Snow Wolf (141)

Snow Wolf (141)

As only a few days had passed. The outside world was filled with snow. To combat this, they would usually not do long distance travel.

For non-graded beings, this was the norm. It wasn’t that those healthy and strong bodied people couldn’t do it. It was simply troublesome. At best was the traveling between a small town or village and a major city that kept the road maintenance every few days.

Outside of this, if someone wanted to go a long distance. It wasn’t food that was the biggest issue. Neither could you say it was water. The biggest problem was warmth.

Long distance travel required a constant fire. Even Jessica, a Grade E, needed to light fires at night. A graded being had many methods to deal with this. At the worst case, they had extremely flammable materials.

Importance of this couldn’t be underestimated. For a graded being, they could do without, however, mana was used as fuel to keep them going. Sleeping at night without warmth required the use of mana subconsciously to keep warm and your body in a working condition.

If one became mana deprived, this could cause severe consequences. From unconditional weakness, to headaches and migraines. An extreme mana deprivation turned a graded being into someone weaker than a non-graded being.

Now, it could be easily understood why non-graded beings didn’t travel during winter. Therefore, to move around with Cassie required special tools. Mercury City was not a city meant for non-graded beings.

Even then, money was the all powerful equalizer. Looking around, Jessica couldn’t help but become sad at her current surroundings. Letting out a sigh, she could only focus on the extreme wonder in Cassie’s eyes as she looked at the surrounding scenes.

Currently, the two of them were inside a room. This room was a carriage. There were two seats that were lined with very soft padding. Ensuring that this trip would be very comfortable. A small amount of mana could be felt from the surrounding walls.

These very minute traces of mana were formations designed for a number of things. The first was obviously defense, she suspected there were probably even offensive uses for the formations. Another thing she was sure of was, isolation.

Outside was cold. Inside was nice and toasty. Cassie was even sweating very lightly. As her thoughts continued to wander, the carriage slowly started to come to a slow. Eventually it stopped completely.

Jessica stopped Cassie from disembarking. She waited for a second before there was a knock on the door. Once she heard this, Jessica opened the door before stepping down before confirming the surroundings were clear.

Cassie finally came out giggling along the way. There was instantly a blush on her face as she met the cold air, “You are worrying too much.”

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

Jessica turned towards her, “It is better to be more worried than less. Especially when it concerns your safety.”

“Oh, are you that worried about me? Or are you worried about what happens to you if something happens to me?”

Jessica and Saleh shared a glance and almost spoke simultaneously, “Latter.”

“Ouch, how heartless.” Cassie made an exaggerated face of pain.

Saleh turned towards her to ask, “Would you rather we lie?”

A soft smile appeared on her face, “No, honesty is refreshing. Regardless if you want to hear it. Often times, people in my position, are often spared such truth. Instead, it requires us to figure it out ourselves.”

After clearing the area of snow, Jessica moved back to the carriage. From outside, there wasn’t much different. Only, instead of wheels, there was a type of long broad sled underneath. The carriage didn’t drive through the snow, instead it went over the snow.

At the moment, there was a gigantic wolf sitting on top of the snow in front of the carriage. Hearing her approach, the wolf opened its eyes as it scanned her before watching her with caution.

Neither party was yet used to the other. Taking out a bowl from her spacial bag, she filled it with water before placing it a distance away from it. Only when she backed away a few steps did the wolf stand up to drink from the bowl.

As the creature stood, it could be seen how truly monstrous its size was. In all honesty, the wolf looked like a very large horse. Instead of a long neck, it had a mounted wolf head with a fairly small neck. In general, it was just a normal wolf, outside its insanely large size.

Thought, in the same sense, it was a beautiful creature. Even when drinking, its dark blue eyes were staring at her the entire time. Not letting its guard down in the slightest. There was velvet soft looking white fur that she had immense desire to touch.

However, she wasn’t dumb enough to do that. This creature was only Grade F. With its size and weight, along with its natural abilities. Jessica was a bit scared of it. Part of the reason was that when the wolf walked, its claws didn’t sink into the snow.

This was a mutated snow wolf. Though that didn’t do it justice. This was a mutated wolf of multiple generations. That was the act of breeding two strong creatures together to give birth to a mutated pup. From there they find a second and breed the two together.

Weeding out the undesirables. In the end, something like this appeared. With only Grade F mana, Jessica had a feeling this creature might be a difficult creature to kill. Having not used anything besides its inmate ability to walk on snow, combined with its physical abilities to pull the large sled with a carriage built on top. She was unsure of its other abilities.

Jessica returned to the other two. By this time, a fire had been started. The entire reason Cassie came down from the carriage was to get some fresh air. Outside of that, Saleh had driven, therefore he was in charge of cooking.

While in actual fact, it was more heating up. Since she was resting inside the carriage, it was her job to take care of the snow wolf combined with being on first watch. Once the food was done they ate, Jessica brought a bowl over for the wolf.

As night fell, Cassie returned to the carriage as Jessica was sitting by the fire. Saleh was resting on top of the carriage. The fire was built a bit away. This allowed Saleh to be hidden from view. The first line of defense was Jessica by the fire in plain sight.

Secondly, was the wolf that was sleeping soundly in front of the carriage. And finally, the last line of defense was Saleh. Saleh had gotten in hands on a fire stone that allowed him to sleep soundly without worrying about the cold. Allowing him to remain invisibly on top of the carriage in case of an emergency.
