Chapter 90: Atop the Pyramid

The squirrel’s Yalmton Bracelet was about to fire lasers directly at Plagiarize before it fizzled out. As it turned out, it was completely out of charge and he would have to wait for it to recharge. Before the squirrel could react, though, he was smacked by a barrel at high velocity and knocked unconscious.

“TAKE THAT, YOU STUPID SQUIRREL!!” yelled Hoofa. By this point, everyone else was waking up.

“What the heck just happened?” asked Plagiarize, getting up from the sand he was laying on. “I was having a nice nap!”

“Plagiarize!!” yelled Bird, jumping off the top of The Stack. “What happened??”

Everyone was very eager to hear how Plagiarize’s plan to get to the squirrel’s ship and rescue everyone else went terribly wrong. And so he explained the whole thingamajig. Mushpuff took the Yalmton Bracelet from the squirrel’s wrist, and Bird finally got the Balongus Bracelet from his other wrist. Bird took the squirrel’s keys and everyone piled into the ship. The next stop was the Pyramid of Corn. The squirrel was to be abandoned on the beach, because there was really no reason to kill him. It was entirely improbable that he would ever make his way back to the gang, so why bother?

And now, after a very unnecessarily long series of events, the gang finally found themselves standing on top of the Pyramid of Corn with nothing to stop them. Plagiarize handed Klumpkrump the Energy Cube to do the honors of breaking and entering.

“Huzzah!” shouted she, the cat, shooting a beam of energy down at the pyramid’s top. Alas, instead of smacking through the pyramid, the beam smacked into a magical shield and nothing even happened at all. Oh no! Who could’ve expected this? Nobody, that’s who.

“AHA!” shouted the squirrel, jumping off the top of the ship. “I suspected this might happen!”

It turned out that just as the ship was powering up to leave, the squirrel had regained consciousness and jumped aboard. Everyone was now scrambling to kill him using whatever means necessary.

“WAIT!” yelled he, the rodent. “I have important knowledge of this here pyramid! And if you don’t kill me, I can share it with you guys! But if I die, it’s gone forever! So what’s it gonna be?!”

Despite everyone’s collective hatred for this squirrel, they all agreed that they totally needed to know how to get inside this pyramid, because they were looking for an artifact, after all! And it was likely inside this pyramid because, well, it seemed like a very big, obvious, and important thing.

“Tell it to us, then, yo!” said Bird. He, Klumpkrump, Hoofa, Plagiarize, and Mushpuff all brandished their weapons at him as he spoke in case he attempted any hijinx.

“Well I can’t very well tell it when you’re all THREATENING me like that!!” explained the squirrel. “It’s too stressful! Too much pressure!”

“Well TOO BAD then!!” yelled Plagiarize. “We’re not that STUPID!!!”

“In that case, it looks like I’ll just have to be on my way,” said the squirrel, inching away from the group. “Too bad I couldn’t share my important secrets on this pyramid. A real shame!!”

“...okay, fine!!” said Plagiarize. “Y’all, put down your weapons.”

“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” asked Mushpuff questioningly.

“Well, we gotta get into this pyramid somehow.”

“I’m sure we could figure it out ourselves without the squirrel’s help. He’s too full of tricks.”

“Aw, come on!!” yelled the squirrel. “I’ll tell you everything I know about it!! Don’t you want to know why there’s a freaking giant floating pyramid!!!”

“Yes I do!” said Klumpkrump, who had already put the Energy Cube down on the ground. “I’m all ears, squirrel!”

“You guys are way too trusting,” said Mushpuff. “Why don’t we do things my way?”

“Yo, what’s your way?” asked Bird.

“Watch and learn.”

Without warning, Mushpuff got on all fours and rushed at the squirrel. The squirrel shrieked and started running, too, but he was far too slow. Mushpuff grabbed him by the neck with his claws and pinned him to the floor. His other paw (the one with the Yalmton Bracelet) was aimed at the squirrel.

“If you don’t quit being difficult in five seconds, squirrel, I will personally blast you to bits.”

The squirrel was about to respond before he saw something behind Mushpuff’s face.

“Look!” shouted the squirrel. “The squettles! They’re getting away!”

Mushpuff, alarmed, looked back behind himself. So did Plagiarize, Bird, Snorter, Hoofa, Qaeron, and Klumpkrump. There was, of course, nothing there. It was merely an opportunity for the squirrel to slip out of Mushpuff’s grasp and make a mad dash to the Energy Cube that Klumpkrump dropped on the ground.
