CHAPPY 69 - S-CLASS HEROES MEET UP
--[--]...[--]--
Light shone on the table, revealing the array of foods that had just been finished cooking, emitting its delicious smell for everyone to enjoy.
But alas, the beauty of food instantly deteriorated the moment everyone took their portion, leaving only the memory of such beauty for one to enjoy in the future.
“So, will you finally tell me why you want to eat here?” Saitama broke the silence and directly asked the one question he had in mind.
“I don’t really have any special goal getting close to you, I’m just curious as to how a Transcendent of this world lives.” Kenjiki shook his head as he lightly bit into the cooked meat.
Still, Saitama was suspicious of his desire to have lunch with him because the thought of someone giving him some meat just to satisfy their curiosity on how he lived was quite alien to him.
As he chowed down on his food, the last bit of sentence that Kenjiki uttered suddenly flicked some sort of switch inside his head.
Then he realized that the boy was the weird guy who attacked him out of nowhere and died but somehow was still alive a moment later.
What he remembered was that borderline perverted woman who spouted nonsense from her mouth. Something about Transcendent being the peak of a world and yadda yadda.
“Do you want to fight again?” Saitama inadvertently asked this question, because there was no other reason for Kenjiki to approach him other than wanting to fight him.
Kyoka, Shenhe, Mirko, and Genos who were on the sideline listening to their conversation widened their eyes.
Simply caught off guard when the topic of fighting suddenly was brought up in the middle of eating.
The one who was shocked the most was Genos, someone who had lived with Saitama for some time and had learned quite a bit about him.
Where the only thing they ever exchanged whenever they had meals was about what was on the TV and never anything other than that.
It didn’t matter if the two of them had just destroyed a whole underground criminal organization because it would instantly be forgotten the moment food was placed on the table.
“Kind of. But not for now, I’m quite lacking a destructive ability at the moment.” Kenjiki sighed, as he unwillingly pushed back the one thing he wanted to re-did.
“That’s for the better I guess, all you have is that weird ability of yours.” Saitama nodded, even though his skin was too thick to absorb the meaning of what he had said.
Kenjiki lamented his conceited self of thinking that his previous self could defeat a Transcendent by himself.
Having prided himself in his meager strength that conquered every strong people the world could offer.
Having his body punched into oblivion woke him up and realized that his strength had led him astray.
However, there was nothing he could do since every weapon he had stashed from his previous life was too strong for the world to handle.
Which in turn reminded the last time he brought his beloved katana out and killed the so-called Monster King with his current meager amount of mana.
“Also, I just remembered that there’s a monster lair somewhere underground. Why did you leave them alone even though you live up here?” Kenjiki suddenly remembered about the bunch of monsters he decimated.
“What monster lair?” Saitama tilted his head, never ever once had he heard about some sort of monster lair around here. “Are you talking about the weirdly shaped cave underground? I found it after that annoying earthquake spilled my lunch.”
Saitama then elaborated on what he had found as per Kenjiki’s request.
From the moment where he spilled his lunch, to getting mad, to hunting for the culprits, then finding a massive hole in the ground, then finding hundreds of monsters' corpses with a few of them laid side by side.
Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.
From the description Saitama had given, Kenjiki was sure that it was the same one mainly because of the corpse being laid side by side.
Since he did that himself to extract their Lifebloods and gained an essential ability for his nightlife.
Now that Saitama had told him his side of the story. Kenjiki took the initiative to tell him what he did down there, to which it seemed to have caused an unseen result.
“So it was you who spilled my ramen!!” Saitama pointed at him angrily, almost seeming to cry from being too agitated. Since he remembered the amount of meat put in those two pieces of ramen.
“Then how about I buy you an unlimited supply of ramen? Will you forgive me?” Kenjiki offered, realizing the mistake he had made, causing him to suffer great suffering.
*KOFF!*
Saitama choked on his food.
Unable to believe that he heard him right and it was not just ears playing with him, he even started to get suspicious if he was currently dreaming and this whole thing was just a dream.
That’s why he almost knelt in front of him when Genos repeated Kenjiki’s words, confirming that his ears weren’t fooling around.
“I’d be more than glad to accept your grace.” Saitama grinned ear to ear, as he imagined the mountains of ramen he would eat in the future thanks to this boy.
“No word--”
“BEEP BEEP BEEP”
An alarm blared from behind Saitama, halting everyone’s activity, and looked at Genos who was the source of the noise. Upon seeing that everyone wanted him to pick up the phone, he conceded.
Genos then listened to what the other person had to say before turning off the phone and looking towards his master.
“All of the S-Class are required to meet up at the Hero Association Headquarters.” Genos explained the entirety of the phone call as he finished his food.
Saitama instantly lost interest when he heard what was that about, since all of that was only to call upon the S-Class heroes.
From the lack of urgency in Genos’ voice, he didn’t think that it was something important and probably just some get-together.
Not just him, Kenjiki and Kyoka too lost interest, thinking it was probably some standard meeting.
Though the same couldn't be said for Mirko who had learned things about this continent, as this was mandatory ever since both civilizations joined hands.
While Shenhe just didn’t care about anything and only focused on Kenjiki.
S-Class was a group of monsters in human form, that’s what the information that had been circulating around the Pro Heroes’ circle.
Since any one of them could go toe to toe against a Dragon-Level monster, something even top-ranked heroes couldn’t.
Now that they were told to meet up at the headquarters, something important must’ve happened.
But the lack of urgency in his voice dispelled her thought, and concluded that a Dragon-Level monster might have appeared.
“It doesn't have to be something important, so I’ll wait for everyone to finish their food before I’m going to go.” Genos reinforced their thoughts.
Just like that, everyone continued eating their lunch in peace.
That was until they heard some tires screeching from down the road, just in front of the apartment.
“Excuse me! Is this the apartment of Demon Cyborg, Genos?” Someone shouted from outside the door and banged the door almost causing it to break from the sheer force.
Genos instantly appeared to open the door, not wanting the loud noises to bother his master’s lunch.
Only to see a pair of men donned in messy suits, panting as if they had run in a marathon.
“We’re here to pick you up. I’m sure that you have received the notice.” One of them explained the moment the door was opened.
Their urgency was loud enough for everyone inside to notice, which contrasted with Genos’ previous reaction when he received the phone call about the meeting.
This caused them to start to think that something bigger must’ve happened, though Saitama didn’t care and bit the last piece of meat on his plate as tears flowed down his face, realizing the meat had been eaten.
“Is it something important? Aren’t the other S-Class closer to the HQ?” Genos too was confused, starting to realize that something was going to disturb his master’s time.
“We haven’t received any detail regarding the situation, but Director SItch told us that this is an emergency and every of the S-Class Heroes has to be present.” One of them explained and paused for a breather. “Then, let’s go to the HQ Sir Demon Cyborg.”
Even though the two of them had been urging him to immediately leave for the headquarters, Genos told them to wait as he explained everything to everyone.
Everyone already had an idea that something urgent had happened, aside from Saitama who was busy watching TV.
“Master, do you want to go with me? I’m sure they are more than happy to have you helping.” Genos looked at his master’s shining head, waiting for the answer.
While he didn’t know whether his master would agree to come, Genos still invited his master to come while ignoring Kenjiki and the rest since he didn’t know what help they could give.
“Let’s go!” Saitama had already changed into his hero costume, the usual yellow jumpsuit, white cape and pairs of red dishwashing gloves and boots. “Ah, please keep an eye on my apartment if you decide to stay.”
