Questing

Brock

We were all jogging through the forest to go to the coast that the orc dude had sent us to. I still didn’t completely understand what was going on but the others seemed to know what was happening so I was just following them. For all I knew though, I was walking to my death.

I trusted my friends but then again I had only really known them for something like 2 weeks, maybe less. That didn’t mean we weren’t close, I just wasn’t sure how I thought of them just yet. I definitely trusted them with my life, as they had saved me on multiple occasions, but could I really trust such short people? I mean, whoever says that 6 feet is tall has never seen me. I am almost 4 times that size as of right now and who knows how big I will get.

As we continued to jog I started to get hit in the face by the tree branches as they got closer together. They didn’t hurt or anything, they just were annoying, like Minya. Seriously, how could someone so short be so fast? It just didn’t make sense.

We finally arrived at a little stream that led out to the ocean and found a small cliff face going down to the beach a couple hundred feet later. As we looked out Layton and Minya spotted the little buggers along the coast.

There were about 2 dozen of them and they were all the size of a toddler. They had red skin and tiny wings that didn’t look like they would be able to hold their weight. But we were in a magical world and magic didn’t make sense to me so I decided to be ready in case they did fly.

They were all surrounding a large campfire and were playing with what looked to be a large burlap sack. They were pulling out all kinds of things, pots, knives, magical cannons and tons of other very random things, I was surprised that it could all fit before I remembered. Magic.

The imps were all either lazing about or playing with the sack, and I even saw one play with some sort of fire ball in his hands. That didn’t look good for us, magic did not work in my favor.

Drake turned to us and whispered quietly. “We need our ranged fighters to make a starting volley with us melee following close behind the blasts. Emily, Plikt and Layton stay here and help from above, Kent, shoot a blast then jump down with us, Minya try to get to them before they can react and Brock, you are the human bomb.” He told me.

I smiled. “I like this plan.” I said before Minya slapped my mouth closed and I realized I had been talking in my normal voice. Oops. Luckily none of the imps seemed to have noticed so I was fine.

Drake started a countdown and then at 2 pointed at Kent and Layton. They stood up and released their attacks, Layton throwing a rock with enough power to capsize a tank and Kent shooting his lightning blast. Immediately after Drake waved us all off and we jumped, leaving Plikt, Emily and Layton behind.

I followed close behind and prepared myself to hit the ground as hard as possible. When I was a few feet from the ground, I yelled out and activated my spell, rapidly growing and gaining 10 more feet to my mass. The sand under my feet exploded, sending my teammates and the imps flying, luckily my teammates reacted fast and got up before the imps could.

I let out a roar and slammed both my fists on the tiny imp bodies, smashing three with a single blow. They were so tiny compared to me and I started to stop violently around the campfire, slaying imps with every step.

The imps finally recovered and let out a long, high pitched screech. I just snorted and punted one of the jerks, hitting it so hard that it exploded into a fine bloody mist. Oops, I think I hit it too hard.

Suddenly a portal appeared above my head and imps started to stream out, landing directly on my head. They seemed surprised and tried to jump off but I started to swat them out of the air, killing as many as I could. The imps let out cries of pain and horror as I killed them effortlessly. These things were supposed to be our level, come on.

The imps started to group back together and started to fight back, creating fireballs the size of beach balls that crashed into my side. I roared and my side exploded in pain as the fireballs peppered me all over. I started to tread towards them in long strides getting up close to them as they screamed out and sent even larger fireballs my way.

The fireballs got increasingly painful but I just blocked it out. I would kill these annoying brats if it was the last thing I did. I punted a few more and sent bloody vapor flying into the lines of imps, actually making them choke on the blood of their friends. It was very dark. Almost dying to your friend's blood getting down the wrong pipe? What a horrible way to die.

I ended their suffering by crouching down and then leaping into the air, crashing down on them and crushing almost all of them under my enormous feet. I started to stomp around and crushed imp after imp. After a while I realized my friends were just watching from the sidelines as I single handedly crushed all of the tiny jerks.

I punted the last one and turned back to my team, shrinking back to my normal height. Which was still considerably taller than any of them.

As I wiped my feet in the sand my team came up and looked me up and down.

Drake was the first to talk. “You okay buddy? You looked like you were very upset at something and your face was turning red with anger.” He told me.

I looked at him weird. “The stupid brats were annoying me yeah, but I wasn’t mad, they were just pelting me with fireballs, that may be what you saw.” I told him, shrugging it off.

Kent just snorted. “As if, you were jumping and stomping on those tiny demons. I almost felt sorry for them. Then I remembered what they were doing and I felt like they might deserve it. Might.” He told me with a slight smirk.

Emily, Layton and Plikt joined us, with Layton jogging over and grabbing the sack before unceremoniously chucking everything back inside. Probably what I would have done too.

Plikt nodded at me. “You true warrior. Stomping the opposition under your iron foot, that is the way to do it.” he told me seriously before leaning in like he was sharing the most important piece of knowledge ever. “People are squishy, use that against them.” He told me solemnly.

I just laughed. “Plikt, you are a great guy to have around.” I told him, still chuckling.

He looked at me strangely before shrugging to himself. “Humans.” was all he said. We picked up the sack and started to head back to the base. This time taking our sweet time and killing any imps that had gotten away during the battle. If it even was a battle, it had been more like a slaughter. I had mercilessly killed all of them and I felt… nothing.

I should feel some grief or guilt right? I just felt a cold satisfaction in what I had done to those imps. This couldn’t be a normal thing right?

As we arrived in the clearing Grog visibly brightened when he saw us and the bag together, briefly glancing at my blood covered feet before looking back at the bag. “Thank you for retrieving my bag! I will greatly reward you now.” He told us.

Oh good, we could get paid now.
