Layton
We were all in a semicircular clearing, talking and chatting about life, it was fun. We were trying to find each other after the big fight. Not that much had really happened. We had destroyed that beetle, it couldn’t even really be called a fight, more like a smackdown. Either way, we were all trying to sit back and relax a little bit.
We were also waiting for the rewards that the system had promised to give us for reaching the halfway mark. I wasn’t really expecting much because eventually everyone would pass through this stage so the rewards couldn’t be that great. Drake, Kent and Plikt were meditating to complete the quest, even though we weren’t sure if Plikt could even get dao, he was trying so that he could ‘better protect queen’ were his exact words.
I loved the little guy. He tried so hard to prove himself and take care of me and it was adorable. He was now a lot taller than me at 6 '5 and had grown more muscular, he now actually looked the part of a bodyguard. The only problem was that he had outgrown his shields; they now looked more like wide bracers than actual shields.
I was chatting with Brock and Minya about the best ways to train, because I was now one of the weakest people here, bar Emily maybe. Emily could definitely take me in a fight though. Even though her magic wasn’t really suited for combat she could easily block every single one of my arrows using those walls of hers and she could probably just create another spell to take me down, she was terrifyingly good at magic.
All of us had fallen into a group and had our own unique spots. Minya and Kent were the two prime damage dealers, with Kent able to be ranged if he needed, Drake was our versatile guard and fighter, able to switch easily. Emily was our healer and terrain management, I was our range and also our taunter, Plikt defended me and Emily and Brock was our ace, he just needed to get his ax back. He was really ineffective without it.
As me and Brock were debating about which of the trio would get the first dao seed of the day a notification came.

I was very confused, but I only had a second to think before a giant blue wolf suddenly barked into existence, wagging its tail. It was taller than Brock and about the size of a van. It turned around and tackled Kent, pinning him to the ground.
He let out a muffled scream as one ton of wolf crushed him. “Get off you beast you're crushing me!” His muffled voice barely reached me and the wolf just ignored him, squishing him even more under his titanic weight.
Brock finally came to his rescue after Kent tried and failed to escape a couple more times, the wolf was just too strong for him. Kent let out an overdramatic breath after he was released and then crawled over to Emily. “I need healing, I think he broke one of my ribs,” He gasped out, “I am in a lot of pain.” He told her, still breathing heavily.
Emily just rolled her eyes at him and then healed him with a blast of warm green light. He sighed and relaxed. “Thanks you are the best.” he said standing up and stretching.
I looked at Emily and noticed that she was facing away from him and her face was flushed. What? Then I looked at Kent. He was stretching and carefree. Oh. She liked him didn’t she? I mean I understood. He was very strong and also very intelligent, there was no reason not to like him. Just… Hadn’t she met him a little over a week ago? Wasn’t this happening too fast?
Oh well. I wouldn’t judge others for their romantic life. Mine was pretty messed up. I had had over 3 ex’s. After that they all started to blur together. I didn’t really think of men that way anymore because I knew it would most likely end in pain and suffering. I knew there were good men out there. I just had never found the right one for me.
I pulled myself together and picked up the token and potions that had appeared in front of me. There were actually two tokens one that was the body upgrade and the other was called a Equipment token (Uncommon). I assumed that I would use it to get the promised uncommon equipment mentioned previously.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
I picked it up and tried to use it. Nothing happened. I flicked it, threw it and even bit it but nothing happened. How did I use this thing?
Umm… What the heck are you guys doing!?! You are supposed to say “activate” and the token will come into effect. Seriously you guys are ridiculous.
I blinked. I sometimes forget that the system was controlled by a somewhat sentient being.
Somewhat! I am smarter than you you little-
Suddenly the Grand AI stopped talking and there was a long beeping noise. Was it being censored? That was mildly funny.
Anyway, back to the token I grabbed it and held it in front of me repeating what the Grand AI said.
In a burst of light a new screen appeared in front of me, and boy was it interesting.
Kinetic Leather Armor: Absorbs Kinetic energy to an extent able to release all of the pent up energy to strengthen attacks, whether they are from a weapon or your body. Very durable.
Enchanted Titanium Sword: This sword has been enchanted to be nigh unbreakable, and on top of that it is made of titanium making it even more durable. No magical qualities but can repair itself over time.
Enchanted Dwarven Bow: This bow has been enchanted by the dwarfs who are masters of woodcraft and enchantments. This bow creates its own arrows out of ambient mana in the surrounding environment. It has a massive drawback weight and can shoot up to 500 yards.
Masterwork Elven Hammer: This hammer was made by the elves who are largely considered to be the greatest metalworkers in the universe, and they prove it. This hammer is made so that even the weakest swing will destroy everything in its path by absorbing momentum, so the faster you swing the more energy it produces causing more damage. Masterwork items have been known to single handedly end emperors in a blow.
The list went on and on. These were only uncommon?!? What the heck did higher tiers look like? I needed to know!
I browsed the list and found some that I thought were going to be useful to me.
Enchanted Dwarven Bow: This bow has been enchanted by the dwarfs who are masters of woodcraft and enchantments. This bow creates its own arrows out of ambient mana in the surrounding environment. It has a massive drawback weight and can shoot up to 500 yards.
Masterwork Elven Bow: This bow was made by the elves who are largely considered to be the greatest metalworkers in the universe, and they prove it. This bow shoots normal arrows but the farther the arrows go the faster they go. It shoots in a straight line and picks up speed at a rapid pace punching through even the strongest armor if the distance is great enough.
Mysterious Endless Quiver: This quiver has been enchanted to hold over 1 thousand arrows in its pouch. But, unlike its common counterpart the Endless quiver, it also adds a dash of mystery to the arrows. Every arrow that spends at least a day in the quiver is randomly enchanted, always an enchantment that will harm whoever is shot with it and the enchantment will always be beneficial to the caster. No negative enchantments.
Elder Beast Leather Armor: This armor was made from the skin of an Elder beast, a creature known universally to have amazing physical abilities. This armor is made to resist all physical attacks and some magical ones. This armor also has an active component, being able to summon the spirit of the Elder Beast and multiples all physical stats by 5 for 10 seconds. Can be activated once a week.
As I was debating between these four amazing options Kent yelled something out that made me pause. “Don’t choose a weapon! The system promised us scaling weapons if we beat the tutorial! Choose something else so we don’t have to ditch one of the options!”
That was a very smart idea. We wouldn’t want to get a good weapon only to get a better one after completing the tutorial.
Now I was down to two options.
I looked back and forth between the two options hesitating. They were both AMAZING options, but I could only choose one.
In the end, I chose the quiver. It wouldn’t be as useful now, but just the thought of having a thousand enchanted arrows may have changed my thoughts on the matter just a little bit.
I turned to the Body Upgrade token. Now, should we get started?
Kent's choice
Ring of the Dragon: This ring was made for those who have a dragon inside of them, begging to be released. The Dragon's energy flows through this ring and you can draw from it to enhance your own inner dragon, giving you a slew of multiple benefits depending on the user's dragon. The stronger the users dragon the stronger the effects of this ring. This ring will siphon off power from the user's dragon, strengthening the ring overtime making it more effective and durable.
Brock's choice:
Masterwork Elven Breastplate: This breastplate was made by the elves who are largely considered to be the greatest metalworkers in the universe, and they prove it. This plate harnesses all damage dished out to it and gives it to the user letting them rebound the enemies strikes back at them, using their own attacks against them.
Minya's Choice:
Crackling Boots: These Boots harness the power of lightning to make you go incredible speeds, you can channel lightning through these boots to fill up its reserves letting it all out in a burst or over a time. The reserves can hold up to 1,000,000,000 joules of energy. Regenerates itself if damaged.
Layton's choice
Mysterious Endless Quiver: This quiver has been enchanted to hold over 1 thousand arrows in its pouch. But, unlike its common counterpart the Endless quiver, it also adds a dash of mystery to the arrows. Every arrow that spends at least a day in the quiver is randomly enchanted, always an enchantment that will harm whoever is shot with it and the enchantment will always be beneficial to the caster. No negative enchantments.
Emily's choice
Healing Bracers: These bracers are filled to the brim with healing energy and make any spells cast that have healing energy in them FAR more powerful. These bracers have an active effect too. Once a month you can save someone from the brink of death. No matter how close even with the most fatal wounds. Will not reverse curses, debuffs or semi-permanent effects.
Drake's choice
Amulet of Blood: This amulet is a device that can be turned on and off. While on, it will absorb all blood that is exposed to the air, friend or foe, so be wary. It will suck as much blood as it can before it gets full (10 pints of blood) at which point it can be used by it's owner. While off, all spells related to blood magic are strengthened and have the chance to inflict minor debuffs (3% chance).
Storm shares a stat sheet with Kent. (can't use any Dragon magic but gains the benefits of Inner Dragon)
Storm's choice
Claw of Thunder: This is a jar filled with a metallic substance that can be coated on claws or nails. Strengthens them and makes them a natural conductor of lightning. Lightning can be channeled through the claws/ nails to make them more effective. Has an active effect. Let's the user create an explosion of thunder, originating from their claws that pushes away and harms enemies and heals allies. 1 day cool down.
