Chapter 503

It had everything a swanky private club was supposed to have: a rooftop tennis court, an infinity pool, a health spa, a salon, a library, and two fine dining restaurants. But no orchids.

Austyn brought Kira into a private room decked out in 18th-century oil paintings and wall-to wall carpets.

She spotted a woman seated next to Luca.

It was the woman she saw at Stamford General a while back.

At that time, Kira had mistakenly thought she was coming on to Austyn.

The woman stood up and stretched out a hand. "We haven't been properly introduced. Hi, I'm Isabel, Luca's wife.

Isabel O'Neill was tall and beautiful and had a confident air about her.

And she was not the woman Kira saw last night.

Kira shook Isabel's hand in a daze.

She forced out a smile. "H-hello. I'm Kira Hewitt

Isabel smiled. 'I know."

Kira glanced at Luca, then at Isabel, then back at Luca, feeling awkward.

You Have A Brain But You Do Not Think

She finally understood what Austyn was talking about in the car earlier.

e'd stumbled upon the captain's secret.

A big one.

Luca O'Neill was a married man, and he was out for a late-night stroll with another woman, who had her arm linked with his. Kira's throat went dry.

She remained rooted to the spot after shaking hands with Isabel.

What was she supposed to do?

Should she say something?

But she barely knew Isabel and had no evidence.

Austyn would say she was jumping to conclusions again.

Could there be an innocent explanation?

Could the woman be a friend of the captain's?

Isabel saw Kira standing there, looking all rigid and ill at ease. 'What's wrong? You look like you have something to say." Kira looked to Austyn for help.

He sat down on a two-seat sofa and crossed his legs, looking elegant and unconcerned.

He noticed Kira's pleading look.

He smiled, then he turned his head away.

'Bastard!' Kira said to herself.

She looked back and locked eyes with Isabel, who was staring at her, curious.

Kira's palms were sweaty.

She wasn't a blabbermouth, but she had never been good at keeping secrets.

Besides, this was something so huge, she didn't think she could keep it in for much longer. Kira shot the captain a scornful look.

Luca O'Neill was handsome and well-dressed, but underneath that suit was a two-timing cheater.

Austyn had been right to call him a hypocrite.

Dad was right; she should never judge a book by its cover.

You Have A Brain But You Do Not Think

When she first met Luca, she had instantly formed a favourable impression of the man.

He was a police captain, and Kira had always had a thing for men in uniform, like police officers and soldiers.

She viewed them as heroes in real life.

But now she knew she was wrong..

Having a noble job didn't mean the man had a noble heart.

He was a despicable adulterer!

Kira felt bad for Isabel.

'Miss Hewitt?' Isabel didn't miss the look of pity on Kira's face. Why was the girl pitying her?

Kira licked her dry lips. 'I, uh, I...'

Gosh, what was she supposed to say?

Should she tell Isabel?

But that was sure to lead to an ugly scene.

Isabel didn't look like the type of woman who would tolerate infidelity in a spouse.

Would the couple get into a fight?

Or worse, a divorce?

Kira threw another black look at Austyn.

Why must he drag her into this?

If he hadn't drawn her attention to the woman last night, she would have thought no more of

1. it.

He knew they were coming to see Isabel.

He must have done it on purpose!

By this point, Luca had also sensed something was off.

The captain scrutinised Kira's face. "What's going on? Kira?"

Kira wanted to flee from the room.

Austyn finally spoke up. 'Why are you standing there? Come over here."

Kira grabbed the lifeline he threw her.

She trotted over and plonked herself down on the sofa.

Austyn twirled a whisky glass in hand. 'Luca, stop staring at my wife. You have your own."

'I wasn't staring. I just want to know why she's acting so weird."

'She's my wife, not a suspect. Park your curiosity elsewhere."

Luca threw up both hands. 'I wasn't treating her like a suspect."

Isabel patted his arm. 'Austyn's just protecting his wife. You're scaring her."

'What's so scary about me?'

'Well, you can look pretty intimidating sometimes.'

'I do?'

'But I like it.' Isabel held his hand. 'I think you look incredibly handsome when you get all serious.'

Luca planted a loud kiss on her check. 'Say more things like that."

Isabel leaned against his chest and played with his fingers. 'You're smart. You're handsome. You have a nice body.'

She lowered her voice to a whisper. 'And you rock my world in bed."

Luca tightened his arms around her.

He'd married the best woman in the world.

Kira overheard most of their conversation and had to look away.

Too much PDA.

It was making her uncomfortable, and indignant

How could Luca betray a woman who loved him so much?

Austyn seemed to be used to it.

He ignored the couple who were getting handsy all over each other.

'I saved your bacon just now,' he said to Kira. 'Aren't you going to thank me?"

His hot breath made her ear tingle.

Kira fidgeted.

She heard a loud smacking sound.

The couple were locking lips, probably French style.

The atmosphere in the room changed.

Kira felt her cheeks getting hot.

She scooted away from Austyn.

He pulled her back. 'Well?'

"Th-thank you.' She swallowed.

The scent of his cologne enveloped her and was making her feel giddy.

She pushed at his chest. 'Can you...can you move over?'

She was practically sitting on his lap.

'You haven't answered my question.' Austyn kept up his gaze. 'How do you plan to thank me?'

'I said thank you.'

"That's not enough. His hand traced a circle on her back, sending a shiver down her spine.

Kira caught his drift.

She knew what kind of thank-you gift the man had in mind.

But this was a public place!

Granted, it was a private room, and the other couple seemed too preoccupied to notice them, but still!

Kira reached for a glass of orange juice on the low glass table.

The chilled liquid took away some of the heat in her body.

She studied her drink intently as if it contained the answers to life's greatest mysteries.

Kira's avoidant body language was plain to read.

On the sofa opposite, Luca and Isabel were engaged in a drawn-out makeout session.

Isabel's face was flushed.This belongs to - ©.

The look she gave Luca was filled with adoration and lust.

Austyn glanced at Kira, who was stealing away from him like he was the plague.

He yanked on his tie, then kicked at the coffee table in irritation. 'Did they forget to switch on the air-con?'

Couldn't Kira take a cue from Isabel?

All he wanted was just a kiss, but she wouldn't even give him that.

He kicked the coffee table again.

Kira shrank back further.
