Volume 3 - Chapter 31: Snek-man

Unable to decide which trail of flowers was real, they split into two groups, Bromy and Revenberry, and Bonifacius and MrFinland.

"You better get ready to fight, I doubt he'll just give up," Bromy warned.

"I doubt we'll run into him - this path leads towards the Lost coat," she explained.

"Call it the lost coast..." Bromy sighed.

"It says coat on the map, so I'm calling the zone a lost coat."

Bromy let out a sigh.

"Anyway, I'm pretty sure we'll see him," Bromy replied.

He knelt down and picked up a flower off the ground.

"The path Bony and Sushi followed has flowers that were planted in the ground."

"So... flowers just grow in long lines?" asked Revenberry.

"It's most likely just sloppy illusion magic." Bromy shrugged.

Bromy and Revenberry walked down the trail and towards a large hill.

"Wait, you knew!?" she demanded.

"Yup," he confirmed.

"What about Bonifacius," she asked seemingly tenser.

"I was certain I'd be alright if I chose the trail north-east!" she thought.

"I doubt he noticed, It's my magic pattern recognition spell." he joked.

"Why didn't you tell us? were you so excited to fight Eric?" she asked.

"It's not that, our fish-friend was going to die for sure, so I decided to take the liberty of sending him away, originally I wanted to pair him up with you, but if it somehow did turn out that Eric was at the end of the trail of living flowers, you two would be screwed," he explained.

"Once again, Bromy proves he has a conscience." she thought before smiling.

"What the hell are you smiling about, bird-brains?" he asked.

"Oh nothing~" she replied.

Bromy sighed before reaching the top of the hill, below was a long, steep slope leading to the lone coat (also known as the lost coast).

Large slabs of what looked like concrete were lined against the slope leading down, collapsed bunkers and tall buildings decorated the area.

"The lost coast..." Bromy said before lighting a cigarette and taking a step down the concrete slope and slowly climbing his way down.

He looked up and saw Revenberry shaking a little from the height.

"Oh for the love of fuck..." he sighed.

"I'll grab you with the chain when I get to someplace flat," he called out before speeding up his climb.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

"A-alright... thanks..." she replied with a hint of relief in her voice.

In the distance brewed a heavy storm, clouds as black as coal illuminated by lighting as bright as the sun.

A minute or so later, Revenberry was grabbed by the chain, it entangling around her leg before pulling her down to Bromy.

"W-w-wait!" she screamed on her way down before landing on a soft patch of grass.

"I thought you'd catch me..." she replied looking at Bromy in hope of generating some guilt.

"As if." he laughed.

He turned to the zone before him.

"Allegedly this used to be the home of a long-dead race in the lore... the mysterious fog-kin. The closest this game came to having elves." Bromy replied.

"They had advanced technology and whatnot, but could only live in the fog which permanently coated this area."

"You sure know a lot about this world..." Revenberry noticed.

"Well, if you play this game as long as me you pick up a thing or two."

"According to the lore, it was thanks to their rampant technological growth that they shifted the climate such that the fog disappeared, leaving them unable to survive."

"Why would they do that?" asked Revenberry, they continued making their way down the steep sides of the hills surrounding the lost coat.

"Looks like he's here..." Bromy said pointing to the large pile of flowers laying on the ground as the wind picked up blowing some away.

Bromy walked up to the flowers seeing them partially bathed in blood.

"What the?"

He saw more blood on the ground, instead of roads there were more slabs of the concrete-like material, Bromy wasn't well informed about it, but any high-level builder would spend hours singing the praises of the mystical Pasterock, a material the recipe for was lost to time.

"Stay back, bird brains! Something's off!" Bromy exclaimed before rushing off after the trail of blood.

As he ran he turned a corner and saw the large metal structure, a decorational machine left in one of the buildings in the zone.

Next to it stood a creature with a snake-tail for legs, the giant muscular arms of a Greek god and the head of a cobra, blue scales covered the body of this creature.

"A sea prince?"

"What are they doing with it?"

Beside him stood a massive platform made of wood, with chains hanging off it on all sides.

Bromy eyed the creature as it shook its hands clean of the blood that covered them, Bromy leaned out a bit further and saw a massive pile of gore and clothes, dozens of bodies, all belonging to the same person.

"Thisss isss a fare well... you were a sssub-par pawn..." hissed the creature before placing the large machine on what looked like a massive rectangular platform, he grabbed it by the heavy-looking chains and dragged it into the depths with him, leaving the pile of Eric bodies out to rot.

As it slithered on the grey sand it left a trail, the only evidence of its colossal size, no less than twice the size of a human.

Once the creature returned to far below the depths, Bromy quietly made his way out to the pile of bodies.

"A sea prince, a level one-hundred creature... an elite no less, only found in the promised underwater raid... but wasn't that just fake?" Bromy thought slowly taking count of the bodies.

"Yeah... it's safe to say Eric's dead..." Bromy thought turning back to see a rather disgusted Revenberry.

"Before you throw up on me, I'll have you know I warned you," he exclaimed taking a step back.

"Nah... I'm not gonna-" she proceeded to empty her breakfast onto the muddy grass and concrete floor.

Suddenly, with a splash a chain shot out of the water, it grabbed a hold of Bromys leg and proceeded to pull it into the water.

Below, the massive sea prince drew back his chain, pulling it below the foam and what little light the surface offered.

"Nosssey humanssss..." hissed the creature underwater as it pulled the chain closer and closer it began feeling the familiar scent of blood.

"What the?!" it looked closer at the item it dragged down to the surface, it was a severed leg.

Meanwhile, on the surface, Bromy and Revenberry were already fleeing from the beach with the use of the chain-hand.

"Are you alright?!" Revenberry asked looking at the stream of blood leaking from Bromy's right leg.

"Yeah, probably will have to retire from my plans of being a pro football player earlier than anticipated though," he replied through clenched teeth.

Eventually, they made it to the top of one of the concrete buildings, each building resembled a multi-level parking lot.

Bromy had a harsh landing, smashing his head on the concrete, thankfully they weren't moving that fast.

Bromy pulled up his trouser leg and with the use of "rejuvenation" closed the wound before he breathed a sigh of relief.

"This is going to take some healing to get fixed..." he sighed before taking a deep breath and resting his head against the cold concrete of the building.

A drop of rain landed on his face, then another.

Revenberry dragged him indoors, there was a doorless staircase leading down to an area that sort of resembled a parking lot, though unlike a parking lot, the design consisted of a large room taking up most of the area, inside was a dozen or so dilapidated rooms.

The part where the stairs led them was like a communal balcony for whoever lived here.

Revenberry dragged Bromy into one of the empty rooms, dropping him off at one of the concrete frames where the mattress may once have created a bed.

"I wonder if the windows had glass in them?" she thought.

Part of her wanted to look out onto the beach but she was afraid of the chain flying out of the water and dragging her in.

She sat down opposite the "bed" Bromy slept in.

While it wasn't anywhere as much as heights, the sea did make Revenberry uneasy.

Not drowning or the millions of disgusting, slimy evils in the depths, but the idea that anything could be inside, she could thank H.P Lov*craft for that.

She reached into the pocket of her robes, pulling out some leftover banana bread and mead.

"At least the booze is good," she said trying to cheer herself up before taking a small bite of the dry banana bread.

Seemingly losing her appetite, she placed the bread back in her robe and took another swig of the booze before dozing off.

As outside the storm brought in a thick fog from further out the coast.

The thick mist poured into the streets, not affected by the strong wind and rain.
