Quiet environments made concentration an easier accomplishment. Combined regular practiced with meditation. Garnishing on top was products of life in this city.
A situation where one heard no talking, breathing was silent. Those walking were very light on their feet. Even a suppression on pages turning. By nature, people here did most things quietly. In a place, noise was a contributing factor to being noticed.
Eyes would shift every so often. Those that felt gazes as a silent reminder to remain quiet. In such a place, it was even easier to find a sense of peace. Jessica had to admit, she really liked this place.
Contrary to when she used to read at home. There, the old man would constantly be around. Noises from the surrounding village, would be heard gently through the wood the house was made with. A constant reminder that she never belonged.
This place, was vastly better. It was a shame, she wasn’t talented at studying. Having from a young age been conditioned to study with interesting stories. Old man’s library was a bunch of books, usually written in dairy-like format.
Matter-of-factly, could be far more beneficial. It didn’t beat around the bush. Everything in it was taken to be a fact. Jessica found these conditions uncomfortable. Believing another person at their word was never a quality made decision. A million first person reports couldn’t contribute as much knowledge as a few personal experiences.
Linear knowledge never contributed to the fact of life. Things rarely went the way you wanted them. All life could adapt. Information fed didn’t make all that great absorption. Almost die and amount of details you would retain would last a lifetime.
Sighing with a bit of dejection. Who would want to learn through struggling if one could just absorb knowledge. However, life was simply that way. Don’t like it? Tough shit. Jessica had been reading for a few hours, and the amount of information she retained was limited.
Forcing the issue would do her no good. Standing up, she quietly put the books back before leaving. Walking through the main hall, she paused slightly. Glancing at the requests, she thought back to what Joe told her.
Eventually, she left without taking a second look. As she left, she felt uncomfortable. Slowly turning around, she saw a smiling face. Jessica couldn’t place it, they looked familiar, however she couldn’t remember from what.
Contributing it to her imagination. She turned around and left. Scoffing at herself, she wasn’t in the mood to be embarrassed by thinking the person he was looking for was her.
Thinking to herself, “No need to wave at someone in a crowd, only to find out they’re waving at someone behind her.”
As for the man that was sitting against the wall of the building. He had his smile crack as he watched her departing figure. Strangely enough, nobody seemed to notice him. If they did, they would see an Adventurer’s Guild insignia on his chest.

Everyone that worked for the Adventurer’s Guild wore one. Even the man that helped Jessica before had one. There were some differences. There were four crescent lines on both. Each bent similarly. Splitting the insignia in half.
The man behind the counter had two letters representing “AV” for Adventurer’s Guild at the forefront of the insignia. While Fred had a number on his. The difference between the two were large.
One represented a single entity. Others represented a specific power. Adventurer’s Guild as a whole was one power. Even still, there were still twelve elders. Each elder had their own people. Therefore, it went obviously, he belonged to a force belonging to one of the elders.
Since he waited this long, he decided to go up to her. He knew she saw him, the two locked eyes. Even though she clearly didn’t remember him. To him, it was a bit hurtful. Though he could understand, he only showed himself once, and he was connected to a bad memory for her.
However, for him. Even just slightly, her face was a remembrance of his sister. To turn around their first meeting, today he planned to turn their meeting into a good one. Even if just a selfish desire of himself. With enough benefits he believed she would still agree.
After confirming, it was the same Jessica. He was planning to introduce her to someone behind him. He was high enough to make contact with the elder he worked for. So introducing Jessica to join them wouldn’t be too difficult.
While he could meet the elder, he wasn’t stupid enough to have them come in person. He would likely have his head cut off if he tried to do that. His elder wasn’t against nepotism. So long as they were worth it, he however, knew it couldn’t be so obvious.
As they moved, he actually lost track of her. It wasn’t deliberate. No, she entered a house that cut off her presence. Turning to look, he realized the place she entered was a place that he had to be a bit careful around.
Joe was a bit famous. Mainly because of Timmy. Making matters worse, a big shot was currently here that showed some favor of Timmy. Therefore, in this current moment, he had to be extra careful here. Still, he could be said to have a relationship with Jessica, if just briefly.
Entering, he looked around for the first time. Hearing about something was different from seeing it. Very quickly, he was able to see Joe. He was currently drinking with someone at a table. Jessica was also there.
Seeing this, he smiled and nodded at Joe. Seeing his questioning look he turned to Jessica who happened to turn back.
With a bit of helplessness, he saw confusion in her eyes, “Did you forget about me already?”
It was only at that moment, Jessica remembered where she had seen that face before. “Fred? You were the one that was friends with John…”
“Yes.”
There was a clearing of the throat at this moment. Knowing where he was, he didn’t dare be too impolite, regardless of how rude it was to interrupt someone. He turned his head until he was halfway there.
Fred thought of something he wasn’t able to register before, the person drinking with Joe was unknown. He knew there was someone there, but he failed to register who this person was. As if subconsciously given a signal to ignore him.
Subtle influence, something only an extremely powerful person could do. Cold sweat flowed down his back. He didn’t dare look over and hurriedly bowed, “Greetings Senior!”
An exaggerated sigh escaped this person’s lips. Joe had a strange expression on his face, turning to the man who he was drinking with, “Now that I think about it, it seems weird you came unannounced. What brought you here?”
“This guy wanted me to invite someone to join my force. He asked someone and I heard about it, so I came instead.”
Joe’s particular appearance was because the number on the man’s chest was twelve, which represented he was a person under Azeban who was sitting at the table. Clearly he knew Jessica but failed to realize Azeban had come himself.
Strange people having strange subordinates… Somehow it made sense.
