Gina hurried over, her voice urgent as she tried to explain to Sophie, "It's on me, really. I thought you two were in the middle of a spat, so I figured Mr. Colby and you might need a chance to clear things up. I'm sorry, Mr. Colby wasn't keen on dancing with me at all!" By this point, everyone at the banquet was peering outside, eager to witness the confrontation between the wife and the supposed other woman.
But Sophie just had a slight smile on her face. "It's just a dance. Does it really mean anything?"
Her laid-back demeanor left Gina awkwardly standing there, while Colby, watching the scene, felt a strange ache in his chest.
"Still, I don't like my husband dancing with other women. It bothers me."
Colby's heart skipped a beat at her words, and he asked, "What do you want me to do?"
With all eyes on them, Sophie raised an eyebrow, "Are you asking how to keep me from being mad?"
"Yes."Content held by .
Colby answered with determination.
"Then jump into that fountain right now and don't come out until I say so."
The weather in Summerfield was freezing. Not quite snowing but cold enough to chill you to the bone. Jumping into a fountain at this time of night, soaking wet, was a sure way to catch a cold.
Gina, worried, said, "Ms. Sophie, isn't that a bit too much? If you're trying to humiliate Mr. Colby, you can't just "
Before Gina could finish, the crowd gasped in shock.
Without a second thought, Colby leaped into the fountain.
The winter chill turned water to ice quickly, and soon, Colby's face was flushed from the cold, his lips a pale shade. Water droplets clung to his hair, forming a thin frost.
"Mr. Colby!"
Gina looked visibly upset.
But Sophie wasn't satisfied: "Oh look, someone's worried about you."
She turned her gaze to Gina, "Colby
I'm giving
me and
you a choice now:
be with Ms. Gina. Vorce
t you want?"
"Ms. Sophie! It's not like that between Mr. Colby and me! How could you even suggest—"
"Colby, I want you on your knees when you answer me."
The room was stunned when Sophie said that.
Who was Colby to be treated this way?
And yet, Sophie demanded he answer her on his knees?
"Sophie! is too much! If you're humiliate Mr. Colby I
going
swho this,
you should leave!"
With that, Gina tried to rush to the fountain to pull Colby out.
But Colby, kneeling in the fountain
clared
"I don't want to, I will
never consider divorce."
The crowd drew a collective breath at the sight.
Colby actually knelt!
And Gina's expression turned sour, standing there like a sideshow for everyone to see. Everyone could see through Gina's little act.
Playing the fragile victim, acting innocent - Sophie was fed up with those moves.
Nichole had tried the innocent act before. Did Gina think she could do better?
"So, next time Ms. Gina makes a move, you know what to do?"
"I do."
"Then show me now."
