Chapter 209

Since Bridget had to stay home after her miscarriage, she figured it was time to move on with her other plans.

While sneaking off to the restroom, Sylvia dialed Naomi's number.

"Mom, is Edwin at the office today?"

"He is. What's up?"

"I was thinking of grabbing lunch with him."

As she spoke, Sylvia glanced down at the bag by her feet, containing Rupert's jacket.

She was worried that approaching Rupert directly might give away her feelings.

Having lunch with Edwin seemed like a perfect excuse to return Rupert's jacket without raising suspicion.

Naomi pondered for a moment before replying, "Better not. Edwin's swamped today."

Sylvia was taken aback. "Busy with a big deal?"

"Not exactly," Naomi hesitated before sighing deeply. "Rupert's sick. Remember he jumped into the lake

to save you? Soaked to the skin, he still got you to the hospital. And after Warren's car accident last night, he spent the whole night covering for Warren's duties. He went to work this morning as if nothing happened. He's only human; of course, he's sick now."

"Sick?" Sylvia's heart skipped a beat.

She suddenly remembered Rupert's unusually high body temperature from the night before, thinking it was just men being naturally warmer.

"Exactly. Edwin couldn't stand by and do nothing, so he's covering for him at work. Probably won't even have time for lunch," Naomi explained.

"Got it," Sylvia replied, her feelings a mix of emotions.

Around her, the office buzz began to pick up.

"Did you see it?"

"Yeah, Ms. Simpson is so lucky. Sick and still gets jewelry as comfort. Rupert is way too romantic." "She gets colorful gemstones when she's ill, and all we get are colorful pills to choose from when we're sick."

Laughter erupted among them, though envy was evident in their eyes.

Sylvia opened Twitter and saw Bridget's post from a few minutes ago.

"Medicine tastes bitter, but the candy is sweet."noveldrama

The photo showed her wearing a necklace with snowflake-embedded colorful gemstones, resembling a string of candies.

It was a piece from the P collection that had only been released recently.

Bridget wearing it meant the rumors were true; Rupert was serious about marrying her after the project with Bailey.

Sylvia's rationality and clarity returned swiftly.

The Rupert who had saved her was just a facade; his ultimate goal was to protect Bridget.

Clenching her fists, Sylvia then opened the express delivery app on her phone.

Everything would have to wait until noon.

Noon.

Sylvia, carrying the bag, took a taxi to the Garcia Group.

Upon arrival, she was greeted by Edwin's assistant.

"Ms. Lloyd, Edwin asked me to wait for you here."

"Thanks. I hope I'm not interrupting your work. My mom mentioned Edwin is too busy to even eat, so I thought I'd bring him something.'

This wasn't Sylvia's first visit to the Garcia Group. She had delivered meals to Edwin on behalf of Naomi before, so she wasn't worried about raising suspicions.

However, she had never ventured deep into the building.

Entering the lobby, she looked up at the intricate design of the overlapping corridors. Her target today was the very top of these corridors.

Turning her gaze away, Sylvia discreetly placed a milk on the reception desk.

The receptionist smiled and mouthed a silent thank you.

Taking the private elevator, the assistant explained, "Edwin is still in Rupert's office. I'll take you to Edwin's office to wait."

Sylvia interrupted, "No need. Just

take me straight to Rupert's office. I

have to return a jacket he lent mè.

Plus it'll save Edwin the trouble of running up and down."

The assistant hesitated but, after seeing what she brought, decided to take her to the top floor.

Watching the elevator numbers climb, Sylvia's heart raced.
