The Notorious Misadventures of an Alchemist and a Phoenix, Chapter 10
Gods, no matter how weak or strong have a part-time job, which they use the funds they earn to gamble with. This was one of the few activities most of them enjoyed and so they took their part-time work seriously. If you wanted to piss off the gods then fiddling with there past time would be the first place
Sat around a table, the committee that was taking a close eye on Noah debated on what to do with this resource hog.
They had watched Noah change his class to mage and made their bets, only they weren't happy with the odds. It wasn't worth betting against Noah as he had harmonized the stats he had gained through Alchemy with the Mage class.
Spells became faster, stronger and cheaper when you had the stats backing them. This was made abundantly clear when Noah destroyed puking poison zombies like he was mowing grass. All the god's heads turned to look at the odds.

Poison resistance and magic that hit harder than a sledgehammer caused the odds to be overwhelmingly in the favour of Noah.
The small god of baked goods, NomNom, sat with his fist tightly balled up causing his hand to be grounded into crumbs. This wouldn't do, it wasn't worth betting a hundred divine points just to get one back if they won. The biggest sin in godhood wasn't becoming evil but being boring. He needed to do something to make the situation interesting.
NomNom thoughts were paused when he heard the tale tell noise of the odds ultimately changing.

NomNom witnessed just what had changed with Noah. A massive hoard of zombies had bum-rushed the Alchemist and body-pined the fellow down. With each second that passed the odds changed to more agreeable odds

This was much better as the odds were now against Noah. Not only that but more interesting bets were being placed.
This was when betting became interesting. NomNom took a deep breath out releasing a heavy scent of butter and caramel.
And yet things could be too interesting when gambling. The odds changed back in Noah's favour. A small change at first but it seemed to get faster and bigger like a snowball rolling down a snowy hill.

NomNom checked on Noah again only to find the same thing, he was still pinned under the mass of zombies. NomNoms chocolate eyes flashed white as he peered into the world to spy past the zombies straight on Noah to find he was still there.
However while Noah was pinned down by the weight of the zombies, he still could cast. And that's where NomNom found Noah blasting zombies into a paste with a mana missile. The odds reflected that and had changed. With no way to even hurt Noah and what seemed to be an endless amount of zombies that he didn't even need to aim for the odds were re-evaluated in his favour.
1/1000
If the gods weren't going to bet at odds for a 1/100 weren't going to bet at 1/1000.
NomNom watched as Noah collected more and more experience orbs from fallen enemies and reinvest those orbs into his mana missile. Things got incredibly stupid when one of the perks Noah obtained from the experience orb seemed to increase the fire rate or decrease the cooldown or double attacks.

Caramel teeth cracked as NomNom witnessed a new development with the Mana missiles. Each shot was now passing through three zombies at least, it looked like Noah had gotten lucky with a piercing shot for his mana missiles.
If you ever wondered what a hit from a sledgehammer that could also pierce, then look no further. Each zombie that was hit with mana missiles had a perfect hole that soon collapsed the zombie into mush. It was like each zombie that was hit had its foundation ripped from them causing the whole to fall inwards.

Things had gotten so bad that not only did the gods stop betting but had turned away to watch something else. It was no fun watching a one-sided fight. Unless that one-sided fight was against a hundred five-year-olds against one strong man with knuckle dusters, some people just had that kind of kink.
NomNom was stuck in a hard place. He had to spice up the betting or he would be blamed for Noah's achievements. It didn't matter to the gods who was at fault, only their entertainment mattered.
How did you punish a person for being too successful without the system balancing it out with rewards? The answer was a backhanded reward that got in the way.
There was a program in the system that stops people from killing each other to gain experience orbs. If you were part of the same species or allied with them then no rewards or orbs turned up
NomNom sent the details to the system and instantly the system gave the reward to Noah
"Endearment of the undead"
It was a title and a pretty good one, and yet, it would also stop the experience orbs drops for Noah, but there was also a great aftereffect that changed the odds.
