Chapter 35
“Don’t forget your promise, Rain. You can never leave me,” Lafetti's voice was quite ragged and her chest rose and fell with each breath as if she was enduring something. And Rain was certain he knew what it was, but she just can’t. Not now, when they are leaving so soon.
“I love you, Lafetti…I always will,”
It felt so good to say those words to someone, so deserving and someone he just can’t live without. How warm and comfortable he felt, pressed close to her. He felt her hands touching her, stroking and rubbing his scalp gently, and it was the most comfortable care in the world. Bowing down and burying her face to his neck, she breathed deeply.
“And I love you as well, Rain… only you, I wanted in this world,” she whispered.
She leaned down and kissed his forehead, just like what he always did to her.
Rain smiled happily. The love given by his one and true love is the greatest in the world. He had never felt love before, not as strong as this one, at least. He felt as if he could everything and endure anything just for her. Even if the world is against them, he would not hesitate to choose her over everything and fight the world.
Enjoying Lafetti’s intimate affection, Rain felt her lips moved to his temple, then his cheek. Finally, they slipped down and found his mouth. She kissed him slowly, reverently, her hands resting on the sides of his head, her thumbs lightly touching his cheekbones. Suddenly, her kiss intensified, sending warmth through Rain’s whole body. He slipped his arms around her neck as he felt her familiar tail coiling around him, and held on as though he were falling. He kissed her back, and she responded.
“Ehem,” suddenly, a cough rang out, finally ending the kiss the two shared. When they turned around, Stagna was there with an amused expression; “It’s good that you are very loving, but the others are still waiting. So, if possible, do that after this journey…”
Rain was somewhat embarrassed. But Lafefti didn’t care as she turned her attention back at him. She tucks a stray strand of his hair that has worked its way free and loose after she disheveled them. Rain’s breathe somewhat hitches at the contact, and he leans his head slightly into her fingers. Her eyes soften, and she runs her thumb across his lower lip.
“Don’t forget about your promise…fight only when you are in front of me…and never try to engage foolishly, do you understand?”
“You’re babying him too much, Lafetti…” Stagna’s wry voice rang out.
But Lafetti ignored it and stared at him.
Rain nodded his head, “I know.” Before grabbing the animal fur coat laid on the table. “Let’s go,”
… …
Rain surveyed the group that would attack the Tolant’s Colony or whatever it was called and saw sixteen Lamias wearing armors while holding swords, spears, bows and some weapons he couldn’t identify. Though, most were polearms. Then his head turned towards his side and spotted Lafetti who was standing at his side. Even though he always saw her all the time, and had even had intimate relations with her, but the sight of her still gave him an intense jolt.
Today, Lafetti was dressed in their battle-standard attire. And it was quite a sight to behold as well as a relief that they are not going to fight naked.
Well, as they were always bare whenever they were in a tribe, it was a relief to know that they also had their own style of battle dress as well. At least, for Rain it was a relief. Now, Lafetti was wearing a pareo-like skirt wrapped around her waist. The skirt was russet in color with a leather belt, fastening at the sides. She was wearing a metal armor that looked like that of Greek or Roman gladiator, or more like it’s almost similar to Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman’s attire in her movie.
Quite fascinating to see the resemblance to it.
Completing her ensemble, was the brown wool and leather cloak which had done a good job of keeping the cold away when they would embark on the expedition.
When Rain asks why he hadn’t seen her in this attire before, Lafetti said that this was a battle-attire when going into real battle or war. It’s a custom, as well as a tradition—are they something like descendants of the Amazon? Rain bemused when he heard the explanation.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Looking at her like this, it was a sight to behold, one that could be made into a statue that could be worshipped as a Goddess of War for eternity. It made her look especially valiant and heroic in bearing. She wasn’t wearing a helmet like those Greek warriors in the 300 movie. But her appearance really made her looked like Achilles, a war God… or should it be Athena before a fight starts would be fitting to describe her heroic presence right now…?
In any case, Rain felt he might fall for her all over again.
Can we call this novel ‘My Cool Lamia Wife’? It doesn’t seem to fit placing my name as the title.
I just love my wife!
… …
As soon as Lafetti and Rain arrived, everyone’s gaze immediately turned to them.
Of course not towards Lafetti but to the only celebrity inside the tribe; Rain Revert.
A rather slim youth with a glossy black hair which was stylishly trimmed and his eyes were that uncanny blue which was almost violet. He had magnetism and a mystique making him an arresting man for the women in the tribe—a straight, well-cut nose, fair white complexion, wavy, glossy, black hair that was almost curling at his shoulders, beautiful azure eyes, and petite, feminine frame if compared to any men they had seen before, he was the very picture of a pet they wanted to take home and spoiled a lot.
What’s more, he had this air around him – something indefinable. Sometimes, he appeared brusque, almost uncouth but he had a good character and personality which was unlike the common man. Some of the Lamians had approached him a few times already. And whenever they did, he looks at them, without any problem. And whenever he smiles, the world seemed to brighten even more.
Some of the Lamians sent a confused gaze while wondering why he was here and some stared at him curiously and interestedly. Some stares even gave Rain Goosebumps… especially that one girl who was staring at him like she was a hungry dog and Rain was an expensive steak in front of her… what a manic girl…
Subconsciously, Rain stepped back and grabbed Lafetti’s hand in fear. He was scared that if Lafetti left, leaving him alone, he would be like a bone thrown into a group of rabid dogs… his chastity was in danger!!
Lafetti thought Rain was nervous of his first campaign and her stern expression softened. She squeezed Rain’s hand while the other hand caressed his cheek and then fixed the light armor he was wearing.
“It’s fine, just stay at the back and do not make any unnecessary actions like going at the front…”
Lafetti had already repeated this many times, Rain wondered how Lafetti really saw him. A small child or a mischievous student?
He was like a small kindergartener during a field trip, always being nagged and warned by his teacher, elders, and guardians for not doing any kind of mischievous actions that might disturb others. Do they not know that the more they forbade something the more likely it happens… children are prone to being adventurous, you know.
When they are forbidden to do something the more they liked to do it…
And Rain was also a child, mentally that is…
“Just let all the fighting to us, you, stay at the back and do not act recklessly…”
Rain frowned. What is she saying? He felt like she was saying, stay at the back and just watch the movie… of course, if there was popcorn, eat that and behave. Rain decided to open his other ear and let the river flows silently…
As he was being warned all over, again and again, Rain found Zarda going her way towards them. So, she will also come, well I guessed that’s normal. She was dressed in light armor, almost similar to Lafetti but in blue color, and on her waist was a small sword, probably; a half that of a normal sword and on her hand was a halberd.
Well, she was…
“Wow” Rain unconsciously muttered out aloud.
Lafetti frowned upon hearing what he said and the hand that was holding Rain’s hand suddenly tightened causing Rain to exclaim in pain. She can crush rock easily with her bare hand. Much less, his poor flesh and blood hand.
“What are you doing?!”
Lafetti glared in response before snorting.
“Seems like you are quite ready, we will be leaving now so prepare yourself,” Zarda said with a lovely smile.
“Okay.”
Rain’s simple and honest expression on his face made him seem like a simple youth from the countryside, uncontaminated by city life. He took a deep breath and prepared himself… he can’t make any mistakes or else he would be grounded by Lafetti the next time something like this happened. He needed to show his cool side and let her know that he was never the type to take it easy. That he also has some tough bones in his body. Even Thanos might get beaten up by him if he showed up here!
Looking at Rain’s serious expression, Zarda was amused and almost let out a laugh. “Rain, you will be staying with me for the entire trip, of course, only until we had located the Queen. That way, you will be safe till then, you don’t have any complaints, right…?”
“Actually, I have,”
Staying in the center would mean he would be protected by the entire team and of course meant no time to show off. He might as well stay in the back than staying in the center group… in that way, some monsters or even injured ones might still reach him. But in the centerline? No way is that ever going to happen!
In a play of chess, a King is always being protected heavily not letting any enemies get near!
That’s simple logic.
Rain immediately understood that trouble was about to befall him, and quickly exhibited a panic-stricken appearance. He tried to protest, appeal whatever he could think of even to the point of showing puppy eyes but unfortunately, it failed.
“No can do. This is your first campaign, Rain… and you had already tasted the danger of the Tolants personally. If you want to come with us, then you need to listen,” Zarda declared with a faint smile, mischief painted in her eyes.
Lafetti also frowned since she felt some kind of strange intentions from Zarda but since Zarda’s proposition is indeed the best option, she chases all the strange feelings and nodded her head in agreement.
Rain’s safety is the most important thing for her.
But Rain adamantly refused… albeit, unfortunately, a mere slave has no say in this matter.
