Findings (192)

Findings (192)

With two days, Jessica was able to establish a basic understanding of her surroundings. From what she could see, there were two major obstacles she would face while moving in the first layer.

The first was a group of monkeys that had territory in both the first and second layer. Dayo had mentioned that there was a group of moneys that had territory in multiple layers. When he talked about it, there was some fear in his tone.

She didn’t exactly understand at the time. He mentioned a Grade B night monkey was the leader of a huge group. But because they spanned multiple layers. One of the very few creatures to actively settle in multiple parts.

Working as a boundary of sorts, like a tale of a valiant knight in shiny armor. The intelligence of this night monkey was thought-provoking. Starting with a small group, he took control with his high grade to dominate in weaker territory.

Using that as a springboard. Dayo talked of this night monkey moving from the first layer into the second. Repeating the process once it had a stable hold. From there the monkey created a retreat path so that when it inevitably broke into Grade B as it later did. It could push deeper in.

The reason Jessica didn’t think much of this, was that the night monkey hadn’t been seen in a long time. Without that lead figure, she found it hard to believe that its establish hold would continue to prosper.

Dayo never bothered with her point of view. He didn’t confirm if she was even remotely right or not. Instead, waiting for her to see it herself. Seeing it now, she found that Grade E monkeys would move between the first and second layer.

Possibly being unlucky, she even saw a Grade D come. It was able to notice something was off, and she was chased for a few hours through the forest.

As for the second, that was wild dogs. It was in her favor that they didn’t appear to have any graded dogs in their group. The unfortunate part of this was that their numbers were truly unrivaled.

The two obstacles would on occasion fight. While the moneys had normal and graded monkeys. The vast expanse of large wild dogs could overrun the monkeys in pure numbers.

It was the first time Jessica had seen them. Dayo hadn’t said much on them. All she could do was look and gather information on them herself.

She was rather unfamiliar with the concept of wild dogs. The only time she ran into them was random small groups that roamed looking for food. While there were places that had them, they were not a large number of them in the south.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

So seeing this group, was a new experience. They were much larger than she had expected, possibly from the mana in the surroundings. Or maybe part of a mutation that allowed them to survive in a place with graded beasts.

Most familiar with fur coated dogs, these wild dogs had leathery skin. Darker colors, monstrous in size. There were a few she saw fighting with the large gorillas that could probably swallow a small dog in a single bite.

The problem with them was that they had keen noses. She could get closer to the moneys when there wasn’t a Grade D, very rarely would any of the monkey species seem to notice her. So long as she kept her distance.

These wild dogs, without mana could smell her out if she reached a hundred feet of them. Their large sizes made it difficult for her to imagine what the outcome would be if she had to go head-to-head against them.

Without doubt, like the Grade F monkeys, Jessica could imagine a Grade F being torn apart by sharp claws and teeth. With their sheer numbers, it was unlikely to even be a scrap of clothing left after they were devoured.

Agile or with great endurance, if a Grade E was able to realize the danger before being surrounded. It was possible to possibly escape. As a Grade D, Jessica was fairly confident she could win in a fight.

What she couldn’t determine was the outcome of it. As a Grade D, she now had to deal with her lower mana talent. It didn’t just determine her ability to absorb mana. This included building her foundation.

Grade F and E were about using mana to distance themselves from a non-graded being. While once one made it to Grade D a foundation was necessary. If one didn’t they risked a shaky foundation that might collapse.

As with mana, higher grades took time to build up. This was done inside the body. As mana was absorbed by normal beings, it could slowly benefit them throughout their lives to a tiny margin.

After reaching Grade E, mana was going through a change that completed at Grade D. This higher tier mana was high enough that after breaking through, mana is heavily absorbed by the body to compensate for being unable to handle this higher tier mana.

Therefore, it could be imagined that if a person had a shaky foundation. If they tried to speed through Grade D into Grade C, their bodies would break during the breakthrough. A miserable death would ensue.

With her current foundation, she had no doubt she would win and survive the fight against these wild dogs. Only this would require a large, drawn out battle. She had watched and knew that the dogs were not as smart when compared to the monkeys, but they were by no means stupid.

Thus, in the end, the sheer numbers overpowered the intelligent monkeys. So the beginning would be important. Only she didn’t have much crowd control. After a while, she would run out of mana. Because of her foundation, her body was strong enough to combat the dogs without mana.

From that end, by the time everything was said and done. She would probably look like an undead. Parts of her skin would be ripped off, showing red insides, or white bones. Very likely end up with missing limbs. Breathing would likely be difficult.

Ultimately, she would survive, which might be worse than if she just died. Just shuttering at the thought.

Feeling a slight vibration, she took out a compass. Following the direction, she soon found a tiny camp.
