Part 1 – Information Gathering
We arrived to the first town that has been attacked by the undead. The first thing I noticed was that there wasn't many people outside besides the guards that have been commissioned by the army and the paladins and priests from the churches that have volunteered to help the devastated towns. There were five towns in total and we need information on where they came from to locate the necromancer.
Town 1, Dein.....
The town was fairly small and even smaller after the first wave of undead attacked. Me and Alexandra agreed to split up to gather information since it would be easier. She went to the paladins to see what they know and I went to the guards that were stationed here. In total there were an old 10 paladins and roughly 30 guards. This was a very small number but since undead are appearing all over the place they have to split up their forces to protect enough people.
I went up to a lone guard on watchout duty and asked, “May I ask you some questions?” in the most polite voice I can manage.
The guard looked towards me and said, “As long as you help me keep an eye out for those damn undead.” I smiled at his response.
“How many times did the undead attack this place and where did they come from?”
The guard looked at me suspiciously and said, “What's that to you?”
“The head priest of the church of Thor asked me and my companion to investigate these events.”
The man scratched his chin and said, “I see” with understanding.
He continued his sentence with, “The undead attack three times. This was the first town to be attacked and each time they came from the east when the set. The first time we were....caught off guard and half the townsfolk died that night. The following day the King sent reinforcement along with some priests and paladins. Back then there were at least 50 of them in total but as the attacks continued further and further away from the town most of them left to defend other places. Then the second attack occurred. This time we were prepared for the fight but at the same time wasn't”
The man had a sad look on his face.
“What happened in the second wave?” I asked wanting to know more about the circumstances.
The man sighed and said, “The undead that attacked us that night was the townsfolk that died that previous night. They were all buried and purified by the priests....but they still came back. I heard that the other towns attacked faced something similar as well....what evil could do this?”
“That's what I'm trying to find out.”
The man looked at me and said with a small smile, “Thank you traveller.”
I sighed this time and said, “Don't thank me. Thank my companion that forced me to do this. Anyway what about the third wave? I presume there was something different as well.”
“Aye. Besides those who died in the previous wave, the ones from the first wave came back as well. I don't know what kind of dark magic could cause this but even the ancestors of this land were brought back as undead. Many of the remaining townsfolk said that they recognise some of them when they were children....other than the fact that they arrive at night away from the sun where they're strongest, I have not other information for you.”
“Thank you. I hope for the best.” I said bowing in thanks to the guard.
“I hope for the best for your investigation. I pray that the Gods guide you to this evil.”
With that I left the guard alone to continue his duty.
[That's strange. This isn't like you to have...compassion]
Shut it llyfr! The best way to gather information is to make them believe that you sympathise with them. All I did was manipulate him a bit to give me what I want to know.
[You truly deserve to have my power. Hahahahahahahhahaha. You are exactly the kind of person the Gods hate!]
Really so I'm similar to you?
[Pretty much]
That's nice to know. Anyway we should meet up with Alexandra now and then question some of the residents of this town.
[Hopefully she gains some other important information from the paladins and priests]
I went over to where Alexandra was to see that she joined the paladins and priests along side with the remaining residents of this place in prayer. Should I disturb them?
[Don't else you may ruin any chance of getting information off of them]
But Alexandra still might.
[If they learn your her companion then they might give every last detail to her]
Right so I have to wait. I walked to one of the buildings nearby and leaned by back to it waiting for the group to finish praying.
A couple of minutes later....
“Hey Eden why are you slacking off?” said Alexandra rudely to me. I frowned and replied, “I finished on my end and waited for you and the others to finish with your submission.” Alexandra smiled when most religious people would be insulted.
“So what did you find?” I asked.
“Well I believe you should've found out that purifying the dead doesn't prevent them from being revived as undead. I talked to a paladin and priest that was sent here after the first wave of undead attacked this town. According to them the bodies of those who were revived did not move.”
“What does that mean?” I asked. Don't you usually need the bodies of the dead to make undead. Isn't that a basic concept of necromancy?
“Well the undead don't come from the cemetery but always from the same place. From the east. This either means the undead are disguised in some way using illusions or there’s some artefact that makes the exact same undead while adding more in. This is frustrating you know.”
Agreed. Either way its going to be a pain to clean up.
“Did you get information off from the villagers?” I asked.
“Nope. There's no need. Most of them are to frightened to talk about it. Lets head to the next place.” replied Alexandra.
Town 2, Ledin....
“They came from the East! A whole lot of them! I never seen so many undead in my life!” said the very energetic young man. He was kinda annoying but to get information I have to endure...
“So were there some similarity between the attacks?” I asked hoping he gives me something important.
“Well besides the weird feeling that I know some of them, they gave a weird aura form their body when they go near light. Besides that the last 2 attacks were pretty much the same.”
Yes! That's what I want to know, the small details are always the best! I quickly thanked the person for their time and went to Alexandra to report what I found out.
After I said what I needed Alexandra said, “That's interesting. The possibility that the undead are at least part illusion increases. I found out that the undead were much stronger after the first wave. Its like the necromancer making them is improving or doing some experiment.”
Town 3, Mube....
I went over to a young girl not because I'm a pedo or anything...I need some information and everyone else was kinda useless in that aspect.
The girl looked at me and innocently said, “Do you need something lady?”
Ack! Lady...damn even children....
[Calm down! This was your fault in the first place you know]
Don't remind me llyfr. I have to ask this....girl a question....damn my consciousness is....
[Shit you have to stay awake! If you faint now.....damnit are you listening to me?!]
“Lady are you all right? Are you hurt?” asked the young girl. Man being pitied like that...tears came out of my eyes. Why? WHY? Why the fuck did I make my character look like a girl?!
After a few moments of being pitied I finally got my emotions back to normal. Alexandra must never find out of this.
“Eden what are you doing?”
Shit! Why now?!
“The lady over their was crying” said the young girl. In that moment I saw Alexandra's face turn into a evil smile.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!
Town 4, Yedi....
This place was the most run down place of all. It was attacked the most time after all with 5 waves of undead attacking this place. Because of this there are a large amounts of guards and paladins on standby just in case as the residents are moved to a safer place. The evacuation was half way done so we could still gather some information off the residents. Me and Alexandra split up again to do what we did in the previous 3 towns.
I went up to a guard and said, “May I ask you a question?”
The guard turned and looked at me and said, “Sure.” He was blunt and he could have some crucial information I need.
“Have you noticed any kind of similarity or change in the undead in the attacks?”
“Hmm.....I believe many now know that the undead seem to be the same no matter what attack they come from and that they consist of our dead ancestors. One thing I noticed was that the undead seemed to have become stronger after the fourth wave. They looked the same to their strength and speed were significantly higher than before. The fifth wave was the same but to a lesser extent. Its as if the dark power that controls them was getting stronger.”
Town 5, Medina.....with a time skip!
“Well I think that's all the information we can gather on these attacks.” I said.
“I think so too. We should have enough information to track this necromancer down!” said Alexandra in enthusiasm. We were together with a couple of paladins on standby. They were nice enough to let us stay with them for the night since Alexandra convinced them...
The sun was setting and I had a very bad feeling about this again. Whenever the sun sets I feel an abnormal energy coming from somewhere. I questioned llyfr about this and he said it was most likely due to the power of the necromancer increasing.
“Hey llyfr were there any necromancers in that world of yours?” I asked letting Alexandra into the conversation as well. It seems Alexandra was interested as well.
[Hmm...there were necromancers. Several times they almost took over the world but were stopped by heroes]
“I see what was the worse undead attack?” I asked again. This could be interesting for me.
[Lets see...a necromancer did not lead that particular battle. A doom knight. An undead knight of great power invaded a certain town that was the base of the heroes. There were 19 million waves of undead in that war]
19 million?! Holy Shit! That's overkill!
“When you say 19 million waves you mean 19 million undead right?” said Alexandra hoping that llyfr made some sort of mistake.
[No it was definitely 19 million waves in total. Each wave was about 5 undead so there was about 83 million undead in total some were pretty big as well. You have to consider that the place that was attacked was the main hub for heroes around the world. There were at least several tens of thousands of heroes facing the undead]
“Will you tell us how the war went?” I asked. Man facing that many undead would be hell!
[Well everyone thought it would be the usual 4 million wave war. That’s the standard]
So facing 20 million enemies was standard? I'll hate to live in that world.
[After defeating the 4 million waves one way or another the doom knight taunted the heroes and sent out the remainder of his army. This battle continued over a month but the heroes numerous in numbers and strengths eventually won. The doom knight himself came out to fight]
“So I guessing the heroes defeated him and won?” asked Alexandra. These kinds of stories usually end with the heroes defeating the enemy general and saving the world.
[Nope. Everyone lost. The doom knight spared the heroes to give them the despair of having no power when their towns, loved ones and the world was destroyed in front of them. The doom knights also collected the 8 elemental orbs before the battle and was preparing to absorb their power to become the ultimate being]
“Wait elemental orbs?” said Alexandra in confusion.
“Think of it was a orb that lets you dominate an element when you use it. I heard its very powerful” I said the Alexandra explaining how powerful and dangerous these orbs were.
[Anyway when the doom knight was about to absorb the power of the ultimate orb the 8 elemental orbs combined, his useless subordinate betrayed him and took the power for himself. He turned into a dragon and the heroes and the doom knight were forced to team up to take down this new dragon of darkness and eventually succeeded]
“So was that how the war ended?” I asked. This was getting kinda long.
[Not at all. The dragon of darkness was absorbed by the mastermind itself. The mastermind a powerful spirit of darkness needed a vessel to wield its mighty power in the world. It collected countless darkness spirits from the world and became even more powerful. The heroes fought it and the darkness spirits that attacked it but they were losing. The dragon of darkness even swallowed the sun to rid of all hope]
“Wait swallowed the sun? Just how powerful was this being?” I exclaimed in shock.
[Most likely the most powerful being that existed in the world at that time. Warlic exhausted himself during this battle by maintaining the barrier that protected the town from the darkness with the help of countless other mages and engineers and the heroes set off quickly to save as many as possible from the darkness. Eventually a solution was found with the help of Crysero to defeat the dragon of darkness. You must understand how powerful creatures of darkness are without light to support you. Be careful when facing the necromancer]
“Wait a minute THAT Crysero came up with a solution to this?!” I exclaimed again. Man things gets more shocking every second.
[Don't ask me what happened. I couldn't see anything after the darkness spread all over the world and I heard second handedly that Crysero and the most powerful Hero and his dragon used some power to defeat the Dragon of Darkness and the mastermind]
I see....so we may never know what will happen unless I ask Warlic and Crysero....
Hmm? What was that feeling? It felt like the weird energy was becoming bigger. Shit was there going to be an attack tonight?! Wait it is night!
“ALEXANDRA UNDEAD!”
Rubble Rubble Rubble Rubble Rubble Rubble Rubble Rubble
I ran to the edge of the town to see countless undead coming out of the ground to attack. Their eyes glowed a bright yellow despite being creatures of the night.
Part 2 – Night of the Undead
With my cry the guards and paladin immediately rushed out to meet me to see the undead about to attack.
“Guards block them as much as possible, Paladins take them out while moving in a single group!” shouted one of the guards of the town.
The guards and paladins immediately followed his orders and they were standing in a line formation to block the undead. The formation had the guards in 3 lines and the paladins moving about sweeping undead as they came.
“Lets go! Holy Aura. Battle Cry!” shouted Alexandra. She was the one leading the paladins into battle thanks to her skills. Well I might as well get started. What are undead weak against besides holy?
[They are neutral to everything but light and dark spells. I suggest you use fire to light them up for others to attack or ice to trap them]
Ice it is then! First seal release! The markings on my body changed to what they originally were and I had a slight power boost. I imagined spikes of ice appearing from the ground and piercing the undead in the middle of their formation.
“Ice spike times 10!”
Ten ice spikes appeared like a flower blooming and shattered the undead. I think I got around 30 in that attack but their were still a lot more. On our side we have 100 guards and 20 paladins while on the enemy side we have at least 500 undead attacking at once. Plus I think I see skeletons as well. Man we are so at a disadvantage here.
[But with us here this will still be pretty easy]
That's true but I don't want to draw that much attention. Hmm...I want to try something. I ran pass the guards and into the undead. I easily dodged their slow attacks and got to the middle of them.
“Mana Shield times 6”
When I stopped to put all my mana shields on me the undead were pounding on my mana shields.
Mana Shield took 386 damage
Mana Shield took 411 damage
Mana Shield took 349 damage
Mana Shield took 300 damage
I quickly imagined the place being covered with ice.
“Ice Field”
The ground suddenly became a blue white colour which enhanced ice magic. I then imagined a giant tower coming from underneath me carrying me up high in the air.
“Ice Tower”
Unlike when I used it against enemies, I made it ascend slower than usual so I won't die by my own spell. Now here comes the fun part. I imagined a wave of ice coming from the ice tower freezing all of the undead nearby.
“Ice Wave!”
A wave of ice appeared from the ice tower that had undead climbing up it. The undead were frozen when the ice wave passed through them and they were encased with ice. The wave travelled over a 20 metre radius of the ice tower just a bit away from where the guards and paladins were.
You have levelled up
You have levelled up
You have levelled up
You have levelled up
You have levelled up
Holy shit I gained so many levels at once. I think undead were in the level 70s usually but these ones seem to be in the level 100s or higher judging by how difficult the fight is for the guards whom are all over level 200. Well that's my contribution to the battle. I sat on my ice tower waiting for everyone else to finish.
Part 3 – As a group
I heard Eden scream that the undead were coming. Many people were confused since they see no undead in the area but I know that Eden has that sensing ability and was complaining that the area feels weird.
“Prepare for battle” I said to the paladins.
When I said that the paladins with me immediately started to get ready. Seeing this the guards in the town also followed suit. Before long we ran to where Eden was to see that there was so many undead attacking. I saw some fear in even the eyes of the paladins that have faced these guys time and time again. It looks like this was more than they thought they would handle.
Then one of the older guards shouted out commands for everyone to follow. It was simple. The guards block the undead and we sweep them running across the line they made so they won't get overwhelmed. The plan depended on the fact that we can quickly take care of these guys.
“Lets go! Holy Aura. Battle Cry!” I shouted to the men.
Holy Aura was a skill exclusive to the paladins. By covering yourself with a holy aura your offence and defence increase. It also gave a passive effect that undead will be affected by the aura. Battle Cry was a skill you can find on some warriors that command the battlefield. Its effects vary on the person but my one increases morale, strength and agility at the same time which was handy. But my skill progressive with it is low since I need to command people which I don't like to do.
After we were bluffed by the priests we immediately headed out taking down undead. The undead were slow but powerful. As such we should never be caught surrounded. I lead the charge and vertically sliced the undead in front of me.
Then in my next movement I shouted, “Sword Wave” and swung vertically up creating a wave the hit the next undead in front of me causing damage to the surrounding undead.
The other paladins followed suit and attacked at the same time.
“Holy Blade”
“Holy Strike”
“Holy Blow”
The paladins were spamming Holy attacks like there's no tomorrow. We continued to sweep the area a couple of time until I noticed the place was significant colder.
RUMBLE RUMBLE
I think I saw Eden on that tower of ice he made. That was definitely one of the spells he use. Then I think I saw some sort of ice wave coming our way. Eden are you trying to kill everyone?! But the ice wave didn't kill us and just stopped just before consuming us as well.
You have levelled up
You have levelled up
You have levelled up
Wait I just levelled up a couple of times. Was this because of Eden's spell? He killed so many to the point that the leftover experience levelled me up? Well its time to clean these guys up!
“Crusader Sprint!”
My body moved faster than it normally would I easily dodged the now very slow attacks attacks from the undead and sliced them up. It took us another 10 minutes to clear out the remaining undead in the area.
Part 4 – Facing Darkness
Well they finally finished off those undead I left. Its about time.
[If you helped it would've ended faster]
True but I still feel that weird energy even now. I don't think this is over yet. I dissembled the ice tower and fell to the ground on my feet. The moment I hit the ground the energy I felt surged in an incredible rate. Shit! Something is coming!
A dark fog appeared out of nowhere. I have to get back to the town.
“AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”
Eh? Screaming? What?
[Eden don't go back now! Get to Alexandra quickly!]
I quickly ran to Alexandra whom also noticed the sound. She was about to go with the other paladins to help the residents but I stopped her.
“What are you doing?!” retorted Alexandra when I stopped her from going to the townsfolk.
“Llyfr says its too dangerous. The weird energy I've been feeling spiked all of a sudden” I said trying to calm her down.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”
I heard more screams. This time I think its the paladins and guards instead of the townsfolk. I really have a bad feeling. The dark fog slowly gathered into the shape of a human, at least I think it was a human.
[I would say run but you need to kill this thing to finish your quest]
“A being of unknown origins with great power and the servant of the foolish Gods. You will make great tools for my lord Bar Khan!” said the being with confidence.
The voice of this thing was not male or female but a combination of both for some reason. Either way I’m creped out by this thing.
“I don't think running is an option right now” I said nervously.
Due to this sensory power I have now I know how ridiculous this thing is. It somehow reminds me of llyfr and myself in terms of power. Eventually the thing in front of us created some sort of robe that covered its body.
Well at least it looks like a necromancer....the thing raise its hand and said in a very cold voice, “Raise Undead”
I think around a hundred undead were immediately created. All of them were the guards and residents that were recently killed in the town. Damn I can barely see anything. This fog is making my eyesight at night worse.
“Light balls”
A couple balls of light floated around illuminating the area a bit. The moment I used that spell the undead started to moved towards us.
“Holy Aura. Battle Cry!” shouted Alexandra. It looks like she's really to fight. I hope the necromancer doesn't do anything. I imagined the undead being sucked into a point using wind.
“Wind Vortex”
Some of the undead were forced into a ball. I then imagined the undead being crushed by wind.
“Wind Crush”
[REPLACE sound of undead being crushed]
The undead I trapped were being crushed and died.
Elemental Mastery increased by 1
I really wanted to to check on how much experience I just got but the undead were numerous enough for me to decide not to despite the undead being really slow. On the other hand I'm kinda glad that these undead are pretty slow.
There were still a lot of undead left and Alexandra was killing a bunch of them while I was counting them which I loss count of already.....lets start again there's one there, also there and there and there and ther-oh wait she just killed another 10 so minus ten....
“EDEN HURRY UP AND KILL THESE GUYS!!!!!” shouted Alexandra.
What? Can't a guy count undead? Now I think of it the number of undead are increasing....damn this necromancer is creating more undead!
I imagined a pillar of fire going into this increasing group of undead.
Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on the original website.
“Fire Pillar”
A giant pillar of fire was created in front of me. The numerous undead that were walking towards me were burnt black and died as they stood mostly turning into ashes. Well there's too many now...time to spam skills.
“Lightning Bolt Lightning Bolt Lightning Bolt Lightning Bolt Lightning Bolt Lightning Bolt Lightning Bolt Lightning Bolt Lightning Bolt Lightning Bolt Lightning Bolt Lightning Bolt Lightning Bolt”
I think I took down quite a bit of undead with that but there's still more forming. Why wasn't the necromancer thing attacking us directly? I had 9700ish mana left and was steadily draining some mana from the undead whom have either no or very little mana.
I think I was draining mana from whatever was living in this place instead of the undead since I wasn't draining that much mana and I have to keep away from Alexandra so I don't drain her mana as well. Speaking of Alexandra she seems to be overwhelmed right now. I should help her.
[About time you noticed]
Hey you didn't say anything about it! Anyway I have to get rid of those undead without killing Alexandra. Any ideas?
[Well you could just use smaller spells and lower their numbers]
No can do. I'm tired of this!
[Then charge straight in, grab the girl and run away while blowing them up]
Great idea.
“Mana Shield times 6”
I covered myself in the shield and charged straight through these undead things.
Mana Shield took 321 damage
Mana Shield took 474 damage
Mana Shield took 386 damage
Mana Shield took 312 damage
Mana Shield Broke
Shit! These guys hit a lot. I imagined the undead on the side being pierced by some Earth Spikes.
“Earth Spike times 4”
2 Earth Spikes on each side appeared and killed the undead on each side of me. Well at least some of them. I think I saw a couple move....do I have to burn them? I rather not fight burning undead you know......maybe I should just freeze them.
“It looks like you can endure this much. Raise Undead!”
The damn necromancer created more undead. Seriously, there's another hundred of them now! Unless I use a wide area attack we're doomed but Alexandra would be caught up as well.
“Hey Alexandra! Get here now! I'm using that!!!” I shouted to her.
She was probably chopping some more undead so she couldn't talk much but eventually I got an answer, “Can't you see I'm busy here?!”
“No I can't! There's too many to see you!” I shouted back.
Damn they're close now. I imagined fireballs hitting these guys. I don't care anymore.
“Fireball”
A giant fireball was created and flew to the undead directly in front of me which was a couple of metres away.
BOOM
It exploded and the fire hit a couple of other undead. Maybe its better if I can see Alexandra. I started to focus my attacks to Alexandra's direction. I then imagined the place around me being covered in fire.
“Fire Field”
The ground turned a bright red burnt the feet of the undead. I imagined a pillar of fire heading to that damned Necromancer.
“Fire Pillar”
A large pillar of fire was created and moved to the necromancer. Seeing this the necromancer shouted to his undead, “Move! Block the attack!”
Soon enough around 30 undead stood in line to take the blow of my attack. My fire pillar disappeared before it could even touch the necromancer.
Damn the situation is getting worse. I and Alexandra were surrounded by undead in the hundreds and were separated though that was a good thing thankfully so I could use more power via undoing the first seal. The necromancer was 30 metres away from me but I can't get to it due to the large amounts of undead in the way. Well at least they were not skeletons or death knights. These guys were ghouls or more commonly called zombies.
“It seems I've underestimated you two. One holds mastery of several elements I see and the other the natural enemy of our kind has tremendous power. I see mere undead can't deal with you two. Recall undead!”
Suddenly the bodies of all the undead....well broke down and turned into the dark fog which returned to the body of the necromancer. I saw that Alexandra had a shocked look on her face. It seems like she was getting overwhelmed if this continued a bit longer but the necromancer stopped. Its probably because of me since I can handle these guys for a pretty long time and in a couple of hours the sun will rise.
“So are you letting us go?” I said no even intending to run away now. Not now that he picked a fight with me. I was determined to kill this guy.
“Of course not. I'm making new toys for you to play with unusual being....” said the necromancer on a cold voice.
I can tell that he's doing something since the amount of energy he collected was becoming something else....
Alexandra did not dare attack the necromancer right now. I wouldn't either. The moment we attack, the necromancer will most likely use that energy to kill us in an instant. That was how much power he carries right now. Though I find it strange that he doesn't attack was directly.
[Those who specialise in the necromancy path are often weak physically and even magically in other departments. They train themselves to create countless undead not to fight]
I see but it can still attack us if it wants right?
[Yeah. The unknown is the most dangerous thing. Its better to let it create what it wants then kill both of them later]
The dark fog that was surrounding the battlefield slowly came into one spot. A small dark ball that was even darker than the night was created and the necromancer absorbed it. So it decided to fight us directly eh.
[No that's not it. Its...]
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
The dark fog erupted from the body of the necromancer. No...you can't call that thing a necromancer anymore. It donned armor and had a sword and shield. It was a knight. A death knight was created using the body of the necromancer was a base.
“What is that....” muttered Alexandra.
She could tell as well that thing was dangerous. Death knights were considered one of the strongest types of undead. With the power of darkness they wield, they are also skilled in close combat. The named ones were all powerful and in the level 200s but this feeling of terror even suppresses the Cyclops a creature in the level 300s.
“Was this thing a Doom Knight?” I said out loud.
“Correct” said the thing in front of us.
It looked like a certain berserker in a series that was actually very good to watch with its dark aura that covered its body and most likely makes it harder to track it.
“This is really bad. We need several platoons to even deal with this” said Alexandra in fear. It seems this was first time she faced an opponent of overwhelming power.
[Hmm...this feeling. Its certainly similar to the Doom knights I know in my world. Though a bit weaker in some aspects...be cautious they specialise in close combat more than anything. Try to stay your distance]
“Ho....so that was the strange feeling I was getting before. To think such a being existed in this world.”
What?! Impossible it can hear llyfr's voice?
[So you have a powerful sensing ability now....]
“Yes...I can feel the life in this area quite clearly now.....and I can tell that you are even more powerful than my lord in pure power. You would be a very special present for him”
His master was Bar Khan wasn't he. The father of all undead, the one that invaded the lands with countless undead and was finally stopped for decades of war. And you have more power than him?
[Well the Gods had to step in to stop me. Its not that surprising]
“Speaking of Gods, I feel their power through that one. I should take care of her first before they interfere.”
The now doom knight disappeared and reappeared in front of Alexandra about to strike. Shit!
“Mana Shield”
I quickly casted a mana shield over Alexandra and she moved her sword to block the attack but...
BANG
Mana Shield took 152431 damage
Mana Shield Broke
Holy Shit! If it weren't for my mana shield absorbing most of the damage Alexandra would've died just like that. Alexandra was pushed back a couple of metres from a 'light' swing.
[Damnit keep attacking. Don't let it attack!]
Shouted llyfr to both of us. Was this thing that dangerous.
“Lightning Bolt”
ZAP
I fired a lightning bolt to the doom knight but it causally took a step back to dodge it.
“Earth Spike times 5”
BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
The Earth suddenly pierced upwards where the doom knight was. But like before it dodged it easily. Then what about this!
“Ice Field. Ice Prison!”
The ground turned from the bright red to the blue white colour of ice. From the ground ice moved in to try to encased the doom knight. The ice quickly moved and covered most of its body in a moment's glance but...
“Do you think something of this level will work?”
The doom knight simply moved and the ice prison broke.
“SWORD WAVE”
BANG
I looked behind me and saw that Alexandra was back in action at last.
“Holy Aura. Battle Cry. Crusader Sprint!” shouted Alexandra before charging in to attack. I have to support her. I imagined the ground behind the doom knight becoming a tall thick wall.
“Earth Wall!”
RUMBLE
The Earth wall was quickly formed and the doom knight was trapped.
“SWORD WAVE SWORD WAVE SWORD WAVE”
Alexandra swung her sword three times using a sword wave each time which looked like one attack to me.
BANG BANG BANG
From the blast dust was blown into the air. I have to attack now while it can't see me. I imagined ice coming from the ground and piercing the crap out of the doom knight.
“Ice Spike times 8”
The ice spikes came one after the other like a chain reaction and hit the doom knight. Did it work? Alexandra retreated a couple of metres just in case. As the dust cleared what I saw was horrifying. The doom knight was standing casually in the middle of all those attacks. A bit of smoke of coming form its shield but that's all. We didn't even scratch its armor.
“This is getting annoying. I change my mind. I'll take you out first unusual one”
Crap.

Its sword went through my body and broke through my mana shield like it was paper and went through my body.
Cough
Blood came out of my mouth. Blood also came from the wound on my chest. Damnit. I don't want to do this but release the second seal.
With the last bit of strength I shouted to Alexandra, “Get as far away as possible now!”
Alexandra started running obeying my command and the doom knight watched her run. It turned its head to me again and said, “Do you think she can escape? Or do you think you can stop me alone.”
I gave a smile to the doom knight and said, “Yeah I can.”
[5 element seal release!!!]
Power flowed through my body. My wounds sealed itself and I felt I could match this thing. My mana increased to 15000 now.
[Your body can handle more of my power now. Go wild or you'll die by this thing here]
Right. I imagined the doom knight being pushed back by a large amount of wind.
“Wind Gust”
Foooooooooooooooosssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhh
The doom knight was resisting the wind but it was eventually pushed back by 10s of metres.
“An increase in power. How interesting” the doom knight said.
It as interested in my power surge but I'm not going to let it kill me. Even if my power increased, it doesn't change the fact that my attacks can't hit it. I have to use faster spells or slowly trap it. In that case....
“Flood”
Water suddenly surged from the ground. The place had knee high water now.
I quickly jumped up and said, “Freeze.”
From the spot I was at, the water started to freeze completely and turn into something we can walk on. I looked at the doom knight that was examining my behaviour.
“What is the meaning of this? You can't catch me with just that.”
I smiled. It perfectly knew that such spells were useless to it but I can so more than that. I pointed my finger at it and said, “Lightning Bolt!”
ZAP
This time my attack hit it. But it blocked my attack with its shield. The doom knight looked at its feet and said, “I see...the ice will make it more difficult for me to move. But still...”
The doom knight disappeared from my sight and reappeared to attack.
“Mana Shield”
Its attack hit my mana shield.
Mana Shield took 145235 damage
Hmm? The mana should've been drained from my mana right? How come I didn't die?
[Rather than the power source coming from your active mana source, its coming from your reserve in this state. I still recommend not getting hit]
I see. But that thing is preparing an attack. Darkness covered its blade and swung at me.
I jumped out of the way to still get hit by the darkness surrounding the sword. Was this a area of effect attack?
“Good! Such Vitality! You will make a wonderful servant!”
The doom knight swung his sword countless times to me creating a onslaught of darkness attacks. This is bad I don't think I handle more of this even with the second seal undone!
[No choice...summon Torrwch]
You mean the spear?
[No the sword. Hurry up before it attacks again]
I focused my mind and imagined a golden sword by the name of Torrwch.
“Creation Mgic: Torrwch”
A golden blade was created. It looks familiar for some reason.
[Its the blade that I created to face that rabbit thing]
Oh that's why. I was half dead when that happened right?
[Hurry up and attack. Magic won't work then you'll have to use physical attacks]
Damn, this isn't my forte. I grabbed the sword and ran to the doom knight. We both swung at each other, the doom knight slowed his attack down though and they clashed.
ZINNNNNN
The blades repelled and slid off each other. Good it didn't break.
[Eden your body can't handle much more of this. Kill it now!]
Easier said then done. I continued to attack the doom knight with my pitiful swordplay.
[What are you doing?! Use telekinesis]
Oh yeah, I had that. I jumped back and retreated while using telekinesis to hover the sword to attack the doom knight.
“This technique...how interesting!”
Hey llyfr, my mana absorption is working on that guy right?
[Yeah but it has an insane amount of mana so the absorption doesn't matter]
Damn! I moved the sword to pierce the doom knight's armor. If I can't kill it in one shot then I'll strip off its armor piece by piece. The sword flew and hit the left leg of the doom knight, its armor cracked and broken the doom kngiht screamed in pain.
“Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh”
The doom knight swung its sword a me and produced a wave similar to Alexandra's own sword wave. Shit I have to move now! I imagined the ice shifting to move my body on it.
“Ice Wave.”
The ice underneath me moved me and I barely dodged the attack that was moving faster than most can see it. I was running out of time. I imagined the ice underneath the doom knight pushing it up high in the air.
“Ice Tower!”
A tower that was pretty large rammed the doom knight from underneath and pushed it up in the air.
NOW
I moved the sword to pierce the Doom knight.
STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB
After how many attacks from the sword, the doom knight armor finally broke into pieces. The body of the doom knight fell with its armor onto the ground. Black smoke was seeping out of it. I think it was dying.
“So that amount of power wasn't enough to stop you eh. I understand the fact that you are a monster even more so than me....”
With those words left to me the doom knight disappeared into the darkness. Hmm? I didn't gain any experience why?
[It looks like the core of that thing still lives. Anyway I'm sealing your power now. 5 element Seal!]
My body became heavier all of a sudden. I fell to my knees and was panting out air.
[Also I have something to say to you later. Expect a lecture later on]
Wait what are you-
Ding
You have completed the quest “Necromancer that Plagues the Kingdom”
The Kingdom now rid of a great evil thanks you for your effects. Collect your reward from thr head priest of Thor.

You have levelled up
You have levelled up
You have gained 100 Reputation with the Kingdom of Dawlin
You have gained 5 Contribution points to the Church of Thor. The church is now neutral to you.
You have gained 300 Fame
Ah the quest finished. Well I'm level 106 now thanks to this quest though how much experience would I get from killing an actual doom knight? It was in the level 400s right, so about 10-20 levels right now?
[I don't know. Anyway you should find Alexandra, she would've been notified about the quest now]
Right I have to find her.......wait she's there!
“Eden that was Amazing!” shouted Alexandra.
I was angry right now. I started complaining.
“Where the HELL were you?! I was forced to face that THING ALONE!!! When I told you to run I meant get REINFORCMENTS you FOOL!!!”
Instead of getting frightened like a normal person would she smiled and said, “So you have that much power~”
Gulp
I have a feeling that this person wants to exploit me now. I have to fix this.....
“Alexandra, if you tell anyone what happened here, I'll torture you to death. I do have the power to do that you know” I said while glaring at her.
She was sweating with fear right now and said, “Okay...” then had the look of disappointment on her face. She kicked her dirt on the ground in her disappointment.
“Lets get back to the head priest already...” I said while sighing.
Hmm? I saw something on the ground where the doom knight was. It was something covered in black? Well I might as well take it.
Some time later......
“I congratulate you two for completing this quest!” exclaimed the head priest. He was shocked very shocked that we could finish it. I don't blame him, the necromancer turned out to be a worse creature than I thought.
“Yes yes now let me explain everything that happened” I said to the head priest trying to calm him down.
“We investigated the five towns that were attacked and noticed some similarities between the attacks. The undead were created not of trhe bodies of the actual dead they represent but of a dark fog. One man in town of Ledin confirmed this beforehand. The reason why undead could take on the form of the people who died was because they weren't made from the bodies f those people which was why purifying the dead bodies didn't work. In the town of Medina, the undead attacked for the last time as we and the people there managed to repel the attack.”
I took a breath and was about to continue but the head priest asked a question, “So was that it?”
“No it wasn't. The mastermind behind the attacks appeared but before that a dark fog appeared and there were screams in the town. The other guards and paladins went and there were more screams. I thankfully stopped Alexandra before that since I had a feeling something would've killed her.”
The head priest was shocked, “Did she not complain?”
Alexandra glared at the head priest from that comment.
“Yeah but the necromancer appeared. It said that we would've been a fine addition to his master's minions.”
“And the master was though I think I already know.”
“Bar Khan.”
We were all silent for a few moments but I had to continue the report.
“Well then it summoned a lot of undead which we were able to survive but then it recalled them all and turned into a...Doom knight...”
The head priest was extra shocked now. People know that a doom knight is the second most powerful form an undead knight could take. Its power was unrivalled and combat against it was foolish.
“How did you kill it?”
“I don't want to say but I I didn't. It escaped when its body broke. It dropped this”
I took out the black thing and showed it to the head priest. He walked a couple of steps away and managed to say, “That thing is cursed!”
Really......man my luck is horrible....wait why aren't I being affected by this cursed item?
[No idea. Maybe the curse isn't active yet. There are many cases where people are affected by ancient curses from items that seems harmless when they are collected. I advice throwing it away]
Well I can't right now.....
The head priest coughed and regained his diginity.
“Anyway I'll give you the 500 gold as promised and as for the extra reward...Alexandra come here. Its time for you to learn how to purify things. Take the cursed item from Eden and come with me. Eden I have a special reward for you as well, take this ring”
I took the ring and examined it.
Ring of Magic Control
Unknown
Well it looks like I have to get someone to identify it....Alexandra was taken by the head priest to learn a new skill and I was stuck here waiting....

Author's Notes:
- Well this was a pretty long chapter at 8000 words.
- This could've been longer....just saying but it would be a pain to write that much more.
- Note that the creature is not truly a Doom Knight nor it is a Necromancer and that was the only reason why Eden could barely defeat it. It was a creature that could somewhat transform into other creatures but the strength of a Doom Knight was too much for it to replicate it perfectly and thus it turned into an incomplete one that was kinda weak. However it is still really strong.
- New Character will be introduced next chapter!
