Renewal (189)

Renewal (189)

After moving through a large tunnel, they came out a fair distance away. The city was not in actual sight. What was a questionable decision became less complicated.

As they moved through a small passageway, they were met with a tunnel with a size that could fit multiple carriages. It was very clear that this passage was something set up by the city, not an individual.

This was completely different from the individual pathways that were able to connect different properties. In fact, the house they had used to get here was not part of the listed properties that Jessica knew about.

Jessica could now confirm, that her original thoughts about Mercury City and the tunnels Cassie had showed her. The underground of Mercury City was a maze of pathways. The underground tunnel also connected to the formation, meaning the tunnel doubled as a military channel.

A carriage could be seen in the distance. Sitting quietly, having been there for an unknown time. As they approached, Cassie opened the door to call Jessica inside.

Not surprised in the least, until she entered the carriage. Unsure of where to sit, Cassie padded the seat next to her. As she sat down, she looked in front of her nervously.

Dissimilar to the first time Jessica had seen her before, Helga was not putting up a friendly front. She was emotionless, with faint, horrible waves of mana surrounding her. The very air around her actually seemed to have trouble staying stable, causing her image to look a bit hazy and fuzzy.

Feeling an enormous weight on her shoulders, she could tell Helga had looked at her before producing a crystal as it floated towards her.

Having little contact with her, the first time she saw her, was when they met Cassie for the first time. Since then, there have been a few times they had been in the same room. Each time, the natural mana around Helga was the strongest she had ever felt.

Evers seemed to have a natural deterrent or a completely different concept of their mana, as they never gave off this type of feeling. Jessica even knew this was her holding back, she had no idea what she had done the first time they met.

Isabel seemed to do the same. Meaning that each time she saw Isabel, she was suppressing herself. Either that, or there was something in the formation of the tribe or house that allowed her to naturally hide her mana.

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

Taking the crystal, she could understand a bit more as a Grade D. Around normal people they would feel uncomfortable around her. It was a tedious task of retaining all her mana so that it didn’t leak out.

As she focused in front of her, it was a magic contract. This was a continual of her contract that Helga had Jessica sign when she agreed to be Cassie’s student. This time it was adding on to the secrets she was being exposed to.

Glancing at Cassie, she saw a faint small on her face. Jessica didn’t hesitate to agree. As she felt a strange mana run through her body before entering the crystal.

This contract was not done under the name of the Will of the World. Instead, like the first time she signed it, this was an agreement between the three. The power enforcing this contract was Helga herself.

While the damage she would receive if she broke it was not enough to kill or maim her. She knew that the injury was the least of her worries. She would be hunted down, without a way to hide from Helga herself.

Though she had no reason not to sign, as the contract only talked about her silence. It had no other restrictions. The first time she signed the contract, Cassie officially became her teacher.

Thus, after agreeing to this contract, Jessica turned to look at Cassie. Seeing this, she smiled, “This trip is something I have been planning for a while. I know you been looking for a reason to go out. So I have been planning this outing. However, it is a bit hard to find a way for the two of us to leave Mercury City.”

Jessica didn’t misunderstand, the two mentioned were Cassie and Helga. Cassie was simply a glorified burden in the eyes of most. Most people didn’t even know her name or face. Helga, however, was very famous, and her face had long become something a lot of people had seen.

“While I can practice with you. Even portraying a number of enemies. It doesn’t make up for a real fight. So on the surface, we will be going on a sightseeing trip. Mother and I will travel separately. While Dayo will collect playmates for the kids back home.”

“What do you want me to do?” Jessica couldn’t help but ask for confirmation.

Jessica saw Cassie look at her mother as the two seemed to smile, this smile caused Jessica to feel a bit uneasy. It was only times like this that it became obvious the two were related. That smile on Cassie’s face was one that never ended well for her.

“You will be in charge of meals. Each day, mother or I will name a type of beast. You will have to go find it. You will be given three days. For each day after the first that you fail to find it, we will deduct points.”

“Points?”

“Of course, what kind of game doesn’t have a score system?” Cassie’s smile seemed to turn even more devious, “And of course there will be a penalty if you leave the forbidden zone with a negative score.”

“So what do I have to do to receive points?” Jessica had a feeling she wasn’t going to like the answer.

“That’s a good question.” Silence followed only to be broken, causing Jessica to prematurely let out a sigh of relief, “Go talk to Dayo, he is in charge of teaching you what to expect when we enter the forbidden zone.”
