As time continued to flow. Jessica found herself unable to make much progress with the technique. She had entered a period of adjustment.
Having continued to use the technique to meditate for a year. She had solidified her nodes. Her use of mana was increased by another level. What she was looking forward to, was not just this small benefit.
Her abilities would reach a new zenith, all she had to do was unlock a bit of the profoundness that was locked within the technique. Unfortunately, this required some type of enlightenment or a suitable situation that synchronized her mindset with that of the intended target of the technique.
Having asked, Victorina could only console her, “Your father made the technique for you. Therefore, with time you will come to understand it. Since I am an elf, and you are human. It only required me to return to a more natural state for an elf.”
At the time, he had pondered for a moment, “While I have an advantage in this case. In the end, the technique I learned was not the original. Everwood wrote that I learned your technique. The ingenious part of it is that the base technique is all that we need. Only with time will the hidden sides come to light as we ponder it.”
Seeing her face not looking any better, he could only bite the bullet, “You are getting too far ahead of yourself. While the technique was made for you. Even having been using a generic and prototype of the real thing. It took me three years as an elf to learn this. As an elf, I will progress faster than you in the beginning, but in the end this is a race you are destined to win. Just need to be patient.”
Opening her eyes, she had already lost concentration. Her mind had wondered, and the effectiveness of her meditation was rock bottom. Therefore, she wasn’t bothered by the knock on the door. She had no idea where Victorina had run off to.
Instead of getting a place for himself, he had been bumming off her. In the year he had been here, Cassie had ended up just expanding her little house to include a small room for him. Having tried without success to get him to move out.
Opening the door, she was greeted by a familiar face, “What brings you here?”
Dayo was scratching his head, as he took a look around. In the time the Jessica had made it to Grade D, Dayo had broken through to Grade B and moved into the southwest. As she moved aside to allow him in, he didn’t yet say the reason for his visit.
After closing the door, he sat down, “It has been so long. The day you accepted her offer, I was forced out of my home.”
Rolling her eyes, “You were the one that told me to just use it as you never used it as you liked to stay with your animals. So stop pretending and tell me why you’re here.”
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
In the time that Jessica had become the student of Cassie, they had not seen each other often. For some unexplainable reason, Dayo seemed to enjoy annoying her. He had a way of circling the important piece of information that somehow got on her nerves.
Knowing that it was just the way he was, she could do nothing about it. He, too, didn’t go endlessly in circles, “Cassie told me to take along some dead weight. Saying something about needing to air it out before it gets rotten. Judging from how short tempted you are, it appears to be true.”
Hearing this, Jessica actually felt a little relieved. Having been looking, she had failed to find any requests that really interested her. She thought of going on a few subjugation requests. Only, they took too long, taking away too much time.
Seeing her happy look, Dayo didn’t wait long for a reply and just started to spill the beans, “The animals need more playmates. So we will go to a few of my hunting grounds. Find a few useful ones, and capture them before moving on.”
“Where do you plan to go this time?” Jessica had already seen what happen to past playmates. There was a reason the snow wolf that traveled with Jessica and Saleh was so scary in combat. Dayo was a very good teacher for animals.
“West forbidden zone.” Saying these words, he studied her face intently. Sure enough, a large smile plastered itself on his face when he saw her serious expression.
Without explaining more, he stood back up, “You just have to bring yourself. Everything else will be handled. Come at 10, we leave tonight.”
After seeing him out, Jessica turned back to the table. Looking at the note he left, it was a house near the outskirts of Mercury City. The house in question was in the northeast district.
Knowing better than to question why. She knew she would find out tonight. Only once the sun went down did Jessica inform Victorina who returned not too long of her prolonged absence. As she cloaked herself, she slowly made her way to the northeast.
From the quiet streets of the northwest, the northeast was as lively as ever. The sheer volume almost made one believe it was not dark, with the moon already making its way up. Instead, one was given the sense that with this many people, there was an event going on.
This was the difference in grades. The vast majority of graded beings were Grade F with the next being Grade E. While as a whole, Grade D was not rare, they were just not as common. Thus, for a single city, even if a popular one for graded beings. This was the reality.
Her appearance, that drew some looks, had now filtered in with others. Some with hoods like her, others on full display. As befitting of the volume, there were many more places open. Thus, the volume of traffic continued to see raises and falls as they shuttled through.
Taking a turn, she exited a group moving in the same direction. Placing her hand on the door, she let out a wisp of mana. Opening the door, she moved inside before having to open a second door. Once inside, she was greeted by the sight of Dayo waiting for her.
Seeing her, he glanced at a clock on the wall, “So punctual. Let’s go, they’re already waiting.”
Her confused had already been peaked. She was a bit nervous to be going back into another forbidden zone. Even if she wasn’t alone. It became even more cryptic as she found this house had a connection to outside the city.
It went without question that this was illegal. But it caused one to wonder why, as Mercury City didn’t have a wall. So what was the point.
