Chapter 51: The Trial of the Gods - New Gear
Emily
I stared at the golden coin resting in my hand. This changed everything.
All of us had gotten an item that couldn’t be equipped but could be held or carried in a pocket.
I had a coin.
Not just any coin though, I had the coin of Apollo, who I had ended up fighting.
Coin of Apollo: Coin Growth Item(F-Grade): This coin is made from high grade gold which uses metal gifted from a god of healing, Apollo. It is currently very poorly made but still has great effects for an F-Grade Item. This item will grow alongside you but will require the proper resources to advance a grade.
Effect One: This Coin boosts all healing abilities of you and your allies by 5%.
Effect Two: This Coin can be consumed to create a barrier of healing magic that cannot be broken by anything of its grade or lower. All allies behind it will get a HOT spell on them. The Coin will return to you within 48 hours, but while the coin is gone, all passive bonuses are still in effect.
Effect Three: This Coin is made with the intention of healing the sick. You can rid someone of any F-Grade disease or curse that you understand how to cure but don’t have the resources. Theory over practical application is key to using this ability.
It was amazing. I was a bit sad over the lesser percentage increase before I realized it applied to all healing abilities. Which meant both skill AND spells for everyone in my team, which could be huge long term, but not very useful right now.
The disease slash curse thing was good. It would make it a lot easier to heal infected wounds.
I suddenly had a thought. With this Coin, could I now potentially cure cancerous diseases? If so that was HUGE, not only would it be a huge jump forward for humans everywhere, but we were only in the tutorial. After exiting and seeing what lay before us, could we potentially get rid of all diseases for good? It made the medical part of me want to sit down and think about it.
I shook myself, I wanted to see what everyone else got.
I turned to Drake. “Hey what did you get?” I asked, leaning forward and seeing what he was holding, a blood red gem. It looked similar to a ruby.
He sent the screen to me with a flick of his hand.
Gem of Apollo: Gem, Growth Item(F-Grade): This Gem is made from crystallized bloodlust made directly from the god of bloodlust, Ares. It is currently very poorly made but still has great effects for an F-Grade Item. This item will grow alongside you but will require the proper resources to advance a grade.
Effect One: This Gem enhances all abilities related to boosting effects, effects both you and your allies by 5%.
Effect Two: This Gem can be consumed to force you into a rage state, while enraged, all of your stats and abilities are enhanced by 75% but you are far more inclined to resolve things with bloodshed. All allies within 20 feet get a 25% boost. The Gem will return to you within 96 hours, but while the gem is gone, all passive bonuses are still in effect.
Effect Three: This Gem is made with the intention of killing all of your foes. While you wield this Gem, all of your enemies will feel the effect of your bloodlust, this effect scales with your bloodlust. Bloodlust is enhanced by 5% as well.
I whistled softly. That had the potential to be dangerously good. His second effect seemed a lot better than mine, but I couldn’t tell for sure.
Drake looked at me after my eyes refocused. “Well? What do you think? I personally think it could either be amazing or decent, depending on how the effects really work.” He mused to himself.
I just punched his arm lightly. “You and I both know that is amazing, stop trying to be humble, you are failing horrendously.” I scoffed at him, rolling my eyes.
He just smirked. “Well? What is yours?” He asked me curiously.
I pulled it up and then sent it to him with a swipe.
His eyes scanned over the information I had given briefly before he let out a shocked yell.
“Why did you get such an amazing second ability?!? It’s really not fair, you get so many broken abilities related to healing. I am not going to complain though since they benefit me.” He said hurriedly, smiling sheepishly.
I just looked at him then back at my coin. “What do you mean? The second ability seemed kinda bad to me.” I said, confused. How could a shield that only stayed in one place be helpful in battle? I mean sure it could block people but they could just go around.
He just rolled his eyes at me before he saw that I was serious. “Wait what?!? You don’t know what a HOT spell is?” He asked me, seeming very confused at my lack of knowledge.
I just shrugged and shook my head at him. “I thought it meant hot as in warm, which I thought was confusing.” I told him honestly.
He just smiled at me. “You don’t play video games much do you?” I shook my head again. “That explains it. HOT stands for Heal Over Time. Which means you create a barrier that can block any attack of your level, and it will heal us automatically while it stays there. Basically as long as we stay behind it, we are basically unkillable unless we are one shot.” He explained excitedly.
“Oh…” was all I said as the information finally hit me. This could be invaluable in any battle, it was like a healing beacon that also was nigh unbreakable. That felt a little TO powerful now that I knew what it really meant.
As I ran all of the scenarios that this new ability could drastically effect, Drake called Kent over. “Hey Kent, what is your item?” He asked him.
This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.
With another flick, the information was sent to me and him.
Lightning Rod of Zeus: Rod, Growth Item(F-Grade): This Rod is made from silver adamantine made directly by the god of thunder, Zeus. It is currently very poorly made but still has great effects for an F-Grade Item. This item will grow alongside you but will require the proper resources to advance a grade.
Effect One: This Rod enhances all abilities related to AOE effects, affecting both you and your allies by 5%.
Effect Two: This Rod can be consumed to create a lightning storm that will strike anyone in range, but the lightning changes from ally to foe. If an ally is hit their health is restored by 25% and their next ability has a 50% more effectiveness. If an enemy is hit, they get a debuff (random) and take damage linear to INT. The Rod comes back after 72 hours.
Effect Three: This Rod is made with the intention of harnessing lightning. While you wield this Rod, lightning skills and spells are 15% more effective and you are resistant to lightning. Loud sounds (like thunder) don’t have any effect on you and your ears will remain unharmed.
I nodded. That was pretty nice. I liked that someone else now had a way (however small) to heal everyone else.
I was starting to see a pattern between the effects. The first one was a bonus percent to a certain ability, the second one was an effect only enabled by consuming the item. The third one seemed to be just a random effect special to the item.
We all gathered together and Layton showed her item.
Charm of Aphrodite: Charm, Growth Item(F-Grade): This Charm is made from Mythic Oak wood and silver, made directly from the god of beauty, Aphrodite. It is currently very poorly made but still has great effects for an F-Grade Item. This item will grow alongside you but will require the proper resources to advance a grade.
Effect One: This Charm enhances all abilities related to illusions, or things that affect how you look by 10% only affects allies if you choose it to, bringing the bonus down to 5%.
Effect Two: This Charm can be consumed to activate a powerful glamour. This glamour makes all beings attracted to you and all they want to do for the next 60 seconds is prove their love for you. This ability is less effective on beings more powerful and more effective on weaker beings. The charm reappears in 24 hours.
Effect Three: This Charm is made with the intention of being the most beautiful. While you wield this Charm, all of your enemies will feel as though you are a “lady” and are not a threat to them, making your first attack on them a perfect critical, dealing 200% more damage. Your natural beauty is enhanced by one tier.
This felt VERY like Layton. An ability that made her look more gorgeous? Please, she had that in spades, it made me kind of jealous.
After Layton showed us all her charm, Brock was the next up.
Marbles of Poseidon: Marbles, Growth Item(F-Grade): These Marbles are made from black adamantine made directly by the god of earthquakes, Posiden. They are currently very poorly made but still have great effects for an F-Grade Item. There are currently 10 of them inside of this pouch. This item will grow alongside you but will require the proper resources to advance a grade.
Effect One: These Marbles enhance all abilities related to strength effects, including physical buff spells, affecting both you and your allies by 5%.
Effect Two: You can throw a marble to create a mini earthquake that lasts for 30 seconds each, the effect of the earthquake is linear to your strength. You can throw multiple marbles in the same area to create a more powerful earthquake. The last marble in your bag turns blue and if you use it before more marbles appear, it summons a tsunami in a wave away from you. The marbles reappear in the pouch after 48 hours from the time they were thrown.
Effect Three: These Marbles are made with the intention of harnessing natural disasters. While you wield these Marbles, AOE abilities are 15% more effective and you gain the skill tremor sense. Tremor sense is 2x more effective than the normal skill.
I was in awe. He was getting multiple items in one? How was that fair? My item was starting to seem more and more weak as time went on, how was I supposed to compete with this ABSOLUTE garbage!
I huffed, blowing some stray strands of hair out of my face, taking a quick breath to stop myself from getting more jealous. “It’s fine,” I muttered to myself, “I will just show them that the power of healing is far superior to mere items.” I said, scoffing at my jealousy. So what if they had better items? I would just use healing and surpass them! Take that gods!
Minya was the next to show us her new item, it was a silk sack that was red with gold linings and had a string meant to be hung over one shoulder. It looked interesting and I peered at the stats that she had provided us with.
Dimensional Sack of Hermes: Sack, Growth Item(F-Grade): This Sack is made from Elder Silkworms, and is softer than should be possible, it was *Borrowed* from a very rich merchant by Hermes. It is currently very poorly made but still has great effects for an F-Grade Item. This item will grow alongside you but will require the proper resources to advance a grade.
Effect One: This Sack enhances all abilities related to movement, giving all allies a and self a 5% bonus.
Effect Two: This Sack can be consumed to create a portal to the void. The void will emerge from the Sack and attack all beings, allies and enemies alike, however, it will not attack the owner. The void leaves when the owner commands it or there are no more beings left to consume in range. The sack re-appears after 144 hours.
Effect Three: This Sack is made with the intention of carrying as much as possible. This Sack can carry anything that can fit into it, depositing it into a dimensional space of 100,000 square feet. Anything inside is perfectly preserved and is not affected by the happening outside of the bag.
That was… actually really useful. I wasn’t jealous of this one because it would benefit me a lot as well. As I drooled over the thought of all of the things we could now keep with Minya, Plikt pulled out his item from his pocket. A Pearl. He had ended up fighting Hera, saying that she “would give Plikt an interesting fight” It definitely had.
Hera, as a Rainbow Mage, had access to a wide range of spells. Plikt was endlessly peppered with spells of all types, but he powered through with his high constitution and vitality, ending her with a single punch after chasing her all around the arena, he had been in a really bad condition but had survived all of Hera’s endless spells.
He shared the stats with us all.
Pearl of Hera: Pearl, Growth Item(F-Grade): This Pearl is made from an Elder Clam, and is harder than a diamond, it was enhanced even further by the goddess Hera. It is currently very poorly made but still has great effects for an F-Grade Item. This item will grow alongside you but will require the proper resources to advance a grade.
Effect One: This Pearl enhances all abilities related to Defence, giving all allies and self a 5% bonus.
Effect Two: This Pearl can be consumed to enter a state of perfect invulnerability. You will take no damage from ANY sources but you cannot damage any creatures for the duration of the ability. This ability lasts 15 seconds and the Pearl returns after 32 hours. When the ability stops all allies are healed to peak state (cannot replace limb, heal disease or rid curses).
Effect Three: This Pearlis made with the intention of making the wielder a bastion of protection. The wielder has a 30% resistance to physical damage and a 20% resistance to magic damage. All abilities that protect others charge and activate 3x faster than usual and are 1.5x effective (after adding all % bonuses).
I just about died then. Oh of course, they were taking away my only joy in life, Plikt could now heal our ENTIRE party in one move. Welp. At least I would still be useful for restoring arms and getting rid of curses and disease.
I sighed, who was I kidding, I was probably the most expendable person here, I would just have to prove myself somehow else, I decided.
We all exited the chamber and blinked as we got accustomed to the brighter light in the room that held the test of the mind.
In the middle of the room where the riddle slab had been, there was now a giant hole with no stairs or ladder or any other item that could carefully get us down.
Were we supposed to jump?
It couldn’t get any worse than this right?
