The Wandering Revenant

Drake

I gulped. This thing had 8 levels on all of us. It was too strong and we weren't ready. But then again, we didn’t really have a choice. If we didn’t kill it now it might destroy our entire base. I gritted my teeth and looked over at Layton. “Use your wailing arrow to distract it so you can get off more shots on it.” I told her.

She nodded and pulled out an arrow focusing on the arrow itself. It began to fill with power and vibrated in her hands. She aimed and fired it. It let out a piercing shriek that echoed throughout the base. The monster turned around and grabbed the arrow snapping it, but not quickly enough. Layton got off 4 shots before it turned around and came for us.

Brock lifted up a huge rock the size of my head and chucked it straight at the monster. It looked up and narrowed its eyes before ducking to dodge out of the way. The rock missed by inches as it hit the ground throwing up dirt.

The revenant screeched and started to run at us, sending up dirt as it sprinted straight for us. It was almost as fast as Minya but not quite. It made me wonder what its stats were but another scan told me nothing new. I unsheathed my swords and readied myself.

I turned to everyone. “Okay here's the plan, Kent, Brock and I will go to its front and try to juggle it and keep it contained within our circle doing as much damage as we can without getting very hurt. Minya will be employing hit and run tactics to hit vital areas and contribute to the damage. Layton will be our aerial support and Emily will heal us. Sound good?”

They all nodded and got into position. When the revenant got close enough, me, Kent, Brock and Minya all leapt off of the wall and rolled to stay okay. Minya sprained her ankle but Emily shot a healing pulse at her and fixed it.

When the wandering revenant saw us it increased its speed and had a horrifying grin on its face. Like something you would find in a horror movie. I stopped and stared at it as it ran full tilt towards us. I crossed my swords and called out a challenge to the creature. It turned and looked straight at me. Then it sprinted at me and punched out. I barely blocked the strike but I was sent reeling.

That hit had been no joke! It wasn’t as strong as Brock but it was far quicker which made it more terrifying. Brock got behind it and slammed his ax into its back tearing out a huge chunk of its back. It screamed in pain and whirled, punching out 3 times in quick succession. Each blow sent Brock stumbling back and by the end he went flying and tripped on a tree stump falling backwards.

I used bloody strength and strength filled my body and even spilled out, as I entered my superpowered state. I jumped forward, slashing out and tearing a deep slash down the revenants side, using vampiric touch to steal some more blood. The skill didn’t activate. The creature didn’t have blood for me to steal.

I gritted my teeth. These types of enemies were the worst matchup for me. I couldn’t take any blood so I couldn’t really do anything if I ran out of blood. I just had to go for the most damage I guess. I stopped using bloody strength and stepped back, only for Kent to appear in my place. He punched out with a fist covered in lightning that slammed the revenant and sent him flying.

Minya sprinted over to him and released a flurry of blows stabbing him 4 or 5 times with each dagger in quick succession. Then she thunder stepped away and sent the revenant stumbling from the thunder wave that crashed into him. Had she just weaponized thunderstep?

As the revenant stumbled an arrow suddenly slammed into his face pushing him back. I jumped forward and used a blood slash sending a wave of blood into the revenant cutting off his hand and slashing his abdomen.

The revenant howled and jumped backwards slamming his fists into the ground creating a mini earthquake. As the ground shook we tried to stay on our feet but Brock was the only one who succeeded. The revenant turned to face him before a pulse of black energy erupted out of its back sending it soaring at Brock.

Brock tried to put his ax between them but the revenant arrived and quickly kicked Brock square in the face.

Brock flew backward hitting the ground with a *huff* and sliding a couple of feet. He tried to stand up but the revenant was suddenly on him and kicked him away again. I gritted my teeth and sprinted over to try to avert his attention. But Minya beat me to it, slamming her daggers into the revenant skull.

The revenant froze and screamed out in pain before whirling around, smacking Minya and sending her careening across the grass hitting her head on a stump. I cried out but remained attacking the undead creature. I slashed out with my sword cutting off more of its stomach.

The revenant screeched and jumped over 20 ft in the air and landed far away. Suddenly, dark energy started to whip around it faster and faster, blocking the revenant from view. When the mist-like energy dissipated the revenant was fully healed and far bigger.

Suddenly Kent came up behind the revenant and clocked it in the back of its head sending it flying forward with a boom of thunder. I jumped over and stabbed my sword deep into where its heart would be. I hit something hard and heard a *ting* as my sword stopped. I leapt back and raised my sword in front of me.

I realized what I had hit. “Guys I think it has a core where its heart should be! If we break it we might be able to kill it!” Kent nodded at me and crept behind the monster only to be kicked in the face as the revenant appeared in front of him in the blink of an eye. Had it just teleported?

Brock rose with a groan and growled at the revenant. He suddenly started to rapidly grow along with his clothes and ax until he was over 15 ft tall over 5 ft taller. He lunged and slammed the foul creature into the ground with a *crunch*. It called out in pain and stood up on wobbly legs. Brock reared his ax back and cut deep into the revenant's side breaking its core and killing it.

I selected no. I could divvy out my stat points later. I turned to the rest of my team. “We did it!” I shouted happily. Emily jumped over the side of the wall and rushed to Minya.

She felt her pulse and cast a few healing spells before turning to us. “She will be okay but it might be a while before she wakes up. She hit that stump good.” She said, wincing.
