Chapter 89: The Return

Chapter 89: The Return

The top side of the Pyramid of Corn was entirely covered with stalks of corn. It was a very corny environment, and the squirrel almost felt bad about squashing a few of them when he landed his spaceship right on top of them. Almost, but not quite. He was a big fan of corn, but corn was nowhere near as awesome as freaking ACORNS. Now those were delectable. And to prepare himself for an adventure of such high caliber as this, he grabbed one from his acorn storage room (also known as any part of his spaceship that wasn’t the control room) and popped it into his mouth. He then adjusted his two bracelets and stepped out of the door into the corn field. And then he made a shocking realization, as demonstrated by his next five or so words.

“ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!” yelled the squirrel, punching a nearby stalk of corn. For, you see, dear reader, he had entirely forgotten that he totally needed an Energy Cube so he could blast into the top of the pyramid. There was no other way it could possibly be done, and there certainly was not a proper secret entrance that he wasn’t aware of which could’ve prevented a great many things from happening in the near future of this tale.

More than a little annoyed now, the squirrel ran back into his ship, slammed the door behind him, and powered up the engines. It was time to retrace his steps and find the cube that he left behind in the jungle. But little did he know that it had already been found!!

Multiple hours prior, a group of squettles was on the run from Squettle Village after it burned to the ground, and they just so happened to run right past the place where the squirrel hid the second Energy Cube in a bush. It would’ve been a great spot to hide a bright, yellow, glowing, and fairly visible cube if it wasn’t for… well… you know. The squettles saw that cube and snatched it real good.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

By the time the squirrel reached the bush he hid the cube in, it was halfway across the nearest ocean on a small raft with four squettles. His only option left was to find that human and take the cube by force. Shouldn’t be that hard, thought the squirrel.

Hoofa, still awake, was the first to notice the arrival of the squirrel’s ship. She was still staring out at the ocean and thinking sad things, but the engine of the spaceship interrupted her thoughts. Looking behind herself, she saw the squirrel’s ship landing on the beach, and behind it, the jungle was ablaze. And sprawled out on the beach right by the ship was Plagiarize, with their Energy Cube!! Hoofa was very shocked by this, as I’m sure you would also be if you were her in this particular scenario. I know I would be. Shocked, that is.

The next few events occurred in a merely a couple of seconds. The door of the squirrel’s ship opened, and Hoofa spotted the squirrel with the Yalmton and Balongus bracelets on either of his wrists. The dog began to whip out her Barrel Gun, which had been set on the sand beside her. When she saw a Yalmton-colored glow coming from the squirrel’s wrist, though, she entered panic mode and sped up her gun-grabbing significantly.

By the time Hoofa pulled the trigger on the Barrel Gun, it was too late.
