Dao Grinding pt. 2

Kent

A small break to find it? Sounded nice. I stood up and glanced over at Emily. She was breathing deeply and trying to get closer to the dao. I hopped over the wall casually and ran over to the nearest tree. Inspecting it I tried to get a feel of the “state” of the tree.

It was a young aspen tree with only high branches. The tree was roughly 20 feet tall and had a gash in its side where a beast of some sort, maybe a bear, had marked its territory.

I put my fist up against the tree and pulled back, before suddenly whipping my hand forward slamming it into the tree. There was a snap as my fist tore through the tree, splitting it in half.

The tree groaned and toppled over. My fist had made a crater in the tree that was almost a foot in diameter, felling the tree.

I watched the tree and noticed how it broke. Then I realized what I had missed. This act couldn’t be called breaking the tree. It was more like… snapping? No. That wasn’t it.

While I was thinking about this I brought up my stat sheet.

Scanning it quickly I noticed my class. Destroyer. It opened my eyes.

I wasn’t breaking or snapping the tree, I was destroying it. It was a little over the top but it was what was happening. I was showing it my dominance and destroying all of its will to stay alive.

The tree couldn’t withstand the sheer force of my fist. It was simply too powerful. I was ripping through and destroying its ties to its roots.

I sat down in front of the tree and examined it. What was destruction?

Was it the art of breaking something so thoroughly that it couldn’t be recognised? No. That was close but not right.

When you destroyed something you made it unfixable but there was still a chance that it could be recognised to anyone who paid attention to it.

True destruction was not an act but a way of life. Tearing down the challenges that dared to get in your way and showing them that you were the one in charge now.

Destruction was not an end but the way to grow. Destruction was eternal.

Destruction was unstoppable and unchanging like a tsunami. Crashing down on those who tried but eventually failed to stop it.

Dao of Destruction comprehended!

I grinned. I hadn’t even been meditating but I had still gotten a dao seed. Now I only need 2 more.

I walked over to the meditation area and saw that Drake and Brock had joined in on the party. They were both sitting on pads meditating on the dao.

I sat down on one of the pads and closed my eyes. What other daos should I pursue?

I decided to just go with the one that was the most deeply ingrained in myself.

Who was I? I was Kent, the man who had killed 2 dozen men in one night. I was Kent, the man who had beaten a man to death trying to return to base. I was Kent, the traumatized soldier who flinched whenever he saw human blood.

No. I was those things in my past life, maybe but who was I now? I was no longer weak. I could take down monsters with my fists and make those with me prosper and those against me suffer.

I was a man who was fighting against the world itself and winning. I was the man who was learning about my friends and the new world that we lived in. I was a man who enjoyed fighting and loved to grow in strength and skill.

I was the man who would one day look back and see how far I had come and rejoice. For I would grow forever. I was as immovable as a mountain and as strong as one too.

I was Kent Collins!

Error! Pure dao has been discovered! This dao is the most perfect match for you yet it does not have a name. You may name this dao seed.

* Dao of Kent Collins

* Dao of Self

* Dao of the Mountain man - Wouldn’t advise.

* Dao of Unending Growth

I blinked. I got to choose? What was so special about this dao?

After looking them all over I only saw one option.

“Dao of Kent Collins.” It was only right. This was who I was on the most foundational level. It was my path to the heavens proclaiming that I would grow forever.

Accepted. Processing… Please wait

I stared at the words. I had just gained 70 stat points from one dao. Just what was this dao!?!

I opened my eyes and saw that Emily, Drake and Brock were staring at me. “What?” I asked them innocently.

It was dark out and I could barely see them.

“First of all, the monsters are coming soon so we need to be prepared. Second, you were meditating for 5 hours and during the end we started to feel like power was coming off of you in huge crushing waves. Still do. What did you do?” Drake asked me eyes wide.

I smiled. “I understood myself.” I told them cryptically.

“What?” Emily exclaimed. “You think that explains anything? That has got to be the worst answer ever.” she scowled at me.

I shrugged. “You guys are the one who asked.” I reminded her.

She just glared at me.

I turned around and looked at Drake. “Hey, how was easy mode?” I asked him, I was really curious.

He smiled. “I talked to the leader of the city and then left to go outside. There was a man causing trouble so I calmed him down a bit.” At this he grinned wildly. “After that I went and took down 2 of their bosses. They were ridiculously easy but looked nothing like ours. There was a giant rat and a crystalline stag. The Crystalline stag gave me a little fight but the rat just died in one blow. Really disappointing.” he slouched down depressed.

He suddenly perked up. “Oh! But I talked to the Grand AI and it seems we both have the first 2 bosses the same. They have the captain and the wandering revenant as well, they are just lower leveled.” He told us.

I nodded. “Good to know. Thanks for telling us.”

Then I looked at them all. “We are the best nightmare team.” I said jokingly.

Then I froze.

Emily looked at me strangely. “Umm… Kent, are you okay?” She asked.

I breathed out heavily. “Guys, I got it!” I said in a hushed voice.

Brock stared at me. “Got what?” He asked, looking at me with a really confused expression.

“Our team name.” I told them.
