Volume 5 - Chapter 16: Goodbye, my fear.

"What... are you doing?" Bromy asked, the three dogs lay on the ground next to the kid.

"I don't know how... but I just pet them and they became nice!" exclaimed the kid patting the dogs.

"Is the kid... a druid?" Bromy thought.

He snapped himself back to reality.

"Kid! Can you bring me to the cat-eared man?" Bromy asked.

The kid looked at him wide-eyed.

"Umm... sure!"

The kid led Bromy back to Alex, the three dogs followed him.

The kid knocked on Alex's door at the inn, a groggy Alex opened the door, it was still dark outside but he returned to the house to get some sleep.

"What's up?" he asked with a yawn.

Alex looked down at the kid.

"Bromy told me to come to you!" the kid explained, Alex's eyes widened as he looked behind the kid and saw an awkward-looking Bromy.

"Bromy?" Alex asked.

"Not the one you remember... but that doesn't matter..." Bromy said.

"..." Alex looked at him, mouth agape.

"Uhm... alright, come inside-" Alex began but was cut off by Bromy.

"It's Felix!"

"What?" asked Alex.

"Felix is the killer!" Bromy explained.

"..." Alex looked at Bromy with a serious expression.

"That's... impossible... how!?" Alex asked.

"No time to elaborate! Follow me!" Bromy exclaimed as he turned to the kid.

"You stay here! I'll be back!" Bromy said as he began running towards the location of Felix's home.

His lungs felt like they were on fire.

Bromy's smoking habit played a number on his lung capacity, nevertheless, Bromy kept running.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

"Please be alive!" he thought in his head as he thought back to her smile.

Alex was behind Bromy as he kicked Felix's door down.

The fire was put out.

His home was dead silent.

"Bromy! You can't just kick his doors down!" Alex exclaimed.

Bromy rushed down the stairs and began smashing the door to no avail.

Alex took a sigh.

"You're paying for the damages if you're wrong..." Alex said as he gestured for Bromy to step aside.

Alex slashed the reinforced door shut as the stench of blood flooded the house.

Alex caused Thal to burst into blue flames and illuminated the room revealing blood and tools of torture as well as the body of a violet-haired woman.

"Violet!" Alex exclaimed as he rushed over to her side.

She was still alive, though her body was covered in a few bruises, it looked like Felix didn't get a chance to use any of his hardcore torture methods.

Bromy placed a hand over her unconscious head and closed his eyes.

Unconsciously, his body began healing the woman as her wounds closed.

Alex looked to Bromy.

"Where is he?" Alex asked.

"I have no idea..." Bromy replied.

Alex let out a sigh.

"I'll go find him... you keep her safe!" Alex instructed, Bromy nodded.

As Alex charged out he left Bromy and Violet alone in the room.

Bromy began to tear up.

"I'm sorry it took so long..." Bromy said holding onto the girl's hand.

"Bromy..." she said, she looked at him.

Bromy shook his head.

"Not the Bromy you know..." Bromy replied.

"Well... this is the second time you've saved me..." she said with a weak smile.

Bromy couldn't help but smile.

"Don't worry, Bromy's going to be back soon!" he said with a smile as tears streamed down his face.

Violet's expression shifted.

"What do you mean?" she asked.

Coward-Bromy placed a hand to his head.

"Felix is one over-powered bastard!" Bromy laughed.

He was starting to get choked up.

"Alex will need the help of the actual Bromy,"

"Wait, hold on!"

Bromy smiled and looked down as green sparks appeared on his hand.

"Judging from what the others said, I'll probably be excluded from the final Bromy... erased..."

He took a long, shaky breath.

"Bromy has no need for a coward!" he said as the familiar fizzing sound came.

"I'm sorry about everything!" he said.

Bromy fell back with a tearful smile.

"Goodbye, Violet."

As large roots came from the ground, they built a thick shell around him and Violet while Bromy was passed out.

An impenetrable shield.

Violet got up and rushed to Bromy's side.

"Bromy!" she exclaimed.

She shook him awake as Bromy opened his eyes.

He sat up, knocking violet on the nose.

"Ow!"

"Mmm? Oh, Violet..." Bromy remarked with a yawn.

He wiped his face clean.

"What the hell? Since when do I cry in my sleep?" he asked Jokingly as he looked to the confused-looking Violet.

"..."

"..."

"Why did I wake up crying in a torture dungeon?!" Bromy demanded.

"WHAT DID YOU PEOPLE DO TO ME!?"

Bromy felt a chill run down his spine.

"Creepy..." he remarked.

Meanwhile, Alex was running through the town, Thal in hand.

The clouds parted as the light of the moon illuminated his way.

That's when he saw it.

Felix's silhouette standing atop one of the rooves.

With the aid of Thal's power, he jumped onto the roof of a nearby building.

Alex wore a blue scarf that waved in the wind and gloves.

Felix stood there in his usual coat.

"Seems like the perfect night for the big boss fight, right Alex?" Felix asked with a smile.

"Be careful Alex!" Thal said.

Alex took a deep breath.

"I won't let you escape this time... murderer!"

Felix gestured to his ring.

"Alex, you do know what will happen if you die?" Felix asked.

"..." Alex didn't reply.

Felix breathed a loud sigh.

"I know you won't believe me, but I really think of you as a friend... so I don't want to kill you..." Felix explained.

Alex's expression didn't change.

Felix breathed a sigh.

In an instant, they clashed blades, Alex launched forward like a cannonball engulfed in blue flames as Felix parried the blade.

He kicked Alex back, his body flying into a building through its window.

Alex rolled to the side as from outside the window came six shots that dotted the wooden floor.

Felix summoned another gun as Alex smashed through the roof, flying towards Felix as their blades clashed once more.

Felix fired two shots at Alex, both were deflected by Thal.

Their blades me once more as Thal exploded into blue flames, charring the entire roof and setting it ablaze as ash rained from the sky.

Felix was already a safe distance away.

"This is your last chance, Alex... I won't be able to hold back anymore..." Felix said.

"Please, don't force me to kill you..." he pleaded.

Alex wiped the mix of sweat and ash off his face.

"I already told you, didn't I?" Alex began.

"I'm not letting you escape this time!" he exclaimed.
