immediately subsided by a lot, moreover, he felt a kind of comfortable feeling. He half-closed his eyes, then unconsciously went forward and buried his head into Lafetti’s voluptous bosom, unwilling to move away.

He pasted his face against her skin, all while smelling her simple yet elegant delicate fragrance. And her skin was tender and smooth and was extremely good to touch.

Lafetti finally heaves a sigh of relief. This was this kind of moment where she was very thankful for having a great affinity in water—she had sensed Rain’s troubled and disturbed mind, and if something was not done, she feared something irrevocable happens. And this would certainly not be any good—not to mention, the ground and the entire cave slowly shaking and quivering as afraid.

His mana was leaking violently, and his powers are becoming out of hand.

Lafetti understands best what would happen if that continues. This was not the first time when Rain lost control of his own power.

“Lafetti,”

Only after quite a while did Rain sobered up. He inhaled her presence even as he felt her breasts against his chest; she was the kind of woman who'd always smelled better than any other, helping him to instantly calm down. It was as if her scent had a magical property that immediately calms him down the moment he felt going ballistic.

“It’s okay, calm down…I’m here,”

Lafetti smiled affectionately while caressing his hair with the gentlest move she could. Her fingers barely touched his scalp even, as if afraid of him breaking with her touch. Only his hair, she caressed, consoling and comforting him.

“Take your time, and take a deep breath,” she kissed the top of his head, running her and through his dark hair. It was soft between her fingers, and the smell she had loved and got addicted to lingered around her.

“—That’s right! The page!! That piece of paper!”

Finally, with the help of his mind being cleared, Rain recalled what had occurred just before he had lost consciousness.

“Where is it? Where is that piece of paper? What happened to it?!” he turned towards Lafetti but the latter just look at him with a weird gaze.

“What do you mean by a piece of paper?”

Lafetti placed a palm on his forehead, and her gaze doubtful but also worried. Looking at her, her expression was genuine, and doesn’t seem to be pretending.

He frowned.

“Just what happened to you, Rain? After setting the magical bow aside, you suddenly groaned and then fainted.”

“What…you didn’t see any piece of paper inside the treasure chest?” he asked, doubtful.

“No. No piece of paper, just a gemstone necklace and a locked book,”

Rain glanced at the others but Granite and even Scarlet were looking at him with a confused expression.

What is this?

“Sylphy, was that just a dream? An illusion?”

[No, Master, it’s not. The mysterious piece of paper does exist]

When Rain suddenly doubted his sanity, Sylphy unexpectedly gave such affirmation.

“Are you sure?!”

[Yes, Master. And that piece of Paper is now within you. Though, it seems like the others couldn’t see it. Only Master could]

“What is that paper?”

[Unfortunately, I know not, Master. The information about that item is beyond my current access rights…all I know is that it’s a mysterious item that is directly related to the Goddess of Death. And perhaps, even might be a fragment of a Grimoire. Though, the thing that master should be concerned with at this very moment, is that master had finally accumulated enough stats to break through the 2nd Level]

Although her voice remained somewhat mechanical and somewhat indifferent, Rain who had been used to listening to her was still able to notice that hint of glee and happiness on her voice.

“What?!”

But Rain who had never seen it coming was suddenly struck dumbfounded.

How the hell did he suddenly come to that?
