Chapter 66: Barrel Stairs

Chapter 66: Barrel Stairs

The gang began walking towards the large fortress before them before Plagiarize could freeze into a solid block of ice. It was really quite an uneventful journey. There was nothing between them and the fortress except for snow and dead mouse-mechs.

As they got closer, they noticed that the fortress, despite being in the middle of this big ring of mountains with great walls, had yet more walls around it. The gang arrived upon this wall and were stumped at how they could possibly get beyond it. It was around 10 meters tall and its surface was very smooth, so there would be no climbing. Hoofa, however, had a barrel gun. She tried to fire barrels at the wall to break it, but the barrels themselves shattered upon hitting the wall.

“What if we stack the barrels in a staircase?” suggested Mushpuff. “They probably won’t break if you shoot them at the ground because it’s, like, snowy.”

Hoofa shot a barrel at the ground and the barrel did not break because it was, like, snowy. Hoofa continued to shoot barrels as Qaeron and Gumpton took them and stacked them with their strong arms and trunk. Soon a large barrelcase was constructed and it was quite the marvel to behold. Mushpuff, Bird, Plagiarize, Snorter, Hoofa, and Klumpkrump were all able to climb it with relative ease. Then it was Qaeron’s turn to climb. Everyone clenched their faces with great suspense as he stepped onto the first barrel. Surprisingly, it did not break. Qaeron took another step. A creaking barrel noise could be heard. He continued to climb the barrels and the creaking got louder and louder. Alas, upon the 13th stair of barrels, the bottom barrel broke and the whole stack began to fall. Qaeron screamed and ran up the few remaining stairs. The bear did not fall but the top few steps were no more. There was definitely no way Gumpton would be able to climb now, and even if the steps were repaired, an elephant is far heavier and voluminousier than a bear, which also means they’re less agile according to the Law of Voluminousness (the heavier and voluminousier a thing is, the less agile it is).

“Well now what are we to do?” asked Hoofa. “We cannot simply leave Gumpton behind!”

“Hmmmm…” said Klumpkrump, caressing the Energy Cube in her paws. “Whatever could we do?”

“Yo, you should use that,” said Bird, gesturing to Klumpkrump’s cube.

“Oh, I forgot about this!” she said. She then pushed her paws into the cube, sucking up the energy from it. She then aimed her paws down at the wall near the ground and pushed them forward to expel the energy in a beam of destruction. It hit the wall and melted right through it. She went in circles, making the hole larger and larger. Klumpkrump had to reload her paws with fresh energy from the cube after every 10-15 seconds of firing. Eventually she had carved such a large hole in the wall that her, Mushpuff, Bird, Plagiarize, Snorter, and Hoofa were no longer standing on anything and fell 15 meters into the snow. It turns out the whole barrel idea was a large waste of time but I am not cutting it out because I like to waste your time. And also because I spent a large portion of my study hall writing it. The rest of the time was spent staring off into space while listening to music and longing to be at home instead of this god forsaken place.
