Chapter 679:
The sudden brightness stung her eyes, and she had to blink to clear her vision. At the doorway, Jareth froze mid-step, momentarily blinded by the flood of light.
His phone rang, and he answered with visible annoyance. “How much longer until Mr. Shaw arrives?” he snapped.
The voice on the other end was tense. “Mr. Williamson, Mr. Shaw drove through the gate a minute ago. He’ll be at the facility any moment.”
Jareth paled, his frustration vanishing as he barked new orders to the staff. “Nobody mentions the power outage! All researchers, verify your data immediately! Security, I want you to find out who used the microwave to heat coffee!”
“Understood!”
Allison, pressed tightly into her corner, exhaled quietly. Thankfully, Jareth’s fear of Verruckt ran deep enough that he was on edge about even a minor power blip.
Perfect! If Verruckt caught wind of that outage, everyone, including the new cleaners like her, could be under suspicion.
Outside the conference room, researchers scrambled frantically, filling the lab with movement. For the moment, there was no escape.

Gordon’s voice crackled through her earpiece. “Allison, Kellan’s aware of the situation. He says he can cut the power again.”
“Not now.”
Allison, wedged between a large server and the wall, found a moment to catch her breath.
“Tell him the boss is almost here. Another outage would just tip him off.”
“I see.” Gordon relayed her message, then returned, his voice laden with concern. “Allison, what’s the plan?”
In that fleeting pause, she could almost sense Gordon’s frustration at being unable to take her place in the danger. She leaned into the tight space, finally grabbing a moment to catch her breath.
“Gordon, I’ll need one more favor.” She kept her voice low.
The corner she was in was rarely unoccupied, so she quickly lowered her voice and spoke. “You’re already into the lab’s surveillance, right? Once Verruckt leaves, I’ll need you to guide me back through the cameras.”
Gordon recognized her trust in him. “You got it.”
“Thanks. And don’t forget to scramble the surveillance feed.”
“Amya’s already on it,” he assured her.noveldrama
