Volume 7 - Chapter 7: Zephyr

Frednutter watched the fight unfold, eventually, Bonifacius managed to get the civilian out of immediate danger.

“Thou intend to remain in the gang leading this town, correct?” asked Bonifacius.

“Damn right I am!” Frednutter exclaimed planting another weak punch to Bonifacius’ face.

Bonifacius looked up to meet the man’s gaze.

“Then thou should take thy people somewhere safe, correct?” he asked gesturing to the injured person at his feet.

He looked down at the badly injured human only to see them missing.

“I have to admit, I’m very interested in you, shield-user,” remarked the blue-white haired dagger user.

Unlike before he wasn’t wearing the assassin outfit, he wore a plain white blouse with a brown vest over it.

He wore dark brown trousers, though a bloodstain was visible on his ass.

Covered in a fair amount of blood, the assassin left the presumably-dead MilkmanTim and approached the ass-wound assassin.

“Zephyr, what are you doing out here? Dressed like a peasant might I add…” she remarked jokingly.

He scratched the back of his head.

“I took a week off,” he shrugged.

“It’s pretty difficult to fight with a bleeding asshole,” he added.

“And no potion does the trick… the wound just opens up…”

That’s when the female assassin glanced up and saw the previously trapped civilian placed over his shoulder.

“Why do you have to go and make things more complicated than necessary,” she sighed looking over to Bonifacius who stepped forward, slowly allowing the roof to fall down.

“Thou have my gratitude, ass-assassin!” Bonifacius exclaimed.

The man turned towards Bonifacius.

“My name’s Zephyr, dagger and seal class, quit calling me ass-assassin!” he didn’t look all that upset.

“Also, don’t thank me, I’m on holidays right now, so it’s to be expected I won’t fight you,” he added with a smile.

The female assassin walked up to Frednutter, kicking him through a small wall.

“There, now the trash is out of the way!” she said smugly.

Bonifacius turned to Zephyr.

“I see, thou still have my thanks!” Bonifacius pulled his blade out.

Zephyr smirked.

“Fair enough,”

Bonifacius stood up.

“I shall make this quick!” he exclaimed.

In an instant, Bonifacius flew forward, his shield slamming into the unsuspecting assassin.

She tried to retaliate by stabbing Bonifacius only for the shield stance to block her attacks.

She landed against a stone wall causing the impact to do a fair amount of damage.

She shadow-stepped behind Bonifacius, dagger in hand.

She slashed at his throat, she didn’t expect him to react by headbutting her, as such, she missed her strike.

A red circle now appeared on her forehead from where their heads collided.

Blood began to streak from her nose as she shadow-stepped a few meters away before stumbling and falling to the ground.

Bonifacius began to head her way.

“Looks like she finally managed to reach the bad side of the shield-user…” Zephyr remarked seeing Bonifacius’ grim expression, he was watching the entire fight from the rooftops up until recently.

Bonifacius approached her.

She looked back, jumping to her feet before shadow-stepping half the distance she did before and once again falling to the ground.

“Thou would endanger they own people…” he began.

She didn’t respond, only crawled away.

“Get… away from me!” she commanded throwing a dagger in Bonifacius’ vague direction.

“I can spare no more mercy for thee!” Bonifacius exclaimed.

The assassin tried to crawl away; not enough stamina left for another shadow-step.

Bonifacius stepped closer.

“H-hold on…” she pleaded.

Bonifacius continued.

“I told you to hold on!” she exclaimed.

“Look, I swear I’ll stop being an assassin! You have my word!” she crossed her fingers behind her back, though Bonifacius didn’t care.

He simply continued to approach her.

“Weren’t you opposed to murder?! Is it alright for you to kill people?!” she demanded.

Her mind-games didn’t work on Bonifacius who simply continued to walk forward.

He placed his shield away, keeping his sword out.

“Ah, I see… so all your kindness is reserved to innocents! I see!” she exclaimed.

Bonifacius lifted his blade into the air above her head.

The female assassin closed her eyes.

“I’ll be back for your heads when I respawn-” she was cut off.

Zephyr looked away.

He was met with a feeling of confusion as the loud clank could be heard.

He spun back around seeing his comrade wasn’t decapitated but knocked out with the flat side of the blade.

A comparable look of confusion remained on her unconscious face.

Bonifacius breathed a sigh as he placed his weapon away.

Regaining his composure, he looked around at all the injured people.

He rushed over to help MilkmanTim, Bonifacius had a backup health potion, he gave some of it to MilkmanTim.

Seeing some of his wounds disappear, he moved over to the passed-out Frednutter and the injured civilian.

He was left with about one-sixth of the bottle to himself at the end.

Zephyr looked in a mix of awe and confusion as Bonifacius gave away most of his potion to everyone around him, despite his own wounds and exhaustion.

The last thing Bonifacius did was walk up to the unconscious assassin and place the almost empty bottle beside her.

“Health potions aren’t cheap… why did he waste it like that…?”

Zephyr couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

“You really are an interesting person!” he remarked.

“I am?” Bonifacius questioned looking at all the injured people around him with a feeling of guilt.

The atmosphere went dark as Zephyr looked Bonifacius in the eyes.

“However,” Zephyr began.

“You don’t stand a chance against the boss…”

“He’s level one-hundred, and also a shield user, I wouldn’t even stand a chance against him in a fair fight…” Zephyr sighed gesturing to the tall building in the distance.

He looked back to Bonifacius.

“You should take as many people as you can and leave this hell-hole,” Zephyr offered.

Bonifacius considered his proposal.

“Who knows, maybe some suicidal assassin would be willing to buy you some time if you were to do that,” he said half-jokingly.

Bonifacius crossed his arms.

“I appreciate your offer…” Bonifacius began.

“Then accept it,” Zephyr cut him off.

“However, I won’t bow down to evil,” he said plainly.

“And besides… I could never go on knowing a shield-user is bringing harm to innocent people!” Bonifacius added.

Zephyr let out a sigh.

“I might have mistaken your stupidity for something else…” he remarked.

“Perhaps!” Bonifacius laughed.

“And I didn’t mean myself when I said that thing about buying time!” he added before shadow-stepping away.

When Bonifacius turned back he saw the female assassin and her potion were gone, wisped away by Zephyr.

With that, Bonifacius set his eyes on the tall structure in the distance.
