V2 Chapter 29

Completely unaware of Scarlet’s feelings, Rain was desperately thinking about the situation.

Seeing the circumstances up until now, he was certain that this should have been the last wave. But can they do it? And what kind of Mage-type Leader appeared? Could they finish it till the end?

As he was thinking of a plan to do, finally…

“…”

(It…stopped?)

The relentless bombardment finally stopped. Perhaps the Mage had already depleted its magic power? If it did, this should be the time to strike!

Rain hurriedly stood up from Scarlet’s arms, and then surveyed the entire mausoleum. Now the entire place has been covered with clouds of dust and dirt, and the entire mausoleum was overwhelmed with complete silence.

Well, that’s not surprising. After being bombarded by at least, twenty to thirty minutes, the entire place would be wrecked completely.

“Rain, are you okay?”

Lafetti and Granite slid over, though they looked fine, their appearance was in a complete mess.

“I could ask the same thing about you two. Are you two alright?”

“Well, that got my heart jumping out from my chest, split my head, and bones were broken…but nevertheless, I’m alright,” Granite said with a burst of boisterous laughter.

No that’s not alright at all!!

Rain wanted to retort, but before he could, he suddenly saw her expression changed.

“But we’re in a pickle,” her brows then furrowed together as her expression turned serious.

Rain frowned and turned towards the directions she was looking at. Under the heavy, thick clouds of dust, smoke, and dirt, he could see several silhouettes standing behind it.

When the bothersome clouds of dust and smoke thinned down from the sudden wind, he can finally saw their true appearance. Although they were still normal strengthened Goblin Elites like the others, what caught Rain’s attention was the four figures that stand in front of them.

They all wore black hooded robes, tattered and old, but still give a strange, mysterious vibe. Two of them were even wearing skulls of large canine-like beasts, while on their neck were necklaces made from bones and skulls of beasts and humans alike.

One of them had its hands raised upward, though depending on the Magic Power that Rain can feel around it, he was certain that the fireball bombardment that had happened just a while ago was this robed Goblin’s doing.

Are those Goblin Mages?

“So the leader this time are Goblin Mages?”

“If it’s only that simple, Rain,”

Lafetti said with a grave voice.

“The problem is not the Goblin Mage, but the ones behind them. The Goblin Shaman Lords…!”

“Goblin Shaman Lords?”

“Ah… and to make matters worse is that there were two Goblin Shaman Lords and two high ranking Goblin Mages. This is a grave situation. I can’t even laugh about this now.”

Rain frowned. Lafetti and Granite would never say this kind of thing, much less wore this kind of expression when in battle. After all, they are prideful, and they are always confident that they would win regardless of the number of enemies, or the enemies themselves. But to think they would show that kind of anxiety.

“Are Goblin Shaman Lords strong?”

Lafetti smiled wryly; “If you say that they are strong, then they are indeed strong. But still, normally they would not pose a threat to us, even if there are two Goblin Shaman Lords. However, our current situation doesn’t give that much leeway for us.”

“…??”

“Goblin Shaman Lords own physical power, and defense is not something needs to be feared. However, their offensive power and their troublesome abilities make them even more dangerous than a Goblin Champion…especially in our current situation.” Granite said.

“Look…”

Rain turned back his attention at them and saw an incredible scene. When one of the skull-wearing Goblin Shaman raised his hands, eerie dark mist started to come out from them and the dead Goblins that were littered on the ground, started to move, becoming alive like freaking zombies from a horror movie.

“They are reviving the dead?”

“Not so far as reviving the dead. Although they look like necromancers, they are not. Shamans employed the dead to do their bidding, but there is always a time limit. They cannot shackle the dead for long… but in this situation where Goblins would never stop appearing, adding an undead would make everything worse.”

“I think I understand why you are worried,”

“Right? What’s even worse is that the undead is the least of our problems. Goblin Shaman Lords have many strange curses and hexes that make you weaker, and suffer—even poisons would be much better to take than them. In a normal battle, they are the most priority target to kill first, if not even an easy battle would become a nightmare. But in our current condition, that would be harder to accomplish… it’s not like they are going to offer their head obediently. What’s even worse this time is that there are two Goblin Shaman Lords, and two high ranking Goblin Mages.

“Two deadly nuke-grade Mages, two nightmare Shamans, and an army of Goblin… this is indeed already above a nightmare… what do we do?” Rain smiled wryly.

Against this kind of situation, even with his preparation, it would just be delaying the inevitable. And the end, even Thanos had already foreseen a long time ago. The outcome is already indeed inevitable.

Lafetti and the others are almost reaching their limits, and even if Rain can still fight due to her [Death is my Domain] ability that helps him recover his energy, health, magic power, and stamina faster than normal, with his own current strength, it would not matter at all.

Should I increase my level? No, too late… if I did that, all my stats would return to the beginning, and I will might become weaker than I am now…

“We don’t have a choice…”

Lafetti gripped the hilt of her sword with a serious expression.

“Don’t worry Rain, even if I die, I will surely make sure that you can leave this place safely!”

“And that’s supposed to make me relieve?”

Rain frowned.

“If you die here, Lafetti, then I will accompany you on the road. You’re not living me here alone… it’s all of us surviving, or all of us dying…that’s all there is to it!”

The tone of his wordings had been was very dull. But the heroic spirit contained in them had stirred the three women.

Lafetti smiled faintly, and there is an obvious thick affection coming from her eyes. Even Granite and Scarlet were the same as they stared at him. However, although they were happy about it, his words only steeled their resolve to make sure that Rain could return safe and sound, even if it means their death.

Scarlet is afraid of death, but she still steeled herself, while Granite would not even care if she dies. In any case, if she indeed managed to return, and the others learned that something bad happened to Rain, she would still be killed. Well, not like she would return without Rain, though.

She would kill herself before something could even happen to him.

“Stop getting all so gloomy now…all we need to do is fight, fight, and fight until we drop. Simple and clear, doesn’t it?” Granite said with a fearless grin.

“Whether we die today, or we survive till the bitter end, the present doesn’t matter. We enjoy the moment!”

Rain’s lips curved upwards.

If having people like them by my side will kill me… then, I would be happy to die with a smile…

“You are making me cry, Granite… since you said that, you better stand in front of me, and protect me with all your might. And you might as well, should do that forever,” he said with a mischievous tone.

“…if that’s what you wanted,” Granite grinned. “You better stand behind me, and never leave! No matter what it is, I’ll protect you from any enemies!”

Playing along with him, though, the resolution behind those words, not even Rain could understand or measure.

“No time to talk!”

Suddenly, Lafetti’s expression turned grim. The Goblins once again started to run towards them. but this time, all of them have those eerie dark mists floating around their body, and their bodies, for some strange reason, expanded in a horrifying volume that nerves could even be seen coiling around their skin like massive earthworms.

They look berserkers that had been injected with chicken blood.

The Goblin Shaman’s annoying enhancement skills!

Suddenly, while Rain was trying to think of a plan he suddenly snapped out of from his thoughts and began shooting with his bow.

Rabid wolves suddenly appeared charging at them at an incredible speed. Though, they look nothing like normal wolves but instead, more like undead wolves; red-eyes, rotten stench, and hairless bodies. No matter how you look at them, they look disgusting.

“Awooo~~!”

Following the wolf howl.

Countless undead wolves charged out towards them, all of them strengthened elites or mini-boss level enemies. Not only had that, in the air, flying monsters also appeared. Giant bats to be exact—though, not undead, but certainly not ordinary monsters. Sylphy guessed they might be Shaman Familiars.

Bats in the air, and Goblins and Undead in the ground. They both have the air and the land supremacy. The worst line-up they could encounter at this moment.

“Prepare for battle!!”

“This could be tiresome,”

“That’s why I hate dealing with Goblin Shaman Lords. They are annoying as hell to fight with.”

Lafetti scowled in annoyance.

“If we can’t kill those damn bastards immediately, things would become out of hand. But killing them amidst all this would be…”

A Goblin Shaman's spells are weedy and irritating, but dangerous. What’s even worse is that they are even more cagey and cunning, if no less odd compared to normal Goblin or Goblin Mages.

In fact, in the outside world, any fools that oppose a Goblin Shaman Lord are apt to suffer nasty rashes, mysterious beetle infestations or some other wicked malady. In battle, Goblin Shamans turn their spiteful spells towards slaying, or at least annoying, the foe. These spells are more subtle than their larger kin's, but no less effective.

That is why, despite not being offensively strong, they are still ones that no one wants to fight against.

Even Lafetti and the others didn’t like fighting against annoying opponents like them.

“Raaaahhhh!!!”

Granite directly charged at the enemy lines, blocking countless monsters with her black shield. Then, her enormous weapon swung. Every swing sent countless flying, and with a thought, rock spikes came out from the ground, skewering countless.

She helped to reduce the pressure on the others have. Even with all this though, the undead wolves and the Goblins appeared endless, coming in bigger and bigger numbers.

A water tornado whirled around Lafetti, and with a wave of her hand, an enormous wave shot out from her, sending several hundred undead wolves flying away. Hundreds didn’t manage to get back up, but another wave of monsters immediately replaced them. Her eyes flashed once again, and the area around them, encapsulating each and one of them in a protective shield of water.

Scarlet, on the other hand, hurriedly cast her magic spell. Although she can’t use magic often, she needed to use it now to clear the battlefield. Blazing flames gathered in her hands again, and she summoned a rain of fire, which almost covered an entire 10 meter area. She made another grasping motion, and it was then followed by a series of loud and deafening explosions.

Rain once again used his magic, his body floating in the air, and his eyes flashing in bright, azure light. He conjured mana balls, along with lightning bolts and started shooting the flying undead monsters first.

With swift mini-tornadoes, he dealt with the giant bats and wreaked havoc on the battlefield once again. But his magic only lasted for a few minutes, as it was immediately destroyed by an impact almost similar to his, but stronger, and larger—startling even him.

He turned towards the source, only to see the Goblin Mage wearing a tattered robe, pointing at him. Strange mutterings coming out from its mouth, and then a strong, violent gale struck him.

“Rain!!”

“I’m fine!”

Rain felt the impact of the wind—although it looked like a normal wind, they were actually wind blades mixed in.

[Blade Tornado] a high-rank spell in the wind-system magic.

Fortunately, Rain was protected with Lafetti’s Water Barrier, if not, even if he was able to protect himself, it would still be difficult for him to leave unscathed.

Even though he had a massive amount of magic power for his level, it doesn’t mean he was already a good magician. In fact, in the field of magic, he would lose to a true 2nd level Mage, even if he had an incredible amount of magic power. In terms of raw power as a mage, these elite Goblin Mages are obviously above him.

There’s more to magic than having an insane amount of it.

Of course, having a good amount of magic power is better, as it is a great advantage. But if one doesn’t know how to utilize it, then, it would only become a disadvantage instead. Just like in his case.

Rain roared loudly and immediately gathered the wind around him—although he can conjure a similar tornado but mixing wind blade and tornado, a composite magic is much harder than it looks. And he has yet to completely understand how it truly works; hence, he can only use basic magic, though stronger than normal.

This might be late to mention but all of his Magic is what they call [Origin Magic] one that is formed through the user’s imagination, while humans and most of the magic users in this world use what they call [Systematic Magic System]. One that is already considered an orthodox, or commonly used.

Most of the Lamians used this kind of systematic magic, due to convenience and lower magic consumption.

The examples of this Magic are basic Magic system; [Wind Blade] [Fireball] [Water Ball] [Blaze] [Water Wave] and such. These are the magic system that had been widely spread and had been used and studied by Mages in this world.

Rain’s Magic is taught by no one, and it was all that he had created himself. Although it’s not uncommon, nevertheless, only a few can do it—and also, this is also granted by the ability to be able to use chartless magic.

Zarda and the others can also do it like him, but mostly they stick to using common magic spells. This proves that [Origin Magic] is not applicable to all, and in fact, much less popular than [Systematic Magic].

Well, this also attributes to the fact that this world doesn’t have much ‘deeper knowledge’ than otherworlders such as Rain. And that their mindset, as well as imagination, is very constrained and limited.

Even still, one of the problems of [Origin Magic] is its unpredictability, as well as massive Magic Power Consumption.

[Origin Magic] due to it yet to become thoroughly honed and mastered, needed a large amount of Magic Power to use. Unlike the [Systematic Magic] that had been sharpened and simplified throughout the long history of Magic, and had been through the hands of many geniuses- [Origin Magic], even if it succeeded would still have many things and angle to be adjusted. Hence, it’s inevitable that one would waste magic power when using it.

“Lightning Chain.”

Rain waved his hand and along with the movement of his magic power, two thick and long lightning chains appeared in midair. The lightning chains swept towards the nearby monsters with ferocity. Along with some rumbling sounds, the lightning chains swept everything into dust.

They left behind scorched corpses and burned ground. Rain grit his teeth, and felt the rebound coming from using his magic, still, he grits his teeth and endured the wrecking pain, swinging the lightning chains towards the place where the Goblin Shaman Lords are.

However, before it could hit the Goblin Shaman Lords, the lightning chains seemed to have struck an invisible wall.

Damn it! They are protected by a Barrier?!

Rain assaulted the barrier with his lightning chains, while Lafetti and the others were fighting desperately in the ground. However, even before he was able to make a crack on the barrier, he had reached his limit. The lightning chains disappeared with a cackled burning air, and he slowly descended in the ground, breathless.

“Rain, don’t attack from afar. The Goblin Mages would not let that succeed!” Lafetti said.

“But with this number of monsters, it would be nigh impossible to reach the Goblin Shamans in the ground!”

Rain pulled out a Magic Potion from his backpack. Then, he poured the potion down his mouth. gulp gulp The blue liquid passed through his throat, and he immediately felt his magic power surging through him again. Since it was the highest level Mana Potion, just one bottle was enough to completely undo his fatigue, and fill him with magic power again.

“We can’t rush things here, Rain. It would only endanger yourself if you try to hasten things…”

“But we don’t have that much time to waste, Lafetti. The longer this battle goes, the lower the chances of our victory!” Rain let out a sigh. “We need to kill the Goblin Shamans and Mages as soon as possible.”

“If only that’s easy…”

Lafetti was also starting to feel the pressure. It would have been nothing if it was before when she didn’t have Rain. She wouldn’t even care if she dies fighting. However, now that her life was basically tied to his, the former cold Lamian felt anxiety in a battle for the very first time.

If they lose, he would die. Just the thought of it made her crazy. However, no matter how much she tried to think of a solution, the situation is still dire.

But what should I do?
