Heavy Rain (157)

Heavy Rain (157)

In terms of a tent, it was only from the outside. Inside, everything was constructed of an array. Jessica had seen such things in cities. Though, the use of it as a whole was on another level here. Having learned from the old man, Jessica knew that the entire body was isolated and complex.

Using your hand, you can hold things with the fingers and feel things from those fingers and all over the body. Some more sensitive than others. Small stimulation to the fingers is easier to feel than a small amount of pressure applied to your upper arm.

Your eyes see, your feet can walk. One can use their hands and crawl. It wasn’t as if every single piece of the body was isolated. Only certain aspects like inside and certain systems were singular in nature. However, as a whole they were one complete package.

To some it up, that was exactly how she felt the Blue Wolf Tribe was. It was too early to say for sure. Only experiencing the inside of a single tent, that was the impression she felt. The entire tent was a singular entity.

Isabel was clearly not a nobody. It could be that because she was a someone, she had more than others. For instance, the outside illusion. This was not just a small illusion, there was wind and smell and possibly more. She remembered feeling the sun.

Following Saleh, ignoring the whole. Inside wasn’t what she expected. It was a bit eerie scene of a normal building. There were wooden walls and flooring. If not for the outside, everything inside was overly standard.

“I wasn’t expecting that. It is just a normal building.” Cassie seemed to be going through the same sensation Jessica was.

Saleh only smiled at this, he paused slightly when he saw Jessica’s conflicted expression, “What is it?”

Seeing both people looking at her, “It feels off. It isn’t exactly normal, I just can’t put my finger on why.”

By this time, Isabel and Everblood had moved into the living room. The trio had returned to walk up the stairs after looking around the first floor.

Hearing Jessica, Everblood seemed a bit surprised, “You lived in a normal house, there wasn’t anything special about it. I guess, it is no surprise that you would have helped with the upkeep.”

Hearing this, Isabel smiled and explained, “In a normal house, everything is built together. Inside the tribe, it isn’t possible to stay in a single location for too long. While it only happens every hundred years or so, the entire tribe will migrate.”

Pausing for a moment, “To not have to start over, the tribe has changed the way we build our structures. The outside is made using a preparatory technique. This allows the entire structure to be built of patched high grade hides and leathers. For the inside, a more simple approach is used. Floors, walls, and even ceiling are all made with conjoined components that can be taken apart.”

Saleh also spoke up, “This also means that if one part breaks, or you wish to change, even upgrading, becomes very easy and more efficient. The outside makes the inside less important in terms of demands.”

Cassie didn’t seem to understand it, to her everything seemed the same. Jessica on the other hand understood the implicate meaning of this. With the high grade material protecting the outside, the demand on materials became lessor, allowing for such flexibility.

Similar to a green house, the animal hides alone might only be able to isolate the inside a bit. Add in the array connected to the house, including what she believed to be connected to the entire city. It was likely that there were incredible advantages for the Blue Wolf Tribe as a whole.

Moving upstairs was much of the same. One strange difference was the lack of windows. That didn’t mean it was dark and gloomy. The end of the halls upstairs had open hallways that should have connected to the outer tent.

Only what was seen was the outside plains that allowed the grassy breeze to blow into the hall. Light showered in as if the hall didn’t have a wall and was just open to the outside world. This theme continued inside their rooms. Almost being conscious of the three coming.

Jessica was to the left, Saleh on the right. Centered in the middle was a room for Cassie. Inside were four wooden walls. A bed, a desk, and very little else. A little bit of decoration, though it was a bit bleak. That was until Cassie found a plank sized crystal similar to her identification.

A bit bigger with many different words leading to many options. Jessica watched Saleh smile with pride. The original wooden ceiling disappeared as Cassie played with the options.

A night sky with stars, a void of complete darkness, followed by a blissfully cloudy and sunny day. Going further in, she found many other settings. The wind picked up as the simple design seemed to come in handy as a large gust of wind blew through like a tornado.

Saleh moved over and Cassie allowed him to select a certain option. Soon the room became dark and a bit gloomy. Dark clouds could be seen in the distance, only light crawling across the sky showing that a massive storm was coming.

Cassie and Jessica turned to look at Saleh with a bit of wonder. Surely he didn’t, and yet they were soon showed he really did. It was very light at first before an extreme downpour drenched the entire room.

It was only after a few seconds that Jessica noticed an oddity. She could feel the rain pelting her skin and head, even her clothes sticking to her skin. Turning her head, she went to stop it when she noticed that her hair wasn’t sticking to her head and shifted from the momentum.

Quickly looking down at her sleeve, she pulled it and realized that because of the pressure brought about by the rain the clothes were held against her skin, the fabric in fact was dry as a bone. Quickly looking back at the sky, she realized that it was all an illusion and the room had no water in it at all.

Only her mind made her believe it was real, as she was seeing it. This was both a wonderful and a terrifying experience.
