Chapter 93: Corn Magic

Chapter 93: Corn Magic

“Well, squirrel, is there any other way into this pyramid?” asked Mushpuff, who was still pinning the squirrel against the ground.

“Yes!” said the squirrel. “But you have to let me go first!!”

“What is preventing you from just telling us?” asked the cat.

“It’s a PHYSICAL THING that must be done, you dumb cat!” yelled the squirrel. “LET ME DEMONSTRATE!!”

“There is no reason why you can’t just tell us,” replied Mushpuff, digging his claws into the squirrel.

“OW!” gasped the squirrel. “OKAY! FINE! I DON’T KNOW OF ANY WAY OF GETTING INSIDE!! STOP SCRATCHING ME!!”

“Well then I guess that means we’ll have to figure it out on our own,” said Cat.

“What does that mean for me?” asked the squirrel questioningly.

Mushpuff looked around at the other members of the gang. Everyone shrugged.

“How about we just have Qaeron sit on him for the time being?” asked Snorter.

After a bit of further discussion, Qaeron agreed to sit on the squirrel’s tail while everyone else found a way into the pyramid and ventured into its depths if they found one. The squirrel was in a great deal of pain, but it’s a known fact that squirrel tails, while delicate, are always pretty much fine after being sat on by a bear. It’s a fact that was discovered by the great scientist Doctor Shnerd, who has no relevance to this story and therefore shall not be mentioned again.

The plan for finding an entrance was simple: everyone would split up and sorta just rub their hands/paws/whatnot over the ground until a secret door or something was found. Because that is how secret doors tend to be found. Alas, Mushpuff, Bird, Plagiarize, Hoofa, Snorter, and Klumpkrump all set off in their own separate directions to look for secret entrances. Soon they were all lost amidst the cornstalks that were still there in case you forgot. Because I totally didn’t forget about the cornstalks.

After a good 4 minutes, everyone was already getting quite bored. The novelty of the corn had worn off, but the corn itself had not. In fact, the corn had never worn anything, for it was corn. Well actually I guess it wore husks.

Snorter, being rather hungry, eventually sat down and grabbed a thingamabob of corn. She started eating it, husk and all, and before 10 minutes could pass, she had eaten about 30 of them. And, with each corn husk that she ate, the ground below Qaeron and the squirrel became gradually more slanted.

“WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?!??!!?” yelled the squirrel, his tail still pinned below Qaeron. He had been considering scratching Qaeron with his claws, but after seeing the bear’s own impressive claws, decided against it.

“Hmmm, the bear does not know, yez?” said Qaeron.

“Well maybe you should INVESTIGATE!!”

“Oh, no, a bear cannot dizobey his friends’ orders!” exclaimed the bear. “I muzt keep you here, mmmm, zo that you do not ezcape!”

“And who are they to boss you around?” asked the squirrel. “Don’t you think you should have a little more authority, considering you’re the most powerful one?”

“Mmmm, no, Qaeron will not lizten to the zquirrel’s lies, no!”

“I’M NOT LYING!” yelled the squirrel. “IT’S A FACT, YOU DUMB BEAR!!”

“Qaeron does not like to be inzulted, oh no,” Qaeron said. “Please ztop!”

As Qaeron and the squirrel were having their conversation, the ground was tilting more and more. Hearing the squirrel’s shouts, Bird decided to check up on him and Qaeron. Upon arriving on scene, he saw that the bear and the squirrel were sitting atop a giant slab of the ground that had come upwards, revealing a staircase into the depths of the pyramid below.

“THE SECRET DOOR IS OPEN!!” he yelled. Everyone swiftly gathered at the entrance alongside him.

“Wow, I wonder what caused that,” said Snorter.

“Has anyone been doing anything unusual?” asked Bird.

Everyone answered negatively… except Snorter.

“I’ve been eating corn,” said the pig. “Maybe that was what caused it to open.”

“Let’s test, yo,” said Bird, picking a husk of corn and tossing it to the pig, who devoured it deliciously. As soon as she did, the slab of ground tilted open a little more.

“Must be that Corn Magic that the squirrel was talking about,” said Klumpkrump.

Everyone gathered their readiness before making their way into the deep dank depths below.
