Looking outside the window, Jessica couldn’t help but be amazed.
“It feels rather mysterious, doesn’t it?” Cassie’s voice drifted in from the side.
“A little, though this is how it always is. At a certain point, having seen it year after year. You start to get used to it. Though, it still is a bit mysterious, even seeing it now. Experiencing the shift in person really does make it strange to see.”
Outside the window was no longer white, instead there was pale green with fresh bark without any leaves. While seasons change rapidly, taking about a week.
From snow stopping, to temperatures raising. Nights chilled, making the remaining snow stick around to start melting again in the morning. After the entire week, snow was gone as temperatures even at night started to raise.
For the three, it was a happy change. Cassie had been enjoying her short periods outside when they stopped to cook. That was because while air was magically filtered. There was a repressed substance that caused the air to feel stale without feeling the same as actual stale air. As if her body knew that the magical filtering wasn’t the same as normal air flow.
Now, the window was open as magic allowed light and air in as mana kept everything else at bay. This changed the atmosphere inside the carriage to a completely different level. There was, however, one who wasn’t enjoying this change.
Coming to a stop, coming out, Cassie moved to the front of the carriage. Petting the snow wolf laying on the ground, clearly showing more signs of exhaustion. During this time, Cassie started to pour water into its bowl personally.
Jessica watching from the side could do nothing but look a bit dumbfounded at the crystal clear water. The water, she didn’t believe, was anything special, though she could be wrong. What drew her attention most was that the water was filled with more than just water.
Not sure how, Jessica felt that around ten to twenty percent of the water was mana. It wasn’t exactly the first time she saw it, there were many products that used mana stones in products. Just placing mana stones inside water would allow this, probably.
If left and filled with an unimaginable amount of mana stones. Expensive and scarce, therefore, to see it being fed to a snow wolf it was, wasteful?
Jessica was unsure, having just broken through, Jessica had to admit, the snow wolf if it continued to grow would have insane potential, in snow it was a monster that she would never want to fight.
Seeing Jessica’s expression, Cassie sighed lightly, “What can I do. Snow wolves generally migrate away and into the mountains when it's not winter. It was likely why the pack attacked us, trying to stock up on food before migrating.”
Stolen story; please report.
After eating, they had a bit more free time. During winter, Cassie’s snow wolf had an endless amount of stamina. Now, however, without the cold temperature and snow. Like a normal wolf, it moved miles with a large carriage tied to it.
At this point Saleh, had already said they were roughly in Blue Wolf Tribe territory, so they were no longer in a hurry. Any day they would run into a patrol. Without running into any trouble, their group seemed to enjoy their trip longer without cold nipping at their heels.
Next day Jessica was driving. Everything was normal until she heard a voice come from inside the carriage. Signaling to stop, the snow wolf slowed down. Once it stopped, Cassie and Saleh came out.
With a questioning look, Jessica saw Saleh pull out a necklace with a sapphire at the end. It was currently glowing and vibrating.
It was at this moment, Cassie’s snow wolf started to growl before it slowly backed up. Soon it was laying on the ground quietly, not daring to make any noise. Clearly, nervous.
Jessica felt someone behind her, turning around she found a blue furred wolf and a person with blue hair and eyes, coming out behind them.
Being in a hilly area with a short patches of trees, it was an uncomfortable feeling having so much view, while still being snuck up on. Making matters worse, they were completely surrounded.
Five wolves, and three people, had them circled. Surprisingly, while Jessica was tense, the only one sharing her stance was the snow wolf.
Cassie was looking around with interest. Saleh was smilingly lightly as he let the necklace hang loosely around his neck. Taking a step out, a wolf ran up to him before rubbing against him.
Those from the Blue Wolf Tribe seemed to come cautiously, however, once they came close they didn’t act hostile. Seeing one of the wolves go up to Saleh, combined with the feeling coming from him. It was enough to prove their identity.
“Haha, hey Eddie.” Rubbing the soft blue fur.
“You know this one?” Cassie asked with a lot of curiosity of another wolf species.
“Yes, the wolves brought out on patrol. They’re part of the next generation. They literally grow with the kids. Once they’re adults, they’re taken on patrol. This allows it to identify the younger generation that has a tendency to leave the tribe for various reasons.”
Soon, Saleh left the group as Cassie moved next to Jessica as she calmed the snow wolf. While curious, there was also caution from both sides. They seemed to be interested in the snow wolf, while also being very cautious of it and them.
Finally, proving his identity, Saleh explained their reason for coming. With that, Cassie didn’t return to the carriage. Instead, making do with the driver’s seats, she sat up front with Jessica.
Of the three, one was behind, the other two moved to the sides. This could be seen as protection, or making sure they didn’t do anything. Jessica was unsure of which it was. The wolves disappeared, besides the wolf that knew Saleh.
Saleh and the wolf were running at the front of the carriage. Saleh and the other three were running at the same speed as the carriage. This was not completely strange, as they used mana, and Cassie’s snow wolf was not able to use snow to increase its speed.
Once they removed the sled, wheels were used as replacement, and the traveling speed lowered down slightly. Trying to see how Saleh or any of the other three were running would cause a stinging of her eyes. Jessica could tell there was a faint trace of mana in the surrounding.
Not being very noticeable, it was likely part of shamanism that was not what she was used to. However, this gave her a bit of a chill. They were so far away, yet there was a type of formation so far away. Not only could it stop her from spying on their movement technique, it was clearly aiding them in moving.
