Sitting down, Cassie motioned her to come closer. Following suit, the two sat down on a slight bank.
At some unknown time, the coachman that had not made a move this entire time, walked over. What drew Jessica’s attention was the Grade C wolf walking besides him.
Cassie looked up, “What did you think?”
Turning her head, Jessica looked at the coachman, lifting the hood, a man’s face could be seen underneath. He looked at Jessica and then turned to look at Cassie, his expression was as if looking at an idiot.
Sighing heavily, “How many times do I have to tell you, young lady, I do animals, I don’t do fighting. You don’t need to teach animals about fighting. It is in their blood. All the animals you bring me, are all monsters that are innate fighters.”
“How boring.” Pouting slightly, she could only turn away.
Jessica wasn’t sure what to make of it. She knew about beast tamers. Those that had affinity with animals. With his current look, it appeared as if what he said was the truth. Only, Jessica also knew that graded animals were not normal.
Before, he had released killing intent that gave her a sense of unease. Let alone graded, animals had to be broken in. Otherwise, wild animals would attack the hand that bit it. A graded animal was far worse.
Glancing at Jessica, he smiled, “Name’s Dayo.”
“Jessica.” Reaching out, she shook the man’s hand. With a quick glance, she was able to see as he pulled away his hands were full of calluses common from weapon training. She was just unsure of what weapon it was.
Soon after greeting her, he returned to pulling out a bunch of items. Glancing enviously at his finger, she saw he had a low quality inventory ring.
With a gloating expression, “I bought that for Dayo when he agreed to be one of my people.”
Jessica looked over with a bit of disdain. Hearing a bit of noise she turned to watch Dayo also looking at Cassie with embarrassment, “If you didn’t demand so much in terms of food. I could do with a high quality spacial bag. Don’t be so petty, nobody likes someone that shames the poor.”
What little credit Jessica had for Cassie was in the fact that she wasn’t trying to rush her. Even when it was clear that Jessica had a lot to learn. Cassie had insane talent in terms of gathering mana. Outside of flexibility, she seemed to be limited physically.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
Not being able to confirm it, Jessica could only guess from the expressions of longing when she did unconventional movements. With a superb sense of balance, it allowed her to escape a few attacks when she was put on the spot.
After an extremely hearty meal. They returned to the carriage. Along the way, only small talk continued. Even after a week, Cassie didn’t push the issue and seemed to be waiting for her to broach the topic.
Though she also knew she was being watched. They were on the road the majority of the time. When they did rest, Jessica would go around and stretch. Taking that time away from the carriage to replay some of the movements Cassie had showed.
Without fully understanding her movements, Jessica could only copy them roughly. It would be a lie if she didn’t want to just say yes. Cassie treated her well, and she didn’t care about her being younger. Her identity having been exposed, Cassie didn’t need to hide it from her.
Even if she said no, it was likely Cassie would continue to treat her the same. Jessica was just unsure if she could be so nonchalant. What caused her to hesitate was Cassie’s known identity.
It was without doubt, Jessica would profit immensely from becoming her student. Some finance support was likely to follow. But what she really needed was someone to teach her the use of daggers.
There was a significant reason she used them. It was the weapon she found the most comfortable. The fact she had gotten so far on this path using them was a clear indication of that. The method she used with unpredictable attacks using a string. It was dangerous, without comfort and ability to use the weapon it wouldn’t be possible.
Those that did use daggers were completely different from her. Very rarely did anyone use it as the main weapon. Those that did, were generally not people that fought in the open. Though it wasn’t like there was none, but there was nobody that Jessica could really learn from.
If she tried to copy, it would end disastrously. Thus, there was some surprise on Jessica’s face. The carriage had stopped. Thinking they were going to get out and eat, the two exited the carriage.
It only now made sense as to why Cassie had put on a bracelet. It was something she saw for a few days, but once they accepted the request and left the city. Jessica hadn’t seen it once.
Her mana was perfectly hidden. Combined with the suppressant she put on before the fight, she was just like before they left.
Turning in the distance was Mercury City. In the span of maybe two weeks, they had traveled the distance that took them months before. A gentle smile crept on Cassie’s face.
Laughing out loud, Dayo patted the head of the snow wolf, “My baby here is a long distance traveler. The one from before was a bit of an abnormal wolf. I have no idea where Cassie found it. If it wasn’t for me, it would have died from its own mutations.”
Letting out a sigh, “So much of its potential wasted. So all it was good at was fighting in short bursts and moderate traveling speed. It was originally talented in scouting.”
As they had lunch, Jessica had become very quiet. Neither Cassie nor Dayo bothered her. After finishing lunch. Dayo pulled up his hood before sitting on the coachman seat. Jessica was about to climb back into the carriage before Cassie stopped as she stood on the step before getting in.
Turning to her, putting her finger on Jessica’s lips. Stopping her from speaking, “Don’t answer me now. Think it over. But know that I will always be a friend if you say no. However, those inside my inner circle and outside get different treatment. When you decide, send word through John. He used to be one of my mother’s people.”
Like a gust of wind, she dissipated into the distance.
