I soared through the trees, everything becoming mere blurs to my vision as I tore through the forest, rapidly gaining speed overtime thanks to my new amazing shoes.
I pulled up the information on my shoes just to double check.
Sneakers of the Lightning God: Sneakers, Growth Item(F-Grade): These sneakers are made from the footsteps of the Lightning god, taken into a master cobblers workshop and made into an item of much praise. It is made amazingly but is held back by its grade limit. This item will grow alongside you but will require the proper resources to advance a grade.
Effect One: These Sneakers, when both worn, will boost your speed by 10%
Effect Two: When running with both of the sneakers on, you will gain momentum over time until you reach your maximum speed, which is 400% of your natural speed, including the speed benefits of the sneakers.
Effect Three: You can run on walls while you are wearing at least one of the sneakers. You can walk on ceilings if both are on. Your center of gravity will shift depending on what you are walking on.
I felt way more than 10% faster but I had realized that that was only the initial boost, it ramped up INSANELY fast overtime
As I hopped through the trees I came across an interesting sight. Brock was rapidly shrinking and growing between his two forms. Going too fast to slow down I just shot a wave to him that I would later realize he wouldn’t even see, as I was going so fast I was getting close to breaking the sound barrier.
As I ran I had to constantly jump over all sorts of obstacles and tree stumps that were in my way. The most annoying thing was whenever I ran into monsters, they would always make me slow down and kill them, it didn’t take long, it was just annoying.
I finally came to a stop on a hill that overlooked all of the trees, and I saw something VERY peculiar. In the distance, smoke was rising from the trees. I was alarmed. That seemed to be around the place where we had met Grog. Has something happened? I shook it off. Nah, it must be some new effect Kent had gotten or something. I hadn’t stuck around to see what everyone else had gotten, except for when I had popped in and seen Brocks.
I looked around and breathed in the air. I finally just took in my surroundings. There was an ocean of emerald trees all around me and far in the distance I could see the sparkling blue ocean. I listened to the chirping of birds… wait? Why were no birds chirping? Confused, I opened my eyes and looked around trying to see any birds. I knew that there were birds, I had seen them multiple times, I just couldn’t see any in any direction.
I narrowed my eyes and looked around again, this time looking for anything amiss, something wasn’t right. First the fire, now this? I slowly turned around and glanced in every direction trying to find the source of my discomfort.
As I tried to find anything else amiss, I heard a rustling in the bushes, I whipped my head around just in time to see Drake come sprinting out, breathing hard. Seeing me, he ran up to me and grabbed my hand. “We have to run!” He yelled at me, trying to pull me along.
I dug my feet into the ground, stubbornly refusing to move. “What is going on?” I asked him, turning to look at where he had burst through the trees.
I felt a sudden dread form in my stomach, as though an apex predator was approaching us and I turned grabbing Drake's arm and all but yanking him alongside me, forcing him to pinwheel his legs to keep up. As I all but dragged him alongside me and shot a hesitant glance backward, looking directly into the eyes of a demon.
I knew those eyes. Those were the eyes that had mocked me right before I was sent halfway across the island and stranded. Those were the eyes of the Night-Mare.

My breath caught and I faced forward, pumping my legs as fast as I could to get away from that thing.
Drake tried to keep up with me but eventually gave up and jumped on my back, not even slowing me with my superhuman strength.
All I could think about were the gleaming eyes of the Night-Mare. I involuntarily shivered as I thought of the grin that was practically pasted to the Night-Mare’s face. I couldn’t believe we hadn’t seen through Grog sooner, I recognised that grin so easily now.
But in the end, we had been too happy to see other people besides us on this island and had overlooked the simple facts.
It had been far too long since our run in with the Night-Mare, and we had grown complacent, being the ‘strongest’ people on the island, that was laughable now. The Night-Mare was playing with us. It could probably kill us whenever it felt like it, it just enjoyed the thrill of the hunt or something like that.
I heard a crash behind me and saw Brock go flying in front of me, crashing into a tree and sliding to the ground with a groan. Without even slowing down I bent down and grabbed him, yanking him up and hurling his ‘normal size’ body in front of me.
He yelled but still hit the ground running, arms pinwheeling. “What in the world is going on?!?” He yelled at us.
I was too focused on getting away so Drake was the one to respond. “We are running from the true nightmare on this island.” He said, somewhat cryptically.
Brock just glared and tried to catch up to us. It wasn’t working. I was going so much faster than him. He had to jump with all of his strength just to stay close to us, and still he was lagging behind. Grumbling, I was just about to try and carry Brock too so that he could stay close to us when Kent burst out of the trees to our left, assessing the situation and picking up Brock before he started to sprint right beside us.
He was actually keeping pace with us because of one simple fact. I was carrying a person and my strength was lacking, whereas he was carrying someone but had FAR greater strength than me, he was also glowing with the fury of the storm, a perk of his new item.
Cloak of the Storm Dragon Monarch: Cloak, Growth Item(F-Grade): This cloak was made from the hairs of the Storm Dragon Monarchs human form. It has the insight of the storms and the power of the dragons, but only holds a trace of its former power after being thrown into the void for a brief period of time, ripping all of its former prowess out of it. It longs to reach its former power and even one day surpass it, but is held back by its grade limit. This item will grow alongside you but will require the proper resources to advance a grade.
Effect One: While wearing this cloak, you will always be able to predict the weather for the next 3 days, and can even slightly influence it.
Effect Two: While wearing this cloak, you can call upon the power of the storm once a day, enhancing you FAR beyond your normal capabilities and making all damage you deal inflict lightning damage alongside of it.
Effect Three: When the hood of the cloak is up, all spells or abilities that can scan you fail if they are equal to or less than your grade, otherwise it is just more difficult. You will feel a tingling sensation whenever someone tries to scan you. You will be able to tell the direction the scan came from.
I picked up the pace as much as I could but my legs were starting to flag and burn out. It was only a matter of time before I was too exhausted to sprint. I was going my max speed non-stop and I had been running for over 10 minutes. Sure adrenaline was helping, but there was only so much it could do.
Kent noticed and his eyes narrowed, looking around frantically for anything we could use.
I started searching, but I didn’t really know what he was looking for. I was interrupted by Kent. “Follow me. And please trust me.” He said in a pleading tone as he rocketed off into the trees, I took a deep breath, or at least as deep of a breath as I could while running full speed, and followed after him.
He didn’t slow down, running straight in the direction of the ocean. I wanted to stop and shout at him for leading us to a dead end, but I remembered his words, please trust me. So I decided to do just that.
He was running directly at the cliff edge and I was getting more and more nervous. What was he doing?
After a few tense seconds of running, Kent reached the edge.
Without missing a beat, he leaped off, taking Brock with him.
I froze for a split second, I couldn’t fly or glide with Drake on my back. I paused before hearing the cackle of the Night-Mare behind me. Needing no further encouragement, I leaped off the edge, hoping Kent knew what he was doing.
