Since there wasn’t a reason to see a doctor, Jessica was fine healing on her own. There wasn’t a terribly bad misinterpretation of the doctor. Reality wasn’t as far-fetched as his theory. Normally, a person moved with other people. A party of random individuals wasn’t a hard thing to come by. Not just one or two untalented or those that had found the wrong career were living inside dungeons. One didn’t need training or school to learn these activities.
Those physically fit that found themselves lost or without a goal often were lured in by the prospect of a big payday. When they realize they’re not fit for this line of work. It was already too late, by then they had the means to live in their city and could make ends meet with the experience they gained through using their life as collateral. They turned out to be exceptional guides for beginner dungeons.
If it wasn’t for the fact Jessica didn’t trust other people, she could maybe make a living from dungeons. Her job killing people had shown her she had exceptional talent with her physical body. Possibly for the same reasons. The wrist injury was actually the worst of the two she received. The arm jab looked worse than it was. A clean cut had chunked her, but with further inspection the wound was a deep cut that would heal on its own, only being real nasty to look at.
Her other arm was the same one that had been seriously injured before. It had healed, this didn’t mean it didn’t bother her and make her worry. Healing magic existed. It was far and few between, most would travel to temples, but she detested temples more than she did other people. Healing magic not from a priest from a temple was something that could possibly only be seen in remote locations or the north. To be more specific, the chaotic Mercury City.
Jessica knew she was in a great deal of trouble. Her injuries weren’t very terrible, a number of days would still be required to heal. Real issue came knocking on the door that occurred earlier in the morning. Victorina was there with a shady smile on his face as he looked at her. His smile became a bit more friendly when he saw the state of both injuries. She originally thought it was just an employee leaving the breakfast at the door and didn’t expect to see anyone there.
“Beast wants to see you within three days.” Smiling with a smile that sent goosebumps down her arms. He turned away and only turned back to lift a piece of bacon to his mouth as he winked at her. It was only at that moment did she smell food, which had been laying in front of her door.
She could feel a sense of discomfort even coming from the boy, “What is up with that person?”
Picking up the food with a complicated expression, Jessica didn’t speak immediately. Only after taking a few bites did she find the right words, “Scammer, swindler, and womanizer. Ah, also an escape artist and extremely petty.”
Hearing a string of harsh words, the boy just silently pondered. Seeing his expression, she finished her food. Once she was done, she could see the boy still found himself interested in the story. Thinking of the first time they met, she could only lay down on the bed with a look of reminiscing.
Back then, she was still a young child, or that is how she saw herself. Instead, what one would see when looking at her was a rather apathetic looking child around the age of twelve or thirteen. Around that time, Jessica had long blue hair that went down to her waist. It drew a lot of attention, if she was back home, she would have cut her hair a long time ago. During this period of time, she was taking the incisively abusive tests from Uncle Beast.
Just failing a test, she was out and looking around to recuperate from the crushing defeat of the arbitrary rapid fire questions that kept changing to supposedly ensure she didn’t just memorize the previous set. Anything from the shapes a metal could take to be a working dagger to the total length, in the end it even had stupid questions like what gems would look best in a specific dagger. It was a bunch of nonsense that didn’t really have much impact on better understanding or wielding the weapon like Uncle Beast really said.
After ever failure, she was given the right to go out and binge on anything she wanted. From sweets to the most luxurious foods she could possibly find. Everything would be paid for, and she could treat herself in any way she wanted, just not in the way she wanted. Most of the time she found herself not in a café but a weapon’s shop that sold daggers. Still, nobody in these shops ever dared sell her anything, let alone they would just get demolished from the trash in uncle’s trash bin.
For this reason, she made a difficult choice. Taking a left instead of a right, she found herself in a row of garment shops. Soon after, she found the most expensive dress shop in Aruna. Obviously, she didn’t go inside and went across the street. Aruna merchants were just as crafty as human merchants, maybe it was a job requirement. Across, the most expensive and famous shop she could never remember the name of, was absolutely, hands down, best pastry shop in Aruna.
Even when knowing her uncle kept making her fail on purpose to stop her from playing with dangerous weapons. Jessica still wanted to yell child abuse to emotionally manipulate her so obviously by showing her the fact his weapons even when unstable and trash could demolish everything she could get her hands on. This emotional abuse was clear, as she wasn’t raised to be stupid. Only effect because she knew for what she wanted, she couldn’t go about it half-heartedly.
After reading and hearing about failure after failure because of stupid mistakes during youth. She had been taught at a young age that there was someone higher than herself. Even if she became the strongest or smartest in the world, to never forget that somewhere, maybe not even knowing. There was someone that may or might not of had the opportunity she had. If they had, they would be above her in any regard she could find. A victory by default was a powerful thing, but it was a reason not to get conceited, and a reason to never stop trying to improve.
In the old man’s words, “If you’re going to do something, do it right. Life is short, don’t waste it. With even a little bit of research, you can save yourself multitudes of years of mistakes.”
As she ordered a bunch of items, she looked disheartened around her. She had ordered too much. Part of this was why she was probably why she was receiving so many peeks. Other reason, probably had to do with being across from that shop while wearing a basic leather set. It was something that people around her were whispering about, being a simple adventurer. Though they would be right as she had applied and been accepted as a Grade F adventurer.
Though, her leading suspicion had to do with the strange man that had sat across from her at some unknown time. He was beautiful, though from a certain aspect he wasn’t that attractive. To her, who had grown up around numerous elves. She knew from their perspective, he was average at best. Still, the peeks she was receiving when she was sitting alone with a large assortment of pastries had gone up drastically when this man appeared.

Without delay, Jessica could easily see the man sitting across from her was not a typical elf, so her nasty expression had softened considerable. Maybe for that reason, the man was so ballsy to sit down. It could be considered to be well-mannered when he couldn’t stop making noise. His mouth had only opened to flash her a smile, instead it was his stomach that had not stopped talking since he sat down.
Picking up a cupcake, she put it into her mouth as she let the sugar numb her disappointment as she gestured for the man to have some. Without standing on ceremony, he started to eat without any care. His image was already shaky and while he was beautiful, the other guests of Aruna only looked on with disappointment by his conduct. They didn’t understand elves, even outliers like this one were still elves. None of them really cared about stupid things like image. Though maybe for outliers that was not as true.
She did get a few looks of concern, still in the end they knew that if the man had tried anything, he would never be able to leave the city. These looks mainly came from a few employees that seemed to know who she was. Still, the man didn’t say or do anything until he finished eating.
“It wasn’t very filling, but my goodness the food was delicious.” His voice was carefree and friendly.
Seeing the table that was once full now empty, she frowned slightly, it wasn’t like the food was actually free. Someone was paying, it just wasn’t her. It was also clear it wouldn’t be the elf, “For an elf you’re not very observant. In fact, as an outlier you’re almost defective, I have never seen any elf ignore their surroundings as much as you have. If you look over there…” Pointing her finger, “…it is clear this is just a small shop meant to exploit the surround store customers. Just by looking around, it is clear to see they deliver to make their business even more successful. It is not a restaurant to begin with.”
Finally, Jessica saw a reasonable action from the man across from her, frowning as he looked at her, “You’re not very child-like.”
With a petty smile, she only spoke one word, “Thanks.”
Before anything could go further, a group of soldiers appeared. They weren’t alone, and there was some type of nobleman and one knight with a hardened expression. The soldiers looked annoyed, but outside of showing it on their faces, they didn’t exactly seem to be showing it outside of that. Walking into the story, the nobleman pointed at the elf and shouted in a restrained voice, “You!”
The elf didn’t look worried and turn to look at him, “Me!” As if attempting to antagonist him further using the same tone of voice as he did.
The soldiers had a person she recognized. He was the guard captain, showing a lazy expression on his face as he seemed to be ignoring the commotion as he didn’t seem to care. No matter what happened, so long as the nobleman knew he was no longer in his territory and didn’t do anything untoward. Only once he glanced over he saw her and his expression hardened as he whispered something to one of the knights before a signal was given. The soldiers moved a bit. Once grouped up, they now surrounded the two. Part of the group were standing between the noble and her. While another set moved behind her to show their stance.
By this point, she didn’t yet understand the level of greatness of her uncle. Therefore, when she saw this, she was a bit nervous before she saw the guard captain smile gently at her before he nodded at her. With some surprise, she quickly relaxed before she now found the situation fun and interesting. She wasn’t really involved anyway. Now that she didn’t have to worry too much about her safety, she was planning to watch the drama unfold.
Jessica didn’t need to make it a difficult decision, as even the knight with the noble realized the situation as he kept looking between the arguing elf and her. Only seeing the soldiers behind her did he stop looking at her as he calmed down a bit. Still, he kept trying to get the noble to calm down. Nobles were arrogant by nature, they wouldn’t normally cause this much of a scene, however after what was done he could understand. The problem was that the elf was no longer in their territory, but much worse, he was in the Dwarf Kingdom.
As they were very accepting and good-natured, it wasn’t difficult to imagine their image in people’s heads. The east coast was known as the bastion of peace. The issue was that, many didn’t know why this was true. She believed this as well. The first time she came, she asked the old man about it, he told her the real reason this was true. Dwarves were the masters of war. Their machines made it so that even the dragons thought twice before attacking the east coast. Throughout history, there had only been two wars that involved dwarves. Both were the bloodiest and caused such a huge decrease in population that both wars left at least one race on the brink of extinction.
Not getting his way, the noble looked at her as he shouted, “Why are you socializing with this degenerate?!” Seeing her attire, he was about to open his mouth before the knight physically grabbed the back of his neck before applying mana. The noble looked horrified before looking comical as if a red paint brush had been swiped over his face. Only after hearing what his knight’s explanation was, did he calm down slightly before looking at the dwarves before he turned a bit pale.
Seeing the drama wasn’t going anywhere, she could see that it was starting to get dark, and she had grown bored, “I was just enjoying some peace when he showed up. His stomach was growling, and so I decided to allow him to eat the leftovers. I am not involved in anything to do with him. Therefore, I will take my leave.”
She wasn’t anyone special, still she tried to not be looked down on by using speech that she had read in books. It felt unnatural and long-winded, however it amply applied her intent. Getting up, she bowed slightly to the guard captain before thanking the soldiers behind her and those that separated her from the noble. As she was leaving, she heard an unnatural silence but didn’t want to turn around. Only the door took too long to close. Surely he wasn’t going to follow her…
Once she returned to the shop, she saw Uncle Beast behind the counter as he watched her come in with some strange man. With narrow eyes, the elf behind her that she had been ignoring all this time seem to panic a bit. Finally turning around for the first time, she saw the man looking at her nervously before getting on his hands in knees. She was flabbergasted, as he had not once showed any nervousness in front of the noble or the soldiers. “Please save me!”
“What did he do?” The boy couldn’t help cutting into her reminiscing when she got to that point.
With a heavy sigh, “The first thing he told me? Or the truth?”
The boy didn’t answer and just looked at her strangely, only when he remembered how she described him did he seem to get an inkling of what she meant.
“He lied and didn’t say the entire truth, so I guess he just blended the truth. Only once my uncle talked to the noble did he find out exactly what he did. Still uncle helped him, in exchange Victorina helped around the shop before later becoming his disciple.”
“So what did he do?” Asking again, she found it troublesome to even speak about.
“To understand that, you need to understand who Victorina is. He has never told me his real name. Instead, Victorina is the name of the elf he fell in love with. From an elf aspect he wasn’t that attractive and as an outlier he was, even more so, discriminated against. So to spite her, he took her name and went around sleeping with different woman. Basically spreading her name as a womanizing bastard.”
Taking a breath, she wanted to stop but didn’t seem appropriate, “To be fair, he only knowingly slept with single women who were looking for a casual fling. Even when I later looked up stories about him, while it is true like in the instance with the noble. Some of the woman turned out to be married. He never pursues such woman. In reality, the noble never did anything and is still married to his wife. It wasn’t a marriage of love. He can’t divorce her, as it was her family that allowed him to inherent his family as head of the family.”
Not trying to justify her actions, “With what I found out, he had cheated on his wife repeatedly. Noble society is just that dirty.”
