V2 Chapter 16

“HOW DARE YOU!!!! HOW DARE YOU!!!! HOW DARE YOU!!!!”

Lafetti’s enraged voice echoed in the entire mausoleum. And her enraged form- Like a raging lioness, assaulted the Goblin Champion with violent, storm-like slashes.

One notable characteristic of a Lamian’s attack was the flexibility that enables them to attack and dodge at any angle as if they had no bones in their bodies when they move. And even more so, was their sheer speed that seemed to have been born through their unnatural flexibility that looked like a power that came from a released spring, as their non-stop assault would leave no opportunity for the opponent to counter, which always had turned the match into a solo performance.

And at this very moment, Lafetti had completely showcased what it means when a Lamian fights for real.

“HOW DARE YOU HURT MY RAIN!!! I’LL KILL YOU!!! I’LL KILL YOU!!!”

Everything was tinted with red as she glared at the monster in front of her, the detestable bastard that made her treasure spat out blood. This bastard she so wanted to cut into pieces!!

Both the Goblin Champion and Lafetti were actually evenly matched.

Despite the disadvantage Lafetti had in terms of weapon, not too long later, the Goblin Champion was slowly losing its advantage, due to the absurd and incomprehensible boost in strength and speed the berserk Lamian had suddenly gained out of nowhere.

A good amount of times Lafetti had almost been swat by the Goblin Champion's large weapon, but she would also dodge to the side at the most crucial moment. In fact, the way she dodged, was like how Rain had done a while ago when he was fighting the Goblin Champion, though the only difference is that, unlike his uncanny speed, prediction, and agility, Lafetti was doing it by taking advantage of her incredible flexibility.

It's as if there were no bones in her body as she bent her body in incredibly, awkward angles and moments. After that, she would retaliate by stabbing and slashing her opponent.

If not for the Monster's strange, tough physique, it would have been cut by Lafetti's sword many times over.

However, this only fueled the Lamian's anger even more.

At this moment, Lafetti’s beautiful face was replaced with an extremely scary visage of a serpentine monster. More so, she was like a demon-possessed as she attack the Goblin Champion relentlessly. Each time she disappeared and reappeared, she would attack from almost every direction with her sword that emitted an incredible thick killing aura that doesn't lose out to the Monster emitted.

Her sword danced as it flew through the air.

The sounds of it traveling through the air could be heard clearly. The Goblin Champion countered with its weapon, taking advantage of his large build, tough physique, and powerful weapon. But unexpectedly, it was slowly getting pushed back by the enraged Lafetti, completely being overwhelmed in terms of speed and power. Then, she repelled the incoming strike from the monster with her sword, and followed it with her tail, lashing at the Goblin Champion’s chest like a whip, sending it flying.

The Goblin Champion was blown away with an agonizing roar, and hit the wall, with a strong impact that even caused the entire Mausoleum to shake, and the wall caving in despite it being almost indestructible.

But still, despite having power that should be enough to crush its armor, the Lamian’s attack only left a small crack on it, and it once again rose, even angrier—

Too tough!

Rain almost cried that out in shock.

Was this monster actually a relative of the Incredible Hulk?!

Seeing it, Rain almost instinctively shouts, looking at the completely sturdy monster.

The angrier it becomes, the stronger its power becomes as well, or at least that’s what Rain thought. Though, he noticed a crimson mist coming from the weapon, and seeping through the monster’s body—so, probably, the weapon was the one who is their true enemy this time.

Not to mention, its armor as well seemed to also be a high-grade magical armor.

This monster is actually heavily armed as this?!

Even still, although Rain truly wanted to continue thinking about it, he had an even more serious problem. Lafetti was even angrier after seeing the Goblin Champion once again standing up.

“You…!! How dare you hurt my Rain!!! I’ll tear you apart!!”

The anger she was holding seemed to have manifest physically, as a water-like tornado appeared, revolving around her.

Even the Ant Queen who had already entered her third Evolution was having a hard time bearing it down, much less Granite who was only a second. Although both were surprised by Lafetti’s losing out of control, the anger that Lafetti exhibited overwhelmed them more than they thought.

On another note, Rain who should have been the weakest, however, didn't feel anything though. Which is completely absurd, and weird, by the way. But sadly, no one had the time to notice it, much less, think about why.

The strength and anger of a second, but already was on the verge of awakening to the third Evolution of a Lamian was more powerful than even a third Evolution Ant Queen. In fact, due to them being a race of magic, Lamians were far stronger than normal monster species.

This was also the reason why they were being feared not only by the human race but also the other races such as Elves, Dwarves, Werebeasts, and many more. Among the countless and varied Monster Tribe, Lamians are treated as one of the most powerful of existence, that they are almost equivalent to royalties in human civilization.

Even a Killer Ant, no matter how level they had reached, wouldn’t be able to rival that.

Hence, even with her high level, and rank, the Ant Queen; Scarlet ever since she assimilated herself in the village, didn’t have that much standing. After all, although she can stand rival in status with a normal Lamian, against elites with second Evolution, she needed a four to the fifth stage of the Evolution rank.

Although the strength varies, and she can say that she was much stronger than normal Second Evolution Lamian, but the bloodline restraint was what matters. Especially against the Amani Lamian Tribe, who is said to be the direct descendant of the Lamian Ancestor; Medusa.

When the Ant Queen learned that there was a Medusa, she was horrified and even started to regret greatly what she had done. Although she knows that there are Lamians in this place, but a Monster King, Medusa- she didn’t know about Zarda's existence. Not like her soldiers have that much intelligence to mention that such a horrifying monster that could not afford to be provoked was in this hell-like place, anyway.

Why would a royal-like being, almost has the same standing as that of the Demon Lord lived in this kind of place?

No one would even think about that. Furthermore, she was so arrogant and confident when she had obtained a God’s Blessing; hence she thought she was so powerful.

But a Lamian Medusa was different.

Since someone had awakened the Medusa bloodline among them, it means the village was a direct descendant of the Medusa who terrified the entire world a long time ago.

[Medusa] can be said to be one of the Ancestors of the monsters of the current era. Hence, having a dense bloodline of an ancestor could suppress most monsters, especially those of weak and insignificant races.

A Lamian’s full-powered anger was still too much for the Ant Queen.

The Ant Queen, Scarlet, despite the huge pride engraved in her bones, even she had an impulse of kneeling while trembling. This is a testament to how Bloodline is so important in this world.

“I’LL KILL YOU!!! I’LL FUCKING KILL YOU!!!”

“Lafetti!! That’s enough!!”

Rain rushed towards Lafetti, but Granite suddenly appeared in front of him, immediately stopping him.

“Granite, let me go!! Can’t you see?! Lafette, she—”

“I know, but you can’t approach her right now! She’s gone berserk! She wouldn’t be able to recognize you! If you approach her now, she would attack you!”

Granite had already seen one of their sisters losing control of themselves and had seen the result of it.

The tragedy had been an unforgettable one, that is why she had always exercised emotional control. However, among them, Lafetti was the worst. And not only her, truthfully many of the Lamians in the tribe known that.

Lafetti had always been among the Lamians with emotional control issues. In fact, one can even say, she’s too a genuine person. True to herself, and a complete reflection of her own heart.

Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.

She likes what she likes, and she would try getting it whatever it takes. Even if anyone would try to dissuade her, she would never listen and would still do as she wants without listening to any advice or persuasion. And because of that, she’s prone to easily become berserk.

Zarda even says that among the Lamians, Lafetti is one among those who had the purest blood, and has characteristics of a true Lamian, resembling their ancestors.

Although, because of this blood, she gets more power and strength than normal Lamians, (that's why despite being one of the should be the youngest generation, she was considered one the elite strongest in the tribe) and also one of the main reasons why she had become one of the protectors of the tribe along with Stagna and Drova despite her age. But this also caused her to become extremely risky to go berserk.

And if she did, she would truly become troublesome.

… …

“This is?!”

Zarda who was lying on the couch while talking with Arfa suddenly reacted and stood up, turning her gaze with eyes widening in shock.

The blood inside her body was boiling, and she knows just what cause of it could be.

Someone is triggering the blood awakening forcefully.

But who could it be?!

“What happened?”

Arfa asked with a curious expression after seeing a horrified expression on his old friend.

“Someone was invoking a blood awakening forcefully…!”

Zarda who held the densest blood of the Medusa was extra-sensitive to the maters of her kin.

Just who?

Wait, suddenly her eyes widened in shock, and her body shivered as a realization struck her.

That direction…

Isn’t that direction where Rain and the others should be?!

“What had happened?!”

Zarda immediately slithered towards the door. Her heart throbbing and a bad premonition surge through her heart.

Did something happen to Rain?

There should be no monster strong enough in this forest to push Granite or Lafetti into becoming berserk!

The Dungeon?

Just what had happened?!

“Drova! Stagna…!!”

… …

The entire Mausoleum squeaked and seemed to be trembling.

Even the fearless Goblins hurriedly run away, panicking and frantic.

“Stop it, Lafetti!! Stop it!! Let me go, damn it! Granite! I said let me go!!”

Rain glared at Granite with a very fierce expression, causing the rock Lamian to become stunned. Her face immediately became pale. She never wanted Rain to hate her, even just the thought of it terrifies her.

Because of that, she instinctively let him go.

The moment she did, without any hesitation, Rain rushed towards Lafetti.

“Rain!!”

Granite’s eyes widened. Still, she immediately chased after him. But his speed was faster than she could imagine, which, for some reason, was in fact, much faster than his previous speed form before.

Furthermore, because Rain had yelled at her with a fierce expression a while ago, she became scared of stopping him again and once again being yelled at by him.

What if Rain would hate her because of this?

Such thoughts appeared inside her mind. And because of this, before she realized it, Rain had already left her behind. She then saw him jumping in the air, disappearing, and then appearing beside the Goblin Champion and kicked its head while saying ‘Get Lost! I have no time with you, you fucker!!’ and was once again the monster sent flying away.

But Rain didn’t care about it, and immediately turned his attention to the raging Lafetti.

“Lafetti, I’m here,”

Rain said with a gentle smile. However, the only response he got was a loud yell of; ‘I’ll Kill you!!!’ and then, the water tornado around her started wriggling, and then turning into translucent water snakes, roughly four or five, or perhaps even more as they wriggled around like water bodies.

Her anger seemed to take physical form as the water snakes writhed about her.

“HOW DARE YOU!!!”

She once again let out a shout and the water snakes immediately shot towards Rain.

Rain immediately jumped to the side, not daring to take it head-on.

“Jeez, when did you start using tentacles!? You can’t possibly be thinking of using that in bed, are you? Although I won’t mind, I prefer being the one doing it, rather than the receiving end,”

He said with a light and mischievous tone, seemly trying to lighten the mood.

“Get out of my way!! I’ll kill him! I’LL FUCKING KILL HIM!!!”

“I know, you will.”

Rain said. Then, suddenly he stopped dodging. The Water Snake noticed this, and immediately went straight at him, its sharp, water-like fangs wide open, seemly trying to devour him. Even Granite and Scarlet who saw this scene immediately cried out in fear and anxiety, but they too were attacked by the water serpents.

Nevertheless, Rain had ignored them, as all his attentions were locked on his, slightly mischievous and troublesome lover.

He can hear the cries and warnings from behind him. However, he still didn’t make a move, and instead, just look at the incoming water serpent flying towards him.

When everyone thought he was going to be eaten, suddenly, the water serpent brushed past him and hit the ground next to him instead.

“Aaaaaaah!!!!”

Lafetti let out a guttural roar at Rain. Her beautiful face now covered with emerald scales, looking almost like that of a Lizardman. Her red, ruby eyes gleamed ominously, and full of killing intent. However, although she looked eerily horrifying, to Rain’s eyes, she’s still the most beautiful woman in the world.

“You will kill him, I know that, Lafetti.”

Tap! Tap! Tap!

Rain continued walking towards Lafetti. Another water serpents appeared and bared their fangs at him, then they shot towards him like before. They wriggled as if alive and attacked simultaneously from eight directions at once. However, Rain still walks towards her.

But just like before, the water serpents only brushed past him, as if he was protected by an invisible barrier,

"WHY...? WHY CAN'T I HIT YOU?! wHY WON'T THEY HIT?!"

"Are you actually, really trying to hit me? That's domestic violence, you know,"

“SHUT UP!!”

"I won't. Rather, remember who I am, Lafetti. I am coming over to you,"

"D, DON'T COME NEAR! I SAID...-!"

"I know you're angry... fury burns in you... and I can feel that. I also want to kill that bastard, you know,"

Lafetti growled, but she couldn’t help but step back. For some unknown reason, her attacks are not hitting him, and this causes her to feel somewhat apprehensive. Though never had appeared in her mind that Rain didn’t do anything, instead, Lafetti was the one unconsciously avoiding hurting him.

Well, in her current state, able to realize that would be impossible.

“But not like this. I want you to kill him in a better manner than this…calmer as always, if possible. Together,”

With a final tap, Rain had already appeared in front of her. He smiled calmly, gently. He reached out his hand towards her, but she was much faster.

His voice had barely faded when he saw the emerald shine on her scales flashed in front of him. Her hand swept with a ‘woosh’ as it came towards him; it was aimed at his throat.

The air also echoed with a ‘woosh’ sound…

Still, Rain ignores it and didn’t even try to dodge. And she easily grabbed his neck. Though he already felt suffocated from her strangling him, his brows didn’t even frown.

In that hell one step away from death, his eyes met with hers. As always, he had a slight smile on his face as he looks at her.

It was the same smile always had.

It was as if he were saying everything was alright.

And it really is,

“So…come back,” Rain’s hand gently stroke Lafetti’s face. And through the extremities of his fingers, he immediately felt her body shivered upon his touch. Even the hand clutching his throat loosened, and he found himself able to breathe once again. And he smiled, taking the opportunity, and pulled her into a hug.

“I won’t let you go somewhere far, far from my reach—” he whispered in her ear.

"So you better wake up! You're killing your husband, you know!"

He felt her body trembled. The hand that grabbed her shoulders painfully, trying to break free from his hand, softening, and eventually, they fell on each side of her.

“I promised, remember? I said I would never let you leave me…you already gave your word to never leave my side as well, so I will make you uphold that promise, even if through forceful means.”

“…Yes…you did.”

Suddenly, a gentle voice reaches him.

Hearing it, Rain’s body tightened with relief, and his lips curved into a smile. He then saw the green scales covering Lafetti’s body started retroceding, and disappearing into her skin, seemingly being absorbed by her. His heart immediately calm down.

“You made me worried,”

Lafetti narrowed her eyes as the man she loved held her in his arms.

She looked happy.

She looked truly happy.

“No, you made me worry,”

Rain smiled wryly.

“Jeez, isn’t it going too far by losing yourself? You scared the hell out of me there,”

“If I did scare you, then you better not do something like that again in the future…if something happened to you, even if my soul burns in hell,”

Lafetti furrowed her brows, and an icy cold glint flashed her serpentine eyes. At this time, her beautiful face had already somewhat returned back, though there were still some scales left, especially in her neck, those too had started to fade.

“I will make sure I will kill anyone who dares to hurt you!”

“But even that happens, I don’t want you forgetting who you are. Or else, if you do otherwise, I will hate you, you know… I will really get angry...like really, really get angry!”

Lafetti was surprised by Rain’s words and her body stiffened. Her eyes wavered, and her face paled-just the notion of being hated by him, like the world ending, made her want to die.

Her heart squeezed tightly it hurts. Her expression turned sullen, and her eyes looked at him anxiously. Because of this, his serious expression immediately crumbled, easing into a gentle one.

When she became like this, Rain can never continue being angry. It seems like he’s really too soft on her.

“Rain…”

“That’s why don’t ever do this again…please,”

Sinking his fingers into her hair, he held her captive against his body. His mouth met hers. Lafetti was somewhat surprised, but her expression slowly eased, and she finally responded, eagerly.

“If I lose you, I don’t know what to do,” he dusted her face with kisses… her cheeks, her brows, the shiny, cold scales on her cheeks and neck.

“That same goes for me too… I don’t want you being hurt Rain… you charging into danger without any hesitation, worried me to death. I almost felt my heart stopped watching you fight…”

Lafetti delved her hands into his hair. She then started stroking his head with a loving expression.

“Ahm, I’m sorry to say this, but can you do this another time? Did you forget where you are?”

Scarlet’s annoying voice broke the pinkish atmosphere between them in an instant. It was then followed by a loud explosion somewhere.
