The door to the large mansion-like house swung open revealing a nicely kept home, down the stairs walked a human, he wore long trousers and a lab coat over a Hawaiian shirt, on his head he wore a grey bucket hat, his hair was an inch or two longer than what would be considered short and poorly kept.
A lit cigarette was placed in his mouth as he made his way to the party, massive bags under his eyes were evidence of the lack of rest his character was enduring, “his stamina bar must have been near 0.” John though.
"Bromy: Oh god there's more of you..."
"Bonifacius: Fear not friend! For they are here as part of my party!"
A few seconds of silence passed before anybody said anything.
"Bromy: So...I'd offer you some tea but..."
Another pause took place.
"Bonifacius: Great idea! I shall go make some!"
"Bromy: Glad to see you haven't changed..."
"Bonifacius: You too, old friend!"
"Bromy: I was being sarcastic..."
"Olivionion: Hey there, I heard you're also passionate about the...gorey aspects of the game."
"Bromy: Hm? You too? I'd be happy to show you my collection if you wish."
Bromy's change in tone was obvious to everyone even if it wasn't clearly indicated in the text.
"JohnWillStab: Do you just hang out alone on this island?"
"Bromy: If you're asking about other players, then yes, it's just me and the occasional patient."
"JohnWillStab: Patient?"
"Bromy: I get visitors, new and old - they’re always getting me to stitch something on or remove a permanent status effect."
Bromy gestured for JohnWillStab and Olivionion to follow him, they walked into an unlit room and down a few flights of stairs until they entered a large room filled with poorly lit tubes.
"JohnWillStab: What are these?"
"Bromy: Oh, those are just my experiments."
Olivionion rushed out ahead of the party and started looking at the tubes.
"Olivionion: Did you make these?!"
"Bromy: Yep, max level surgery and a class of druid makes everything easier."
Olivionion was basically pressed up against the glass tube, looking with excitement at the human-faced fish inside.
Bromy approached him.
"Bromy: Ah, these guys, I attached NPC heads to rock eels, it's more of an experiment than anything else."
"Greeting, traveller, do you have a moment to spare?" asked one of the fish.
"Olivionion: They can talk!?"
"Bromy: Yeah, if you were to open the cell you could take their quests too."
"Olivionion: That's amazing!"
"Bromy: I can show you the more gruesome ones too if you'd like."
Olivionion kneeled down as he replied:
"Olivionion: It would be an honour!"
XsuphicatR rushed down the stairs and towards Bromy, John and Olivionion.
"XsuphicatR: Aren't you forgetting why we're here in the first place..."
"JohnWillStab: That's right! We're here to see if you can resurrect an NPC" for us.
"Bromy: As long as it's not undead I should be able to get them back on their feet."
"JohnWillStab: What's wrong with the undead?"
"Bromy: How should I put this... you are an insult to the art of virtual medicine."
JohnWillStab was feeling personally attacked, did this man hate the undead so badly? Was he going to cut John's head off and attach it to a fish?
"Olivionion: I absolutely agree!"
"Bromy: They aren't even fun to cut up... plus anything you attach rots and falls off."
"Olivionion: Yeah!"
"JohnWillStab: I'm sorry... I think... T_T"
"Bromy: Whatever, sometimes I forget you people play this game for different reasons than I."
"JohnWillStab: So you'll let me keep my head?"
"Bromy: For now, not like I could attach it to a living thing anyway, you’d spread disease to my subjects."
"Olivionion: ... Olivionion was hoping JohnWillStab wouldn’t get out of decapitation that easily."
"XsuphicatR: People, Jerry..."
"Bromy: Ah yes, your pet, just put him down on the floor."
XsuphicatR did as instructed, he placed Jerry on the ground.
Bromy's eyes started glowing an orange colour as a warm light and autumn leaves filled the room, despite the colourful display Bromy stood there with his hands in his pockets as if he was waiting for his microwavable popcorn to be done.
Jerry's corpse rose into the air before falling back down, the impact causing a splat of blood to appear on his head.
"XsuphicatR: What happened..."
"Bromy: Intruders, someone's fighting on the island."
"Bromy: What a pain... I was hoping to have you guys leave soon as soon as possible."
Bromy unequipped his lab coat and replaced it with an actual coat, it was light brown with patches at his elbows.
A loud explosion rang out as the room they stood in was exposed to the light from outside, chunks of meat and blood sprayed out along with the brick from the wall that once stood.
"Captain Morgass: COME OUT HERE, COWARDS!"
Stolen story; please report.
The party looked out through the hole in the wall seeing a large humanoid with a hulking figure of grey-blue flesh and exposed bone - tentacles and seaweed covering its massive frame.
"Bromy: A friend of yours?"
"JohnWillStab: Not exactly... he tried to steal our as$#s"
"Bromy: I see..."
"Bromy: Why?"
"JohnWillStab: He refused to explain."
"Bromy: Well, guess you can solve that a$$ mystery another time…"
Soon a few more NPCs lumbered out from under the waves, they looked like skeletons covered in seaweed to make a knock-off mummy, some looked more humanoid, like regular blue undead - but a quick look revealed they too were NPCs.
The captain picked up one of the mummies and hurled it at the building, shattering another wall.
Moments later Bonifacius rushed down the stairs,
"Bonifacius: Did thou see the explosion!?"
"Bromy: Yeah, some a$$-thief is attacking my home..."
"Bonifacius: The captain?!"
"Captain Morgass: I can hear you, as#$oles!"
As he yelled that out another mummy was thrown towards the building, this time it managed to survive, after crashing into the fish-NPC tank it crawled back up and began to eat the dying fish before turning its gaze to Jerry.
Its neck was swiftly severed by JohnWillStab much to everybody's surprise.
"JohnWillStab: Guess they're pretty low level!"
Bromy looked at the dead fish and noticed the black spots appearing on them.
"Bromy: But it looks like they spread some disease, try and stay out of the way."
Bromy looked to Bonifacius.
"Bromy: You're the one who dragged them here, you better help me fix this."
"Bonifacius: Of course I shall help you friend!"
"Bromy: Good, scythe and corpse, you stay here, dagger guy come with us."
Bromy pointed to Olivionion.
"Olivionion: I SWEAR I WON'T DISAPPOINT!"
The three left as JohnWillStab and XsuphicatR sat in the room with the last of the fish flopping around whilst calling out for the guards, they were looking out to the beach and seeing the dozens maybe hundreds of mummies making their way towards the centre of the island, the occasional NPC would try and stop them (the NPCs were most likely Bromy's experiments) but were overwhelmed soon after.
JohnWillStab noticed that Bromy was now in the party, he was feeling useless again, he hated the feeling, would he really be such a burden to everyone?
JohnWillStab stood up and drew his blade.
"JohnWillStab: That's it I'm going out there to help!"
"XsuphicatR: No you're not..."
"JohnWillStab: Ok..."
JohnWillStab sat back down.
A minute or so of intensively watching the health of the other party members fluctuate John stood up.
"JohnWillStab: I'm undead, I can't get infected!"
"XsuphicatR: ......"
"XsuphicatR: Neither can I, I'm a vampire..."
The two of them stood up and started making their way upstairs and out of the house.
"XsuphicatR: I'll go help out on the beach..."
"JohnWillStab: Right, I'll go to the woods!"
The two turned in opposite directions,
"XsuphicatR: Oh, and John..."
"JohnWillStab: ?"
"XsuphicatR: If you manage to live through this, I guess I'll have to consider that story about you and the JGuardians..."
"JohnWillStab: Alright! Try to stay alive too!"
John was running through the thick, tropical-looking woods until he stopped when he saw Bromy casting some sort of spell at the mummies.
Another mummy drew near from behind him, just as it was about to strike, John got its attention by tossing a knife at it.
As soon as Bromy heard the undead groning from behind him he cast a spell which caused a swarm of insects to erupt around him and reduce the undead to a husk.
"Bromy: I guess your ears are rotten too, I told you to stay at the house..."
"JohnWillStab: Yeah, well, I just saved your a$$ from being eaten off by a seaweed zombie."
"Bromy: Don't get too full of yourself, corpse."
Bromy summoned a cyclone of wilting leaves and twigs and fired it towards JohnWillStab who moved out of the way only for the spell to hit the enemy behind him, shredding it to bits.
"Bromy: Consider us even."
Another dozen or so undead started moving towards the two from each direction.
JohnWillStab moved in for a direct hit on one of them, his dagger slashed away half of the mummy's health meaning John was able to kill a single mummy in about 5 seconds excluding walking up to it,
As another one closed in JohnWillStab kicked it, then slashed it resulting in an even faster kill.
Bromy was busy creating a spray of orange dust from his palm, the mummies he hit with the spray started sprouting small mushrooms before becoming overgrown and dying.
JohnWillStab, while admiring Bromy's spell was struck on the back, his character was knocked over for a second before getting back up and slicing the zombie to bits, black spots started to spread across his skin before suddenly disappearing.
"Bromy: Looks like you really are immune, corpse."
"JohnWillStab: Not my first run-in with poison."
The two stood practically back-to-back, as more than two-dozen undead started closing in towards them, some wielding sticks or shells as weapons others using massive clumps of coral as shields or armour.
"Bromy: We're fighting a war on all fronts - we need to fall back to the beach!"
"JohnWillStab: Alright!"
Bromy's character used a whistle emote to summon four abominations - stitched up wolfmen, fish people and humans - held together with rope and what looked like sellotape in places, each one stood on all-fours like an animal.
"Bromy: I'm sorry about this, my dear pets! But try and hold the enemy off as long as possible!"
With a strange sound, one could technically interpret as a purr or maybe bark the creatures started tearing away at the undead, shreds of seaweed and bones flew through the air as Bromy and JohnWillStab rushed through the forest and towards the beach.
A gurgled howl let them know about the defeat of one of the pets, the other three still fought.
"Bromy: This b#%tard is getting one hell of an a$$-beating for this…"
When the party reached the beach they were greeted by an even larger army of undead, a large figure of a humanoid, clad in armour but also wrapped in seaweed towered above both of them.
"JohnWillStab: The hell is that?!"
"Bromy: I guess some player-corpse was caught up in whatever spell was used to create these undead."
The creature let out a gurgled cry as it cast a charge spell towards Bromy, using its shield to crash into him.
Before it could make contact with him, Bromy cast thorn binds, large thorny vines grabbed a hold of the undead creature’s limbs and head and they to squeeze them.
"Bromy: Hey, corpse!"
"JohnWillStab: Yes?"
"Bromy: He’s a higher level, you can’t kill it - I’ll kill him, you keep the low levels off my back."
"JohnWillStab: Alright!"
As he replied he saw not only the undead from the forest but also the undead from the sea close in - slash after slash, he must have cut down over fifty zombies by the time his health reached the 50% mark.
The pressure from keeping a literal never-ending stream of undead off Bromy, who would die in one hit because of the disease was taking a toll on him - he was sweating like crazy, he didn’t even notice how many times he levelled up, his mind seemingly filtered out anything except the basic information he needed to stay alive.
"Bromy: His health is almost done, try and stay “alive” for a few more minutes!"
"JohnWillStab: Got it!"
He continued his defence, fighting off the closest group and throwing knives when he was too far to attack the monsters.
The armoured giant keeled over crushing a few undead as Bromy cast an AOE (area of effect) spell which entangled all nearby monsters with vines that sapped health from them and redirected it to JohnWillStab.
"JohnWillStab: Thanks!"
"Bromy: Looks like that’s the main enemy-force on this side, let’s head over to the other side, hopefully the others are doing alright…"
As they moved forward they came across a bloody scene, the sand was soaked in various shades of blood, piles of corpses littered the beach, arranged in small piles and a large ring, inside Olivionion sat in the sand.
"JohnWillStab: It’s Olivionion! Of course he managed to deal with the undead!"
"Bromy: I wouldn’t say that…"
"JohnWillStab: What do you mean?"
JohnWillStab turned back towards Olivionion, he walked up to him only to see that he was already dead, black dots spread across half of his body, stopping just short of the head, where a clean-cut was visible.
"Bromy: The dumbass must’ve gotten infected, so he cut his head off since most of us couldn’t handle him in a fight."
"JohnWillStab: You mean he cut his own head off?! How?!"
"Bromy: It’s a special kind of weapon, more of an exploit than anything - ask a blacksmith for a su#*ide sword next time you’re in town, corpse."
Meanwhile, Bonifacius was busy fighting one-on-one against Captain Morgass, every swipe of his swollen fist was blocked by Bonifacius’ shield.
The heavy armour Bonifacius wore made it impossible for the regular undead to infect him unless they strike for his head of lower legs, for the most part, he was manipulating the trajectory of the captain’s attacks to kill his minions.
"Captain Morgass: Give up already, you try-hard!"
"Bonifacius: I will sooner die than obey thy orders!"
"Captain Morgass: Come one! You’re a roleplayer! Can’t you appreciate a good death!?"
"Bonifacius: Tis just the way I speak!"
Bonifacius thrust his blade towards the enemy who blocked it with one of his massive arms.
"Captain Morgass: Damn it! I’m running out of time!"
"Bonifacius: Time for what!?"
Captain Morgas’s character suddenly started to swell again, tears appeared in their flesh as blood poured for every orifice.
"Captain Morgass: You wasted too much of my time already!" he bellowed as he kicked Bonifacius away and started his charge towards the centre of the island where he assumed the others were.
Bonifacius’ pursuit was stopped by another army of undead.
Morgass was charging through the forest, the vines and branches snagged onto the bloated flesh-tearing chunks off.
"Captain Morgass: I have to find the one who killed me!"
His running was stopped as he remembered something: “I drowned. Nobody killed me.”
Confused, he continued the journey towards the mansion he bombarded with undead before, his shifting frame slowing down as new limbs sprouted and fell off, tentacles spread out from his wounds and grabbed onto the surrounding trees.
The giant fell over as suspicion that he was tricked began appearing, “who was that player under the sea?”, “Why exactly were we told to collect all the asses?”, “How did it all become this?”
