Neither of us Wants That (170)

As if time had stopped. Jessica stood looking at the scene in front of her. She wasn’t alone, as if realizing what had just happened, the Grade D was not even glancing at her. They just watched with of uneasy and a bit of shock.

From beginning to end. While, they were a bit rough. It had been completely clear, whatever Cassie was involved in had come back to bite her. This was the very situation Jessica wished to stop by asking Cassie to stop gambling over and over again.

Things that were complicated, to begin with, were very prone to mistakes and problems. Case in point, they had done so much. Lost a Grade D and a good number of Grade E and F. All so they could grab Cassie. Attempting to kidnap her for information or as a bargaining chip.

Taking her and creating distance. With multiple routes. Creating another trouble that by the time anyone has time to find the right path, it would allow those really behind the scenes to erase any real traces. Cassie, was a very strong bargaining chip.

All of that was over, not only were they in trouble, Jessica was unlikely to survive the first wave, let alone a second or third. With no end in site, it became a question if even Saleh with the backing of Everblood would be able to escape unscathed.

Helga had dotted on Cassie to a large degree. Allowing her items like an inventory ring. Likely still packed with items, however, they were in the hands of a non-graded being. In terms of overall positions. In the grand scheme, easily overlooked.

Jessica herself was just a Grade E, and she was expendable. She had no delusions. Izic was more interested in Leo than he was in her. With the old man gone, Beast in the process of becoming the dwarf Ever. She would likely die without knowing how.

“What the fuck have you done…” Jessica spat out in horror as her mind started to whirl. Her knees bucked, and she kneeled as the sheer terror of this new reality set in.

Starting off as a muffle, a bright and cheerful laughter caused Jessica’s spine to tingle. Look up in disbelief, as if a signature she saw a pair of dimples and eyes of pure entertainment staring back at her, “Haha, oh I tried so hard to keep it up, but I can’t. Hahaha, Your reaction is the best.”

Before Jessica could make sense of the scene in front of her. Cassie lifted her hands that were resting on the two individual’s chest. Two curved blades leading up to a handle with a thumb ring were shown to have been plunged into the two’s hearts.

Once removed, some blood flew out as the two body’s collapsed to the ground. Without needing to hide it anymore, Jessica was introduced to the same terror that the Grade D was currently experiencing. Mana that should be at Grade B was warping the surroundings.

Its purity and raw strength having been released from the floodgates caused everything around her to physically ripple, including the air. Jessica could finally understand what Joana meant by being stuck, without being able to advanced.

If Jessica and Saleh were flames in the wind, ready to be snuff out at any second. Joana had been a magical lamp that was radiating light that could light up a large room. Only at this moment did Jessica understand what Grade B represented, as Cassie didn’t withhold anything. Appearing like a moon lighting up an entire city.

Cassie took great delight in Jessica’s expression. Fully eating up the emotions that jaded her face from second to second. As the Grade D shifted under the pressure, Cassie turned slightly, sparing him but a glance, his entire person collapsed to the ground.

In an utterly cheerful voice, like talking to a great friend. Her trademark smile with deep dimples that showcased her innocence was displayed for full effect, “Haha, don’t move now. If you do, I will be forced to peel your skin. Layer by layer. Neither of us wants that.”

The night’s chill seemed to be attempting to bring back winter, as the two felt freezing cold. As Cassie’s face and words created a balance between beauty and nightmare.

With crescent shaped eyes of blissful joy. As if talking to herself, “While the first few times are difficult. Once you get the trick down, it gets much easier. But your screaming will give me a headache. And, do you know how much concentration it takes to only cut the outermost layer of skin?”

Putting on a bit of a bored expression, Cassie withheld some of the mana she was releasing, “Ah, it should be easier to handle now. Once the seal is broken, it can be a bit hard to control. I do so hope you can forgive me.”

Looking up, Jessica could finally breathe again. Even without malice, even the happy feelings Cassie was showcasing. Her mana was like an ocean that bore down on like a giant waterfall. With so many things she wanted to say, they were all swallowed. Cassie was above them since the beginning.

Her status special. Even Saleh was polite. She had a way that was able to make you like her. That didn’t change the disgusting feeling of being used. However, what could she possibly say. If before, Cassie had a higher status, with her position of being able to become a political guest for Mercury City.

As unavoidable evidence that she was also a Grade B being. One that was clearly at a higher level than someone like Joana, regardless of which identity it was, Cassie was someone that could deal with Jessica.

“Don’t look at me like that. I rather like you, if not for the fact that there was a traitor in the Blue Wolf Tribe. I wouldn’t have used you two like I have. You should understand by now, what it means to be an adventurer of Mercury City. Now imagine it with a mother that used to be an elder, someone still heavily involved in Mercury City.”

She stopped speaking as Saleh dashed into an opening before he came to a dead stop. His pupils shrank to needles as he didn’t dare get any closer until he processed the scene for a moment. Finally moving to stand next to Jessica, with an expression between bewildered and shock. He reeked of blood, having large sections of his clothes dyed red.
