Scouts (100)

Scouts (100)

A crimson mist of blood and mana cycled through the air. Of the five, only two produced this mist. Everything became deathly silent.

Three wolves stood on four legs, large in size, they stared down everyone at the scene. Two that produced mist went from four to two legs. One looked no different from anyone else, without any characteristics showing they were anything but human.

Both had gray hair. At the moment, nobody moved. The Grade B man had fled long before, while the Grade C had left just seconds prior.

Claire and Jack were in a bad spot. There were cuts covering the two. In retrospect, their condition wasn’t the worst.

Both Jessica and Saleh were both unconscious. Of everyone here, outside the Grade B woman, these two received the most attention from the gray wolves.

Neither could do anything about the woman, however, she was clearly human. She wasn’t the reason they came here. It was only after they traced that smell here did they realize there was even a people here.

“That’s him.” Rubbing the head of one of the wolves as they seemed to communicate through unknown methods.

Taking one glance at the Grade B woman, they both looked over at Saleh. Only sparing Jessica a few looks. After whispering to each other, they wryly watched the Grade B as they sent the three wolves away.

Seeing that she didn’t stop them from leaving, the two relaxed slightly. Silence was broken soon after. With a bit of tension in the air, the Grade B moved over to the group that was left behind in the chaos. “Anyone that moves will die.” Looking over at the two, “Go check up on those two, then clean up your wounds.”

Being in line with their own thinking, even if it wasn’t, they didn’t dare say or do otherwise. It was only once they moved closer, were they stopped.

Of the two, a woman with short hair pulled back stood out to stop the two. In a voice neither bowing nor overly aggressive, “If you’re worried about these two, we can take care of them.”

While they were not forcing the issue, they were also not allowing Claire or Jack to move closer. Only once the Grade B woman nodded did the man pull out something from his robe, moving to take care of the two that were heavily injured.

With a look of hesitation, the woman could only step forward once more, “I would like to know what happened here.”

From an outside perspective, asking this while only being Grade C was a bit arrogant. Especially when a Grade B was at the scene. Only this was Gray Wolf Tribe land. The tone she was taking wasn’t a demand, instead more of a request for cooperation.

Seeing the Grade B ignore her, she had a bit of a frown that deepened before she also turned in the direction that the Grade B was looking in. After that she relaxed as she didn’t speak anymore.

Having only left a few moments ago, it was rather surprising backup had already arrived. While only being a single person, it didn’t matter. This person was by no means weaker, and from the atmosphere, it appeared he was stronger than the Grade B on the other side.

When this person arrived, he had a frown on his face. He looked around before his pupils shrank slightly as he studied the woman. He wasn’t intentionally being loud or over bearing. However, without knowing the exact situation, he came with his mana flaring ready to deal with anything that might happen.

This caused the caravan people to fall to their knees. Claire and Jack stumbled as their legs almost gave out. The Grade B woman even grunted slightly. The two that had stayed behind didn’t react as much, though it was clear that they too were briefly affected by the mana.

“You’re from the Adventurer’s Guild?” He had seen the woman somewhere before, he just wasn’t sure where. The first power that came to mind was Adventurer’s Guild.

“Joana, we are on request to escort this caravan to the Gray Wolf Tribe.”

Seeing the look on his face, caused everyone to feel worse. It was clear this person didn’t have any knowledge of this caravan. That, didn’t bode well for the situation.

With shaky legs, Marvin had to use the edge of the carriage to stand. He almost fell over when his actions drew the attention of the Grade B from the Gray Wolf Tribe.

However, things quickly turned around when the Grade B squinted and spoke before Marvin could, “Marvin? Hah, it seems you have aged.”

With a helpless smile, what else could he say to this. “Yes, that is me.”

It was clear, Marvin didn’t know who this man was. Though, the important part was that the man knew him. “What exactly happened here?”

“Since you know me, I will excuse the unnecessary.” Seeing no complaints, he continued, “On our way, we were ambushed by a bandit group. In a desperate attempt to protect the cargo destined for the Gray Wolf Tribe, the adventurers I hired were injured by those disgraceful people.”

The man didn’t say anything to this. Using some unknown technique, he sent word back to the tribe. Those daring to steal in their territory. That didn’t need to be said. The man had grabbed one and ripped his limbs off one by one.

The rest, didn’t dare hold back and spilled everything. While the sight was visible to the caravan people. As for what they said, it was something nobody but maybe Joana could hear.

Told to make camp. A group of gray wolves had come. It appeared they wouldn’t be allowed any further in.

Jessica and Saleh were currently being treated in a makeshift tent. Once the wolves were done with treatment, they left the care of the two to Claire and Jack.

While it was somewhat cruel, their job was to protect the caravan. Therefore, these injuries were in line with what they had signed up for. Even if Marvin wished to do anything to aid them, he didn’t have a doctor with him.

Everything was already taken care of by the wolf tribe. All Claire and Jack did was watch over to make sure there were no complications. The Gray Wolf Tribe had left people to watch over everything. Even if the two wanted to do something, it was clear the gray wolves wished to talk to the two, once they recovered. Thus, they had to ask permission before attempting anything if they didn’t want to die while in their territory.
