I jumped down on the goblin’s back stabbing deep into his back. However since it was so small I crushed him with my weight. Blood spurted out of his back and I rolled when I crashed to the ground.
I spun around, attacking the next goblin in their little war band. Then, I activated my spell. Thunder-step! The world flashed as I zoomed forward in the blink of an eye. I slashed out and hit a goblin in the arm.
It shrieked and tried to stab at me. My dagger mastery skill took over and I parried the attack. “Brock hurry up!” I shouted over my shoulder. “You have to get the hobgoblin!”
“I am! You're just too dang fast!” he called out after me.
I swiped out with my other dagger and took off the goblins head in a spray of blood splattering on my face. “Eww.” I said and wiped the blood off with my sleeve.
“You get used to it!” Brock yelled at me as he sliced the hobgoblin in half in one powerful swing of his ax sending the goblins remains flying.
I looked around not seeing any goblins alive. “Is that all of them?” I asked Brock when he got closer. He glanced around. “I think so. Why didn’t we get the notification?”
Suddenly a goblin, who I had presumed dead, lunged at us. I leaped away but he was still going to hit me! Double Jump! I screamed internally and a platform of lightning briefly appeared under my feet and I leapt off of it. Brock let out a war cry and slammed his ax into the poor goblin. It crumpled to the ground, dead.

Looking at my free stats I mentally willed one into agility just to see what would happen. Then, suddenly I felt quite a bit faster. I don’t really know how to explain it but I just felt like I was changed somehow. With this method I added one to Endurance and one to Vitality. I decided to add one to Intelligence and Wisdom, but kept my other free points until I better understood how the other stats worked.
“I just leveled up, how about you?” I asked the big dude. Like seriously he seemed to be almost 7 ft tall, if that isn’t huge I don’t know what is.
“I leveled up as well, but I can sort of feel like I'm about half-way to the next level. Don’t really know how to describe it, just try it out.” He said looking at a screen I couldn't see.
I tried to copy what he was saying. Just feel it out? Can't be too hard I thought. After a brief moment of concentration I felt it, it was like a bar being filled up with weird energy. “I'm only a quarter there.” I told him.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
He nodded. “Sounds about right, I killed one more goblin than you.”
I glanced over at him. “What did you put your stats into?” I wondered aloud.
“I put it all in strength.” He said nonchalantly.
“Oh? How many body stat points do you get per level?” I asked him, genuinely curious.
He checked his status with a flick of his hand and scanned the information. “5.” He told me.
“You put all 5 into strength? How much strength do you have?!” I was flabbergasted, that seemed like a little much. Then I rethought my approach, nah, it was totally something he would do.
“I currently have 23 strength.” He told me, a little too proud of himself.
I just sighed. “Of course you do.” At this rate weird things were basically a part of my life. “Hey just for reference can you punch that tree for me?” I said pointing.
He looked at me weird but shrugged and walked over the a tree. After pulling his fist back he punched the tree with a roar. The tree started to wiggle and when he punched it there was a shriek as his fist tore a hole into the tree.

We both froze as Brock pulled his hand out covered with blood. He glanced at me. “Did you know there was a goblin in there?” He said looking slightly amused.
“No… I hate goblins so much right now. Are they spying on us?!?” I exclaimed frantically, looking around for any sign of movement.
Brock scratched his head. “I guess? Doesn’t really concern me as long as they don’t attack us.” He shrugged. “If all they're doing is watching our every move and plotting to destroy us, what can go wrong?” He frowned. “Wait, I think I see what you mean.”
“Yeah I don’t like the idea of being watched by those tiny little jerks.” I replied, glancing around.
“Well there's only one thing to do.” Brock said, cracking his neck.

I felt bad for Kent. We had all split up into teams of 2 a few hours ago to find the bosses as quickly as possible. Kent ended up being my buddy. Brock had pulled me aside and told me that he apparently had PTSD so I would need to help him snap out of it if he went into shock again.
I glanced over at him. He was nervously glancing this way and that. He had deep green eyes and pitch black hair. I would've called him handsome if it wasn’t for the expression on his face. Pure terror. We had only been attacked twice but both times he had froze and I had needed to step in to save him.
“Eegal Blargas!” A goblin suddenly pounced on us wielding a thick black club. Kent reacted in pure muscle memory and clocked the dude in the face. The goblin shrieked and fell down as it was so easily countered. Kent followed up with a brutal kick to the side of its skull, killing it instantly.
Kent has slain 1 lvl 3 Club Goblin.
Kent suddenly froze, looking at what he had done. He sat down staring at its dead corpse. “No matter what I do, deep down I'm still a coldblooded killer.” He looked over at me, anguish clear on his face. “Did you see my expression as I killed the goblin?” I had, and it had scared me to be honest.
“I enjoyed every second of it. I was happy as I ruthlessly murdered that creature.” He gestured at the bloody corpse.
“It wasn’t murder,” I told him sitting down next to him. “It attacked you first; it was in self defense.” I felt for him, he was clearly mentally arguing with himself. “And it was a goblin, it wasn't a human.” As soon as I said those words I instantly wished I could take them back.
“You're right,” he said standing up. “It wasn’t human but I've killed humans before I've killed dozens of humans.” He looked back in the direction we were supposed to head back to so we could meet up with everyone else. Suddenly without any hesitation he ran off into the woods. And all I was left with was an image of his face imprinted in my head. Kent's face holding a terrifying expression on his face. Anger.

I realized that I was running way faster than I have ever in my entire life. As I zoomed down the path we had forged for ourselves I only had one thought. What had Kent done?
As I busted through the treeline and arrived at the clearing I found Kent lying on the ground passed out. I rushed over and repeatedly used my healing spell. Heal, heal, HEAL! When he finally reached an acceptable level of health, I felt his pulse. Still alive, still alive. It was my last thought before I passed out from mental, physical and magical exhaustion.
