Volume 6 - Chapter 7: Apology

"How exactly did you get that money?" asked Darius suspiciously, they were sitting on the back of the trader's cart along with a few bags of fruits and vegetables.

The other carts carried piles of hides and cloth.

They were moving through the road, surrounded by trees and bushes.

"For your information, I didn't murder anyone, I robbed a few bandits," she replied holding her still-full bag of coins.

"Guess I shouldn't underestimate the witch of under-town... even if she is just a degenerate..."

As the group crossed into Greatpark, leaving the forested area and feeling the warm sun on their skin.

Darius's ears twitched as in the distance he heard the sound of quick footsteps.

In a flash, he jumped from the cart, witch in hand as it was reduced to splinters by the paladin's charge.

"What does that asshole have against our carts!?" Darius demanded, landing on the ground and placing the witch down onto the ground faster than she could process.

The carts sped off into the distance, not looking back at what they assumed could only be a wild beast.

"DARIUS!" cried the shield-wielding paladin.

Darius' eye darted around the area.

The land was flat except for the cliff on the side leading into a deep, dark cavern.

The two engaged in battle as from the distance came an arrow of pure light.

"What the?!" Darius exclaimed narrowly dodging the projectile that flew past him, splintering a distant tree.

From the cover of the distant bushes emerged a harpy clad in white clothes with a gold trim.

A white hood could be seen over their face from under which poked out locks of blond hair.

In his hand was a bow, he pulled his hand back and fired a bolt of yellow light, flying through trees and rocks only for them to burst open seconds later.

Darius dodged the projectile once more as from the side he was launched over to the cliff by the paladin.

After hitting the ground, Darius got back to his feet.

"I see you brought friends..." he remarked clutching his blade.

"SHIT, SHIT, SHIT!" Darius looked around, there wasn't a way to win this.

Darius continued thinking over the situation as the archer fired another arrow, before it struck Darius it was blocked by a black crow that sprouted from the ground, being reduced to blood and feathers in a flash.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

The archer's gaze changed to the witch.

"I'll handle the archer, you take out the armoured one!" she exclaimed extending her hand towards the archer.

"I've already tried using fear on both of them... looks like they're immune right now..." she thought.

"Necrotic wind!" she exclaimed as a gust of black wind flew out, the tree turned black and began to crack, the bark turning into hard flakes.

Despite this, the archer was already several meters away from the affected area, the witch followed.

"Alright!" Darius exclaimed, focusing on the paladin before him.

Next to the cliff, Darius charged at the paladin.

Darius' sword and the paladin's shield met, sparks flew out as Darius jumped back, only to leap back into combat, slashing at the paladin who jumped to the side causing Darius to slice the ground instead and causing the earth to tremble.

"Too slow!" bellowed the paladin as he charged at Darius once more, their weapons clashing as Darius repeated his manoeuvre.

"Aren't you a bit tired... wearing such thick armour?" Darius asked gasping for breath.

The paladin charged at him once more, the impact sent Darius flying backwards, hitting the ground rolling until he eventually crashed into the bark of a tree.

The paladin began making his way towards Darius as the wolfman once more got to his feet.

His left shoulder broken, he was struck with a mix of pain and more pain.

He began making his way towards the paladin who held his shield at the ready.

"Surrender, Darius! And perhaps the gods will have mercy on your soul!" the paladin exclaimed.

Darius continued walking towards the paladin, he charged at him, slashing at the ground as the paladin kicked him, his body rolling up next to the edge of the cliff.

"I can't tell if you're so driven or if you gave up on surviving this fight, either way, surrender!"

Darius charged again, running into the paladin, his charge breaking before he even reached the man as his body went limp, falling to the ground before the paladin, his blade still tightly clutched in his hands.

"Looks like your body finally gave out, Darius..." the paladin remarked, picking the wolfman up and placing him over his shoulder.

"Say... divine fanboy..." Darius whispered.

"You're still conscious?" asked the paladin.

"Aren't you feeling a bit heavy with all that armour? Not to mention you're carrying me..." Darius grinned as the paladin processed his words.

"Colossal Stomp!" Darius cried as he kicked the paladin down into the ground.

He looked at the half dozen cuts he planted to the earth around the cliff as more cracks formed, severing the piece of land the paladin and Darius stood on as both began sliding down into the abyss.

"YOU SET ME UP, DARIUS!" cried the paladin as Darius stabbed his blade into the side of the cliff, avoiding the fall, unlike the gold-wearing paladin that was reduced to a pulp on impact.

Darius was about to pull himself up when he felt his muscles give out, his sword was buried deep into the cliff and his hand instinctively clutched the blade, but he would be unable to climb up anytime soon.

"Let's hope the witch survives to help me up..." Darius thought.

Meanwhile...

The witch was engaged in a fight with the archer paladin.

Their game of dodging and firing projectiles led them far into the forest as the witch heard the distant rumbling of the cliff falling.

"What the hell are they doing out there?!" she thought.

"You hear that!? Your friend is probably dead, give up!" she exclaimed.

"Friend?!" the archer could barely hold back his laughter.

The archer drew his bow back and fired a triple-arrow shot, all three flying out and curving around trees and rocks, like homing missiles heading for the witch.

"I need no friend in this world! Lord Oscar is the only one I need!"

After blocking the strikes with crows, the witch crossed her arms.

"Kinda' gay but whatever..."

"Do not ridicule the gods!"

"I mean, you said it... I expected the gods to hook up with gods, not mortals, but if you say you and him have a thing, who am I to judge," she shrugged.

"You... TAKE THAT BACK YOU STUPID BITCH!" the paladin trembled, the idea of a divine being lowered to that of a mortal such as himself sent waves of uncontrollable rage through the paladin.

"What do you mean? You're the one that said it, not me!" the witch replied placing her hands at her hips.

A look of fear spread across the paladin's face as he looked up to the sky.

"I... said it?"

He fell down to his knees as he began to sob uncontrollably.

His wailing could be heard throughout the forest.

"Bingo..." thought the witch, the paladin's mental state was damaged enough for her fear spell to work.

He looked up and saw the face if Oscar looking down on him, the man began to shake uncontrollably as he began to mumble apologies and cried for forgiveness.

The god didn't do or say anything.

Through tears, the paladin let out a shriek as he drew back his bow, pointing it at the witch.

"FUCK!" she exclaimed as in the bow appeared over a dozen arrows of light.

"I'M SORRY!" he exclaimed, letting go of the arrows as they flew towards the witch before turning back and skewering the archer over and over again, like a twenty-arrow firing squad that lasted several seconds.

As the paladin's vision blurred he looked up to the sky, tears still streaming from his face as he pleaded the nonexistent god for forgiveness.

Finally, the archer died.

From above rain fell down to mourn the death of both paladins as well as to lament the survival of the two enemies of the world, or perhaps worlds.
